The second season of the Max comedy series “Rap Sh!t” will be its last.
Created by Issa Rae, who also executive produced alongside showrunner Syreeta Singleton, “Rap Sh!t” charted the ascent of Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), estranged high school friends from Miami who reunite to form a rap duo and try to make it big in the music business. The dramedy also starred Jonica Booth (Chastity), Rj Cyler (Lamont) and Daniel Augustin (Maurice).
“I’m so proud of and grateful for Syreeta, our cast, writers and crew that made this show possible,” Rae tells Variety in a statement. “Thanks to Sarah Aubrey and Suzanna Makkos for championing the show, and much love to the fans that tuned in weekly to root for our girls.”
Adds Singleton: “I love this show and I am so proud of the work we’ve done. We created something fun, raw, and original...

As befits its two rising rap artists who are constantly rethinking and remaking themselves in pursuit of success, “Rap Sh!t” Season 2 has a whole new look. The Max series created by Issa Rae and staring Aida Osman and KaMillion as Shawna and Mia spent its first season being as inventive as its characters, emphasizing the reels, FaceTimes, and social media chaos that they leverage to secure interest (if not paydays) from the music industry establishment. Season 2 doesn’t expand so much as explode the visual scope of the series, focusing on Shawna and Mia’s offline lives.
“We’re peeling back the layers, and we’re going deeper and we’re kind of living with these characters in real time a little more,” showrunner Syreeta Singleton told IndieWire. “So I feel like there was a lot of flexibility and freedom to kind of create a new look.”

The process behind “Seduce & Scheme” was heavy on the scheming.
“We snuck in the writers room and the studio when they were having the sessions for the soundtrack. We wasn’t even supposed to be in there!” says KaMillion, who plays Mia in the Issa Rae-created comedy series “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max. The series follows Mia and Shawna (Aida Osman), friends from high school who reunite years down the line and form a rap duo that quickly skyrockets to notoriety — at least on the internet. To create the original songs that Shawna and Mia perform, as well as the soundtrack that pays major homage to the show’s Miami setting, Rae’s music company Raedio held “camps” where different rappers and songwriters came together to collaborate.
This process was headed by Sarah Bromberg and Philippe Pierre, the Raedio vice presidents who served as music supervisors on “Rap Sh!

On July 12, Issa Rae was in the middle of a meeting, largely unaware that Emmy nominations were being announced. Then she received a text from “A Black Lady Sketch Show” creator and star Robin Thede, congratulating her on being nominated for lead actress in a comedy.
“I had a little squeal that I let out in the meeting, and then kept it pushing, but I was happy,” Rae says.
And there was plenty to be happy about. In addition to her solo recognition, “Insecure” nabbed two other noms for editor Nena Erb and cinematographer Ava Berkofsky, plus “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” which Rae executive produces under her Hoorae multimedia banner alongside Thede, earned five nominations.
Despite two previous lead actress noms, Rae admits she was skeptical about being recognized this cycle, given that “Insecure” aired its fifth and final season in December 2021. But there wasn’t a ton of...

Stevie Wonder is married! The legendary musician, 67, tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Tomeeka Robyn Bracy, 42, at the Hotel Bel-Air in La over the weekend. "It was a beautiful wedding," a source tells People. "The ceremony was lavish and very romantic. Family is very important to Stevie, and all of his kids were involved in the wedding." The Grammy winner is father to nine children, including two with Tomeeka. Not only did Stevie share a dance with one of his daughters, but Babyface reportedly sang "Whip Appeal" at the star-studded event. According to The Sun, Pharrell Williams, Usher, and John Legend (who had Stevie sing at his wedding to Chrissy Teigen) also performed during the reception before the groom took to the stage to serenade his wife. This is the third marriage for Stevie, who was wed to Syreeta Wright from 1970 to 1972 and Kai Millard from 2001 to 2012. Congrats to the happy pair!

As a composer, I'm quick to acknowledge the role of music in setting the tone for a horror film, and while theme songs with lyrics and vocals can be just as effective as an instrumental score, there are definitely risks involved: along with clothing and hairstyles, songs tend to anchor a film to the year it was made, and as tastes change, a pop tune can be exposed as a quaint and silly relic of its decade. Then again, some of those tracks were pretty goofy to begin with, and nothing could have saved them. With that said, I love every one of these oddball themes to death (even the truly painful ones), so I'd like to share with you the best of the weirdest, straight from one of my more... uh, let's say “eccentric” party playlists. Let's rock! Fat Boys: “Are You Ready for Freddy?” (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master,...

Iconic singer Stevie Wonder and his wife, Kai Millard Morris, are divorcing after 11 years of marriage, reports TMZ.
According to papers Wonder filed on July 26, Wonder and Morris have been separated since October 2009. The singer cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. Wonder has requested joint custody of the couple's sons, ages 10 and 7, but has agreed to pay Morris spousal and child support.
The amount the couple will otherwise split has yet to be determined. Wonder, of course, amassed the majority of his fortune prior to wedding Morris in 2001.
The marriage to Morris was Wonder's second -- he was previously married to Syreeta Wright from 1970 to 1972.

Was it just the outsider vibe that permeated so many of the scenes tonight, or was this the queerest episode of any series that's ever been on television? I mean, I'm reading this right, aren't I? Santana told Brittany I'm not in love with you, you're just a substitute for Puck, and Brittany's heart was broken, so she tried to use Artie to punish Santana, and Santana went nuts with jealousy?
The final scene with Brittany all alone, pushing the meatball with her nose, and walking around the hall looking so forlorn without her Santana – I cried. Not metaphorical tears – the real thing, with salt and water and a snotty nose.
And Kurt… my god, Kurt. Yes, he's had a bit of inappropriate stuff with Finn last season. It was interesting to see that getting explored. But to see him trying to figure out how to be himself in the world,...

"Glee" brought us another competition -- this time it was "Duets" amongst the team members, competing for dinner for two at Breadsticks. Hilariously, Puck was not eligible because he's in juvie for trying to steal an Atm machine - of course he is.
So which duet did you like best of the competition?
Duets
Rachel and Finn rehearsed "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" by Elton John and Kiki Dee. It was cute, if a bit saccharine. And we don't think they have anything on Lily and Marshall. When Rachel decided they needed to throw the competition, they instead went with "With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright -- while dressed as a priest and a Catholic school girl. Awk. Ward.
Mercedes and Santana wailed on Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High." We mean -- wow. H-o-t. And the Tina Turner signature dance moves were outstanding.

But instead, Wonder opted for a medley of two of his lesser-known classics that are lyrically relevant to Jackson's sudden passing earlier this month: 1971's "Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer" and 1974's "They Won't Go When I Go."
