Judge Juan Merchan scolded lawyer Robert Costello for his behavior during former President Donald Trump’s New York hush money trial.
On Monday afternoon, Merchan cleared out his Manhattan courtroom of jurors, spectators and the press so that he could dress down at Costello, who was there as a key defense witness for Trump, after he made a frustrated comment about the judge’s rulings, according to a court transcript.
The transcript also mentioned that the lawyer commented under his breath and rolled his eyes.
The judge told Costello that his behavior during testimony was “contemptuous.” Costello frequently angered the judge, in part by speaking after objections were sustained.
“Geez,” the lawyer muttered after Merchan sustained several prosecution objections to his testimony.
He also called the whole exercise “ridiculous.”

A Trump campaign official told ABC News that the 18-year-old was “very interested in our nation’s political process.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he is backing the former naval pilot Aaron Dimmock as a primary opponent against his nemesis, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida).
Gaetz is one of the eight Republicans responsible for his being ousted as House speaker.
“Gaetz is the Hunter Biden of the Republican Party,” the ex-House Speaker stated during an interview with Politico. “He’s got an opponent who is pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, trained at Pensacola, went to the Naval Academy and flew jets to defend us while Gaetz was getting kicked out of high school, buying coke and paying minors for sex.”
McCarthy was speaking about the House Ethics Committee investigation, which began in 2021, over allegation the Florida representative had breached sex trafficking laws and had relations with a 17-year-old girl.
Gaetz replied to McCarthy’s support of the ex-naval aviator on the platform X.

Sean Hannity, a well-known Fox News personality, has decided to sell his expansive Long Island property for $13.75 million, just months after he revealed his plans to relocate from New York to Florida.
Hannity announced earlier this year that he would broadcast his popular radio show, The Sean Hannity Show, and his television program, Hannity, from studios in West Palm Beach.
“We are now beginning our first broadcast from my new home, which is in the free state of Florida,” Hannity announced on his iHeartRadio show. “I am out. I am done. I’m finished.”
A limited liability company associated with Hannity purchased the waterfront estate for $8.5 million in 2008.
Located on nearly six acres in Centre Island, approximately 40 miles east of Midtown Manhattan, the property enjoys a prime location. Centre Island has attracted celebrities, such as notable residents like Billy Joel, who listed his property for $49 million last year. Joel’s...

After Hunter Biden’s attorneys threatened to sue Fox News for defamation, the network removed the six-part miniseries, The Trial of Hunter Biden.
Hunter’s attorneys threatened to sue Fox News for violating “revenge” laws and publishing since-debunked bribery accusations as part of a scheme to portray him inaccurately.
The letter, which President Joe Biden’s son’s counsel delivered to Fox News attorneys last week, includes a request for the network to “preserve all documents potentially relevant to the allegations in this letter” – a common precursor to litigation.
“We anticipate that litigation against Fox … is imminent,” the letter read.
Hunter’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, has represented well-known people like Michael Jackson, Chris Brown and Winona Ryder.
Geragos demanded Fox News issue numerous retractions and corrections for reporting on Hunter’s overseas business schemes.

House Republicans are calling for NPR CEO Katherine Maher to appear at a hearing on May 8 following a now former staffer’s allegations of bias in news coverage.
Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-wa), chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee, joined with two other House Republicans in a letter to Maher. “The Committee has concerns about the direction in which NPR may be headed under past and present leadership,” they wrote. “As a taxpayer funded, public radio organization, NPR should focus on fair and objective news reporting that both considers and reflects the views of the larger U.S. population and not just a niche audience.” The hearing would be before the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.

Afroman said it himself in 2022: he needs money… which must be one of the reasons why he’s making a pivot to conservative politics with his new single “Hunter Got High,” a Hunter Biden-themed remix of “Because I Got High.”
Released via Baste Records (a “conservative music company” making its “first venture into political satire” with the single), “Hunter Got High” is, to be frank, lame. Selling itself as letting “everyone know that even Afroman is fed up with the way the Democrats are running the country,” it sees Afroman switch out the lyrics to his 2001 stoner masterpiece with tired references to the younger Biden’s many scandals and conspiracies, which are not only unfunny, but somehow manage to make a catchy tune no longer catchy.

California Judge Mark Scarsi ruled against Hunter Biden’s attempt to dismiss the nine federal tax charges brought against him in California.
On December 7, 2023, Biden was indicted for three felonies and six misdemeanors. They were filed in addition to three federal firearms charges in Delaware, which charged that he lied about his drug use to buy a firearm, which he had for a brief period in 2018.
Federal law forbids gun possession by “habitual drug users.”
Still, a federal appeals court questioned its application as a standalone charge.
Special Counsel David Weiss said Hunter “spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills.”
These charges primarily focus on almost $1.4 million in unpaid taxes that Hunter owed between 2016 and 2019, during which he publicly recognized his struggles with addiction. If convicted, Hunter could face a sentence of up to 17 years.

Ben Rhodes, the former Deputy National Security Adviser to President Barack Obama, has raised concerns about Jared Kushner’s alleged corruption in his $3 billion investment fund, predominantly financed by foreign sources.
Kushner’s firm received a $2 billion investment from a Saudi sovereign wealth fund shortly after he departed from the White House, serving as a senior adviser to his father-in-law, Donald Trump.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Alex Wagner, Rhodes expressed his unease, “This is just putting a price tag on American foreign policy… This is a level of corruption that we’ve just never seen, and it’s hiding in plain sight.”
Earlier in the program, Wagner highlighted that Kushner’s firm had been involved with foreign interests and cited its engagements in hotel developments in Serbia and Albania. Lev Parnas, the former associate of Rudy Giuliani, testified to Congress that he participated in a coordinated effort to accuse President Joe Biden‘s family of corruption. Parnass stated that former President Donald Trump, Giuliani and many GOP politicians and conservative media members helped spread these lies.
Parnas was sentenced in June 2022 for fraud and campaign finance crimes.
On March 21, he gave his testimony at Biden’s impeachment hearing after Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) asked him about when “the campaign to dig up dirt on Biden” turned into “a campaign to spread disinformation and lies about Biden.”

Updated, with additional details from the hearing: The three major news networks largely bypassed live coverage of the latest chapter in a House GOP-led inquiry of whether to impeach President Joe Biden.
That in and of itself was a sign of just how much the effort has been losing steam, even among Republican lawmakers.
The House Oversight hearing, titled “Influence Peddling: Examining Joe Biden’s Abuse of Public Office,” featured Tony Bobulinski a former associate of Hunter Biden. Also testifying, albeit remotely, was Jason Galanis, another associate, who is in an Alabama prison serving a sentence for securities fraud.
Also testifying, as a Democratic witness, was Lev Parnas, a former associate of Rudy Giuliani. Parnas said that Giuliani, in advance of the 2020 presidential election, trafficked in false claims that the Biden’s were involved in a Ukrainian corruption scheme, and that the Russians were behind the disinformation effort.

The Republican impeachment push against President Joe Biden has always rested on the thinnest of evidentiary ice, but with one of their key informants facing criminal charges for lying to federal investigators, the charade is now on the verge of falling apart.
On Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee — one of the three Republican-controlled committees overseeing the Biden impeachment inquiry — held a hearing in an attempt to salvage the effort.
Democrats brought in Lev Parnas, a former Rudy Giuliani crony who was a key figure in the Ukraine scandal that led to Trump’s first impeachment.

In a letter to top executives, Ian Sams, White House spokesman for oversight and investigations, cited Fox News Digital stories on the bribery claims, including ones headlined “The Explosive New Evidence of Biden Family’s Breathtaking Corruption,” labeled an opinion piece from Gregg Jarrett, and “Joe Biden Allegedly Paid $5M By Burisma Executive As Part of Bribery Scheme, According to FBI Document,” a story from Brooke Singman. Other stories reported that the allegations came from a “highly credible” source.

Hunter Biden skewered Republican efforts to impeach his father Wednesday ahead of his closed door testimony before Congress, calling the inquiry a “destructive political charade” and the supposed evidence a “house of cards of lies.”
During opening remarks before the House Judiciary and Oversight & Accountability Committees, the junior Biden denied any malfeasance during his work as a businessman, practicing lawyer, investor and artist.
“For more than a year, your Committees have hunted me in your partisan political pursuit of my dad,” Biden said in a prepared statement released ahead of his testimony.

First Daughter Ashley Biden has finally paid off her $5,000 tax lien after unpaid income tax payments, according to the state of Pennsylvania.
The lien dates back to January 15, 2015, and up to January 1, 2021, just days before Joe Biden had been sworn into office as president. The 42-year-old social worker has since then been keeping it low profile with plastic surgeon husband, Howard Krein.
Biden’s delinquent tax charges amounted to $5,079, and the status has been changed to “satisfaction filed.”
Reporters were tipped off about the recent tax lien by a former Donald Trump White House aide, Garrett Ziegler. Ashley’s half-brother, Hunter Biden, is suing Ziegler for “accessing, tampering with, manipulating, altering, copying and damaging computer data that they do not own,” from Hunter’s laptop.
Hunter was also indicted on nine federal charges relating to his taxes, to which he pleaded not guilty.

As a young aspiring artist of minimal talent, Adolf Hitler had difficulty drawing human figures, according to the professors who rejected his application to Vienna’s fine arts academy. Pay no attention to the discredited informant facing prison time.
GOP officials were scrambling Wednesday after Alexander Smirnov, a key witness in the impeachment proceedings against President Biden, was accused of being informed by Russian intelligence.
Smirnov was arrested last Thursday after Special Counsel David Weiss charged him on suspicion of providing the FBI with fraudulent information. Smirnov, an FBI informant for over a decade, was further discredited after a DOJ report Tuesday indicated he was not only lying to the FBI about Biden, but had “contacts with multiple foreign intelligence agencies.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) moved to force the vote to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) for her mistranslated comments regarding Somalia and Somaliland.
Greene offered her censure legislation on the House floor as a privileged resolution, a procedural gambit forcing leadership to hold a vote within two legislative days.
Leadership was able to bring this resolution to the floor for a vote or motion to table it. These choices require majority support.
Greene said she informed leadership that she was introducing the resolution but did not get an indication of how they would act on it.
On top of being formally censured, this resolution would remove Omar from the Budget Committee and Education the Workforce Committee.
“I would love to expel her; I think she should be deported, I honestly do,” Greene told reporters after moving to force a vote on the censure measure.

Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., is facing a huge backlash after he made a post on social media post that targeted former First Lady Michelle Obama. Shared on Instagram, the post featured a picture of former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Levon Kirkland with the caption, “I found this rare Michelle Obama rookie card.”
He added, “Just a little Super Bowl nostalgia. Lol.”
In a statement to X, independent journalist Aaron Rupard declared that the post displayed “insane levels of racist misogyny.” Comments under the post expressed the same sentiments and labeled the “joke” as “disgusting mean behavior.”
In the post’s caption, Trump Jr. attempted to downplay his intent, and stated, “Deer [sic] fact-checkers I’m told that this is a joke.”

The prosecutor overseeing the Hunter Biden investigation last week indicted a key witness in the GOP’s case against Hunter Biden, Alexander Smirnov, for lying to the FBI. But Rep. Mike Turner, GOP chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, wants the Republican impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden regarding his son’s business dealings to continue to “its natural conclusion,” even though Rep. Jim Jordan recently said that “the most corroborating evidence” against the Bidens stems from Smirnov’s claims.
Turner appeared on Sunday’s Meet the Press where host Kristen Welker asked him about Smirnov.

Exclusive: Comedian, actor and former SNL writer Rob Schneider is set to release his first book. In a competitive situation, Center Street, a division of Hatchette Book Group, will publish Schneider’s You Can Do I! Speak Your Mind, America, on September 24.
The date was deliberately chosen to coincide with the final stage of the 2024 Presidential campaign.
According to the publisher, in the book, Schneider uses humor and stories from his life to offer a searing and hilarious commentary on American culture and the threats to free speech. Taking on current politics in America, he argues that Americans are living under a new kind of tyranny and comments on the new threats to free speech, the fight for medical freedoms, climate change hysteria and, “of course, Hunter Biden,” per Center Street.

For weeks now, Hunter Biden has been sparring with House Oversight Committee Republicans over their demands that he give closed-door testimony in response to a congressional subpoena. Biden has insisted on answering questions in a public setting, instead, which would prevent the GOP from cherry-picking and warping his testimony in their favor.
Committee Chairman James Comer threatened to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress, and on Thursday the president’s son finally agreed to sit for a closed-door deposition, with a public hearing to come at a later date.

In a segment on his primetime show Tuesday, Fox News host Jesse Watters asserted that the mainstream media censored former president Donald Trump’s Iowa victory speech and that it plans more censorship in the future.
Leading Republican presidential contender Trump was conciliatory in his Iowa victory speech — at least as close to it as he ever comes — talking about the “good time together” he had running alongside Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.
“That’s the racist insurrectionist who’s going to Seal Team 6 his enemies? I don’t think so,” Watters added after playing Trump’s comments.
The Fox News host alleged that “mass censorship’s next,” displaying a graphic with Trump’s mouth covered up with red tape and the phrase “Mass censorship campaign.”

Paramount’s “Mean Girls” musical is winning most popular at the domestic box office this weekend. The adaptation of the Broadway adaptation of the beloved 2004 comedy is off to a strong start, coming in ahead of the latest Jason Statham actioner “The Beekeeper.”
“Mean Girls” earned $11.65 million from 3,791 theaters across Friday and preview screenings, tracking to a four-day opening of $31.5 million through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. That’s quite a substantial figure for a musical that was originally commissioned with plans to skip theaters and make a streaming debut directly on Paramount+. The studio changed its tune after test screenings.
From its first trailer, many viewers took notice that the marketing for the “Mean Girls” musical seemed to purposefully exclude song-and-dance numbers. President Joe Biden‘s wife, First Lady Jill Biden, fiercely defended her family against relentless attacks by House Republicans.
She specifically addressed the display of nude photographs of her stepson, Hunter Biden, in congressional hearings. She described these actions as “horrible” and “cruel” and highlighted the cruelty inflicted upon her son.
“I love my son,” Jill told MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski. “It’s hurt my grandchildren. That’s what I’m so concerned about, that it’s affecting their lives as well.”
The first lady’s interview aired shortly after Hunter unexpectedly appeared at a contempt hearing on Capitol Hill, which resulted in chaos when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) displayed lewd photos of him.
House Republicans have relentlessly targeted Hunter and claimed that Biden used his position for personal gain through his son’s business ventures.
The president has consistently denied any involvement in his son’s business affairs.

Mere hours after Donald Trump received the judicial equivalent of a spanking in the courtroom at New York City fraud trial, Biden’s courtroom appearance on the other side of the country had Fnc in a lather.
In the federal courthouse in downtown LA, Biden entered a not-guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarci. The hearing, Biden’s first appearance in the case, lasted about 30 minutes with Trump-appointed judge Scarci making sure Biden was aware a warrant for his arrest could be issued if he failed to comply with any conditions of release like drinking or having a gun.
“Do you understand?” the judge asked.
“I do, your honor,” Biden responded, with his attorneys by his side.

Capitol Hill has been a hot mess all day, starting with the unexpected appearance from Hunter Biden during a House Oversight Committee as the GOP held a hearing on whether to hold him in contempt after declining to show up to a deposition in December.
Amid the turmoil Biden’s visit caused, Democratic congressman Robert Garcia made a case against Donald Trump and channeled The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Heather Gay.
Garcia went viral after a clip of him was shared on social media, where he quoted Gay during a pivotal scene in the show’s Season 4 finale.
“And what do we have as Democrats? We have receipts. Proof. A timeline. Screenshots. We have everything we need to prove conclusively that foreign governments were funneling money through Trump Properties and into Donald Trump’s pockets, all in violation of the Constitution,” Garcia said in the viral clip.

Moviegoers can recover from the holidays with the comfort of knowing Gerard Butler, Liam Neeson, or Jason Statham will be here to satisfy their mid-budget, action-programmer needs. “The Beekeeper” is the best kind of bad movie — which is to say, it’s the sort that puts entertainment ahead of pretentiousness, embracing the laughter sure to accompany such an unapologetically stupid, ultra-violent premise. Starring Jason Statham in what feels like a parody of Jason Statham movies, this conspiracy-fueled action showcase tortures its central metaphor until it can only be seen as a joke, featuring the “Transporter” star as ruthless, retired government assassin-turned-benevolent beekeeper Adam Clay, who’s pushed back into berserker mode after a phishing attack targets the kindly old woman from whom he rents a barn.
If you don’t get a hearty belly laugh out of watching Statham scowl his way through the opening montage, in which Clay is shown collecting honey and tending his hives on a bucolic country estate while landlady Eloise (Phylicia Rashad) falls for a blatantly fishy online scam, then “The Beekeeper” is probably not for you.
