All the way back in 2004, P!nk was slated to star in a Janis Joplin biopic from director Penelope Spheeris that never saw the light of day. So you can count on Howard Stern to get her reflecting on the contentious matter nearly 20 years later.
The project was tentatively titled “The Gospel According to Janis” and featured a years-in-the-making script co-written by Spheeris (“Wayne’s World”) and Brad Vanderburg. It would have marked P!nk’s screen acting debut in a starring role; when she was cast, Spheeris called it “the most gratifying moment in my film career.” So what happened?
With the gift of hindsight, the Grammy-winning singer in part blamed Hollywood sexism for why the project — and others like it — still hasn’t been made.
“I think that it’s a lot harder to get a biopic done about a female, that’s why we don’t have that many,...

Heading into its 18th year in 2011, the Chicago Underground Film Festival is the longest-running underground film festival in the world. It used to be tied with the New York Underground Film Festival — both were started in 1994 — until Nyuff closed up shop in 2008.
In 1994, the Internet wasn’t the big promotional tool it is today so neither Nyuff nor Cuff that year had a website; or, if they did, those pages have since vanished off the web. So, details about what these fests screened in their first years have been sketchy. Well, until now for Cuff.

The rock n’ roll savvy director of Wayne’s World has been set to head the biopic of hippie songbird Janis Joplin, aptly titled The Gospel According to Janis. The film, co-written by Spheeris and Brad Vanderburg, will focus on Joplin’s life in California until her untimely death at the age of 27 eight years later. The initial buzz around the biopic was pink - Alecia "Pink" Moore that is. The pop-singer was originally slated to play Joplin, an idol of hers, but recently backed out of the production. Stepping in (and perhaps a step up) is Zooey Deschanel, the soon to be household name (the girl has eight films in production not including Gospel). Deschanel, who is set to play
