As surreal as it might seem to newer Star Wars fans, the omnipresent franchise once fell into a decade of relative dormancy until the late-1990s. It was a natural effect, since the Original Trilogy phenomenon played itself out upon 1983’s Return of the Jedi. It was subsequently kept afloat on television, first with two Ewoks live-action TV movies, followed by 1985-1986 Saturday morning cartoons Star Wars: Ewoks and Star Wars: Droids. Interestingly, the latter series took place 15 years before A New Hope, making it the franchise’s forgotten first prequel (revoked canonical status aside), and even featured Boba Fett. Now, this mostly-forgotten era is getting an eye-opening contemporary nod via new, retro-styled Droids toys.

If you find yourself thinking ‘where have I seen that guy before?’ while watching a Mike Flanagan show or film, the answer may well be ‘in another Mike Flanagan show or film’. If one were to devise a formula for box-office-breaking blockbusters, then Red Notice would resemble the hypothetical end product. How else would you describe a frenetic actioner bearing a buddy cop dynamic, headlined by the A-list trifecta of Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, with a budget believed to be in the range of $130 million to $200 million? However, this particular product has been long set to stream exclusively on Netflix, where it will stand as the streamer’s most expensive feature. Now, the release of the Red Notice trailer touts what that exorbitant bill has bought.
The reluctant team of FBI agent John Hartley (Johnson) and infamous art thief Nolan Booth (Reynolds) find themselves mockingly dubbed “work wives” by their alluringly elusive femme-fatale quarry, Sarah Black (Gadot), a.k.a. The Bishop. Having handily humiliated the duo in their initial encounter, Black affirms her current status as the world...

”The power inside you: all over the world there are different names for it. But it’s one thing, One Power, and women who can touch it — we protect the world.” So says Rosamund Pike’s character, Moiraine Damodred, in the first Wheel of Time trailer released by Amazon. Even for those who have never read the Robert Jordan novels upon which the series is based, it’s clear that the powerful women featured in this preview are the ones to be reckoned with.
So why is someone called “the Dark One” pursuing a small group of friends who look much less imposing than the robed women that appear prominently throughout the trailer? Book readers may recognize young Rand Al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), Mat Cauthon (Barney Harris), and Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) looking relatively carefree in the clips in which they appear, but there’s little doubt that their simple...

American Horror Story Season 10 Episode 3
One of my favorite things about American Horror Story has been the fact that if something isn’t particularly working for me, be it a character or a setting, I know that in a few episodes, it’ll be gone. Such is the nature of the seasonal anthology; if something isn’t working for you, check out for ten episodes and when you come back next season, it’ll be something completely different in tone, setting, and content, even if there’ll be members of the cast crossing over and possibly a few references to witches or cults. By putting two ideas together in one short season, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and the rest of the AHS: Double Feature team is taking their anthology idea to a logical extent. There’s a bit about vampires,...

This Star Wars: The Clone Wars article contains spoilers.
“Ambush,” the first episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, opens with a simple question: who is stronger, an army of droids, or a single Jedi Master?
Well, when that Jedi Master is Yoda, fans can be pretty sure of the answer, and “Ambush” delights in that certainty.
The episode is an action-packed, droid-busting romp, with a short interlude for Yoda’s serene Jedi wisdom. It’s an episode unlikely to be accused of being deep. And yet, “Ambush” carefully seeds the paradoxes that will ultimately cause the downfall of the Jedi. How can the peacekeepers of the galaxy be its generals? How can the Jedi stand for the sanctity of individual life while endorsing the use of a bred-for-battle clone army?
The episode opens on the moon of Rugosa orbiting the planet Toydaria, which is remote but strategically significant. Both...

Just last year, The Mandalorian’s unforgettable second season finale provided the post-Original Trilogy version of Luke Skywalker some Star Wars fans have long craved. As he sliced through his Imperial enemies on his way to rescue our heroes, it was apparent that the original Star Wars protagonist’s powers had increased exponentially in the five years since Return of the Jedi. It was a notion that reinforced the belief that Luke is the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy.
But is that really the case?
The impressive live-action debut of animated icon Ahsoka Tano earlier in the season invited a debate on Jedi powers. It’s a topic that was recently reignited, thanks to comments from executive producer Dave Filoni.
The recent premiere of Disney+ documentary series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 2 has proven profoundly revelatory about the technological magic that brought a Return of the Jedi-era Mark Hamill...

Fans who wished for Manifest season 4 had reason to hope that Netflix would rescue their beloved show, but they might wonder why it took so long to finally make the announcement. After all, the show was in the streaming giant’s top 10 list ever since NBC announced its cancelation. But there may have been more to it than simply picking up the series outright or waiting for a Twitter campaign to prove that the audience was still out there.
Obviously, there was a certain amount of negotiation that had to happen behind the scenes between Warner Bros. Television, which produced Manifest for NBC, and Netflix, but the timing of the announcement wasn’t completely coincidental. The show centers on the passengers of Flight 828 who gain powers after their plane jumps forward in time five years, and the renewal was announced on August 28 — 8/28 — a number that was sure to resonate with fans.

Netflix might as well be the San Fernando Valley, since the streaming giant has karate on its algorithmic brain, thanks to escalating hype from hit television acquisition Cobra Kai. Indeed, the series has just nabbed an advance fifth season renewal, arriving on the heels of a status-elevating Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy amongst other nods. The move occurs as the show’s slowly-teased upcoming fourth season heads toward a still-date-less December release window. After recent changes to Netflix’s formerly-spendthrift content-ordering habits, the renewal certainly solidifies the series as one of the streamer’s primary pillars.
Yes, it appears that the high-stakes tournament tussle teased for Cobra Kai’s upcoming fourth season, while inevitably consequential, will not serve as a colossal climax—as some fans speculated—to The Karate Kid television series sequel. Solo: A Star Wars Story has the dubious distinction as the first film in the franchise to truly qualify as a dud. While debate topics over what caused the 2018 spinoff to flop remain wide-ranging, cold hard facts prove that its $392.9 million global gross was anemic—and far below its $500 million break-even—against an inflated $275-300 million budget. However, one of the most prevalent reasons for its failure was the tonal detour that hastily-hired replacement director Ron Howard was tasked with taking, which yielded a logistical nightmare. Indeed, actress Thandiwe Newton reveals how her character, Val, fell victim to said nightmare.
Thandiwe Newton, star of HBO’s Westworld, clearly had high hopes when she joined the Solo: A Star Wars Story cast. After all, it’s a freaking Star Wars movie, and her role as smuggler Val seemed integral to the film’s gang of anti-hero ne’er-do-wells, making her the...

For 1984, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk channeled their inner Sean S. Cunningham in order to craft a campy, funny, bloody ode to classic slasher movies from Friday the 13th to Sleepaway Camp. From the very opening moments of this season, in which a car sweeps down a deserted two-lane highway along a cold, frosty beach, the first half of American Horror Story: Double Feature, dubbed “Red Tide”, evokes nothing more strongly than the works of Stephen King and Joe Hill. It’s hard to do anything related to New England and horror without running into the King family, and rather than attempt to run from the obvious influences, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk lean in and give the people what they want from the very first frames.

This Manifest article contains spoilers.
Manifest is no stranger to unanswered questions. In fact, some might say its main appeal (or its greatest flaw) was the never-ending mystery of why the passengers of Flight 828 experienced prophetic callings after jumping forward five years mid-flight. After three seasons, it seemed viewers might never know the true meaning behind it all, and now with NBC’s cancellation of the sci-fi drama (and Netflix’s refusal to pick it up), it’s an unfortunate certainty that fans will be left in the dark forever.
The Manifest season 3 finale introduced three different attitudes that viewers might have about the news that there would be no season 4. The hardcore fans would probably agree with what Grace told Ben when he despaired in their search for Cal: “Just because we don’t have the answer, it doesn’t mean we stop believing that one exists.” Speculation obviously...

Sucker Punch, Zack Snyder’s sexified 2011 action-fantasy mashup, hit shortly after the director had come off his ambitious (although reliably divisive) movie adaptation of Alan Moore’s groundbreaking Watchmen comic title. With the director having notably made waves behind the camera for 2004’s Dawn of the Dead and 2006’s 300, Snyder’s perceived genre gravitas—and imagery of scantily-clad women with swords and guns—was a clear selling point. While the film flopped, a recent reveal has, curiously, ignited fervor for a Sucker Punch Snyder Cut.
Snyder’s attention at the moment clearly centers on the premiere of Netflix film Army of the Dead, which stands as his first all-new feature since 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, not counting his recently released HBO Max redux of 2017’s Justice League, the original of which saw him replaced by Joss Whedon. However, Snyder provided an intriguing update on the now-decade-old dormant...

The debut trailer for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins wants you to know that the upcoming film is on a new level, as its accompanying rap by A$AP Ferg declares. While the final verdict on that bold claim will be decided once the pandemic-delayed film finally drops in July, the franchise aspirations are quite apparent. Henry Golding’s black-clad ninja commando is complemented by signature characters such as Scarlett and Baroness, and a teased focus on the Hasbro toy property’s other popular ninja character, Storm Shadow.
G.I. Joe’s silent, ass-kicking mascot himself, Snake Eyes, as played by Crazy Rich Asians breakout Henry Golding, takes center stage in director Robert Schwentke’s relaunch of the film franchise adapting Hasbro’s 1980s-launched “A Real American Hero” iteration. It was last represented on the big screen by 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (directed by Stephen Sommers) and 2013’s G.

When reports first surfaced back in early-2018 that Amazon’s untitled The Lord of the Rings television series bore a budget upwards of $1 billion, the entertainment industry and its fans did a collective double-take. Remember, this was two whole years before pandemic-era logistics—and heavy-hitting newcomers like Disney+ and HBO Max—elevated the status of streaming platforms from luxury to essential, and seemed like muscle-flexing by the retail giant to instill fear into the Netflixes and Hulus of the world. While the show’s price tag remains surreal to this day, Amazon Studios’ boss is reaffirming the wisdom of the decision.
Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke participated in a shared interview with some of the industry’s most influential women for THR, in which she fields a key question about the bountiful budget of The Lord of the Rings, which was preemptively renewed for a second season back in 2019. While...

Say what you will about Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but the director’s streaming superhero redux managed to branch the DC Extended Universe movies off into its own tangential timeline, which has since been dubbed the “SnyderVerse” by the fandom that now passionately hashtags for its restoration in the studio’s main continuity. While recent revelations about Snyder’s rough relationship with Warner make this restoration unlikely, the director isn’t entirely shutting the door on such a notion.
We know that Snyder, once the driving creative force behind Warner’s Dceu, was already the odd man out with the studio by the time a personal tragedy incited him to relinquish the director’s chair of 2017’s Justice League to Joss Whedon, but a recent comment from the director has stamped the idea with a powerful punctuation. The just-released debut trailer for sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage will obviously leave fans fawning over the unveiling of Marvel Comics’ crimson symbiote serial killer, Carnage. However, it also happens to tease imagery that could end up becoming a consequential Easter egg for where this film and its 2018 predecessor fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and, thusly, any presumed connection it might have to Spider-Man.
The Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer shows a police detective named Mulligan, played by Stephen Graham, reading a paper that should be instantly recognizable even to those with only casual knowledge of Spider-Man lore: The Daily Bugle, the New York rag of Spider-Man-shading publisher J. Jonah Jameson, who unwittingly employs Spider-Man himself, Peter Parker. While a knee-jerk reaction might declare this image the long-awaited proof of Venom‘s Spider-Man connection, it actually proves the opposite, which might be a sobering revelation for MCU purists.

Wait a minute. Are we somehow half way through the year already? That feels impossible but here comes month number five all the same. With its list of new releases for May 2021, Amazon Prime is highlighting some of its more intriguing original series in awhile.
The first original of note is The Underground Railroad. This series from Barry Jenkins tells the story of one woman’s desperate bid for freedom in the Antebellum South and arrives on May 14. After that comes Solos. This intriguing anthology has one hell of a cast including Anthony Mackie, Dan Stevens, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Constance Wu, and more. The project will premiere on May 21 and each of its seven episodes promises to be quite different.

The Hunger Games franchise is once again set to volunteer as tribute for the big screen, set to take audiences back to the deadly bread and circuses of dystopic Panem with an adaptation of author Suzanne Collins’s upcoming prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Auspiciously enough, the studio is sticking with what worked by bringing back director Francis Lawrence, who handled the majority of the 2012-launched film franchise—Catching Fire (2013), Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015). It appears that the fall release date of The Many Saints of Newark, HBO’s long-anticipated prequel TV movie to its transformative peak television smash, The Sopranos, was born under a bad sign, taking shape during an era in which the film and television industry—and everything else in the civilized world—has been derailed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Consequently, the movie has just met the nowadays-inevitable fate of having its release date shifted back.
The Many Saints of Newark is now scheduled to premiere on HBO on Friday, March 12, 2021. The move represents a nearly six-month shift from its previously scheduled debut on September 25 of this year. Shazam 2 is in the works, as officially revealed by New Line and Warner Bros. However, the 2022-bound sequel to the $364 million worldwide cinematic DC Comics smash could not withstand the Covid-19 pandemic, and will now see its release date significantly altered.

The new date represents a move from its originally announced release date of April 1 for that year, representing a 7-month shift back. At least one of the hosts of the Sci Fi Fidelity podcast grew up with the original version of Amazing Stories back in the 80s, but both remember the hopeful tone of the anthology series. So the question is: does the Apple TV+ version, which still has Steven Spielberg’s name attached to it, live up to the more optimistic vision of the stories we’ve come to expect? As we break down the first two episode of the series, “The Cellar” and “The Heat,” the answer becomes clear that the positive messaging is intact even if the intended audience might skew a bit younger.
We say this because both stories have minor narrative flaws that wouldn’t have bothered us in the least back when the original Amazing Stories aired. Remember, this is the show that had a World War II cartoonist draw landing gear on a crippled bomber!

Quibi, the Jeffrey Katzenberg-backed 2020-launching streaming platform designed for short-form stories, has announced a most intriguing offering amongst its deep backlog, a horror anthology series, titled 50 States of Fright, which has corralled quite the cast and crew, notably with genre legend Sam Raimi–the movie maestro of the Evil Dead cinematic and television franchise and crucial comic book cinema of the Spider-Man Trilogy–tapped to develop and even direct an entry.
Rachel Brosnahan, Travis Fimmel, Christina Ricci, Asa Butterfield, Jacob Batalon, Ming-Na Wen, Taissa Farmiga, John Marshall Jones and Ron Livingston are just some of the names lined up to fill 50 States of Fright’s anthology episodes. With the average runtime of approximately 10 minutes, each episode culls content from American urban legends and folklore.
50 States of Fright will manifest via Gunpowder & Sky’s horror brand, Alter, which will produce with Diga Studios and Pod 3.

This Star Wars: The Clone Wars review contains spoilers.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 7
In 1977, Star Wars established itself as a classic with both high-stakes galactic battles and interpersonal banter. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are a family in the making in their escape from the Death Star, but their banter is also bitter and sharp. Leia commands, Luke hesitates, and Han grumbles, giving a human touch to the cold, metallic setting.
In “Dangerous Debt,” The Clone Wars carries on this tradition gamely. Fun dialogue and a maturing character dynamic make this trio entertaining to watch. But when the last third of the episode essentially undoes all the progress of the first two, it becomes frustrating as well.
Ex-Jedi Ahsoka and sisters Trace and Rafa Martez have been jailed by the Pyke gang and need to escape. Was I the only one who expected this episode...

It may seem like a lifetime ago with the way 2020 is going, but back in January, disturbances felt in the Force regarding the Disney+ Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff series proved accurate after it was temporarily shelved as a search for new scripts commenced. However, it now appears that—in this unlikeliest of times to get good news—the wheels appear to be moving once again, with Disney having found a new visionary scribe for the small screen effort.
Joby Harold has been brought aboard the still-untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series as a writer, according to Variety. A producer from television shows such as Wgn’s Underground and Netflix’s Spinning Out, Harold’s writing credits consist of co-writing director Zack Snyder’s upcoming Netflix zombie movie, Army of the Dead, along with 2017 Guy Ritchie-directed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which was his first since his 2007 written/directorial effort,...

Netflix’s latest cancelations have instigated an armistice for V-Wars and a break-up for October Faction.
The two monster genre television shows, each one an adaptation of an Idw comic book title, have been officially canceled in one fell swoop by the streaming giant, according to THR. The move occurs shortly after Netflix issued a second season renewal for its other Idw adaptation, the formerly-beleaguered Locke & Key. It’s a move that was clearly made in light of a shifting industry schedule landscape ravaged by the coronavirus, leading to more focused priorities for the formerly spendthrift streamer.
V-Wars is arguably the more surprising of the two cancelations, seeing as the sci-fi/horror series—which operated under the purview of showrunners William Laurin and Glenn Davis—was seemingly designed to cater to a built-in fanbase, tapping Ian Somerhalder, former star of The CW’s longtime franchise-spawning hit, The Vampire Diaries, as...

Soul is the (contextually loaded) title of an intriguing new feature from Disney-Pixar. While the project had a long-held hush-hush status, the veil has finally been lifted with the first teaser trailer (seen just below), revealing a life-affirming metaphysical ordeal of a jaded jazz man (Jamie Foxx), who falls down a manhole and becomes a spirit, rediscovering his life priorities.
Pete Docter serves as director for Soul, bringing a breadth of Pixar experience as a writer and director for the aforementioned Monsters Inc. and Inside Out. Thus, the project is in ever-reliable hands with Docter, who’s also serving as a producer, joined in that capacity by Dana Murray, an Oscar-nominated producer for 2017 short Lou, who also worked behind-the-scenes for Disney and Pixar in various duties for Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, Inside Out, Cars 3 and Pixar’s Oscar-winning 2018 short, Bao. Docter directs off a script that he co-wrote with Kemp Powers and Mike Jones.

Australian actor Guy Pearce is known for an eclectic and varied career in which he has rarely played the same kind of role twice. From his days on the iconic Australian series Neighbours (which made him a star there) to his breakout role as a steadfast detective in L.A. Confidential to more recent turns as a monstrous man of the cloth in Brimstone and a mysterious scientist in the Netflix series The Innocents, Pearce has acted his way through a diverse roster of characters over the past 30 years.
Having said that, Pearce does return, sort of, to the world of nanotechnology in Bloodshot. The film stars Vin Diesel as the Valiant Comics superhero who is brought back from the dead and whose powers are fueled by microscopic robots called “nanites” that populate his bloodstream. Pearce plays Dr. Emil Harting, the head of the ultra-high-tech laboratory that has developed the...

Power Rangers actor Ludi Lin is reportedly in talks to join the Mortal Kombat reboot movie to play key character Liu Kang.
Mortal Kombat was the fighting game franchise that distinguished itself as the ostentatiously ultraviolent Chinese grindhouse-inspired alternative to the cartoony quarter-munching of the Street Fighter franchise, notably with its over-the-top characters. However, its de facto main character has been, for the most part, the ascetic and honorable chopsocky Shaolin monk warrior, Liu Kang. Consequently, it’s probably big news that the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot movie has found the actor who will play the crucial (k)ombatant.
Ludi Lin is in negotiations with New Line Cinema to pull off the proverbial fatality of landing the role of Liu Kang in the Mortal Kombat reboot film, reports Variety. While the Chinese-Canadian actor may not yet be a household name, he’s coming off some prominent roles,...

The superhero movie genre is getting Kevin Hart comedy Night Wolf, which comes from the writers of Detective Pikachu.
Night Wolf is joining the seemingly-ceaseless deluge of superhero cinema, with Kevin Hart set to star-in and produce the comedic cinematic genre offering.
STXfilms announced its acquisition of the script to Night Wolf, which is being described as a “high concept comic superhero” offering. The early details of the plot describe a scenario that’s initially akin to Meet the Parents, in which a man (Hart) meets his prospective father-in-law, eventually discovering the secret that he’s the film’s eponymous superhero, the Night Wolf.
The Night Wolf project was pitched by writer Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, a duo who did some work on the screenplay for this past May’s live-action/animated hybrid film, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, as well as television comedy work on episodes of...

While HBO’s The Sopranos prequel movie will see Michael Gandolfini in his father’s role, he never actually watched the show until now.
The Sopranos mythos returns to HBO next year with TV movie The Many Saints of Newark – a welcome offering on many levels, one of which is the heartwarming handoff of the late James Gandolfini’s role as Tony Soprano to his son, Michael Gandolfini, who plays a teenage version of Tony in the 1960s-set story. However, it seems that the acceptance of said role was made after some reluctance, not only because of the responsibility of filling Tony’s leather loafers, but because – up until this process – he’d never even seen the show.
The confession of the twenty-year-old Gandolfini of his unfamiliarity with his father’s bellwether six-season-spanning 21-Emmy-earning character-driven mob series platform came about in an interview with Esquire, which focuses...

Actress Amanda Seyfried claims she turned down an offer to play Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, and explains why.
Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gamora may be in an unusual state in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the events of Avengers: Endgame, but it seems that the character, played by Zoe Saldana, could have been a lot different, since actress Amanda Seyfried has (strongly) implied that she was initially offered the role, only to turn it down.
Seyfried made the rather intriguing revelation in a video interview with MTV promoting her recently-released co-starring dog dramedy film, The Art of Racing in the Rain, revealing that she rejected an offer to field a role that, while never-named, was obviously Gamora. When posed with the question if she would take a superhero movie, Seyfried explains somewhat cryptically:

Netflix astronaut series Away will star Hilary Swank as the commander of an international space crew, sent on a dangerous mission.
Away, a developing Netflix series, will head to space for a monumental mission with a commander played by two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and television veteran Josh Charles.
Set as a 10-episode series, Away will be driven by showrunner Jessica Goldberg, who’s known as the creator of Hulu’s subversive 2016-2018 drama, The Path, and wrote the script to directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2020-scheduled, Tom Holland-headlined drama, Cherry. The series is said to be loosely inspired by an article published in Esquire about the real-life mission of astronaut Scott Kelly.
The official logline for Away describes a show that “centers on Emma Green [played by Swank], an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous mission.

Suicide Squad director David Ayer is in talks to direct WWII thriller El-Alamein, named after the crucial battle in Egypt.
David Ayer, perhaps best known as the director of 2016 DC movie Suicide Squad, is returning to the genre of World War II tank battle epics, which he famously fielded as writer/director of the 2014 Brad Pitt-headlined Fury. With that WWII tank movie covering the War’s European Theater, he’s now eyeing an adaptation of a key skirmish in the Mediterranean, African and Middle East Theater, with a film titled El-Alamein.
Lionsgate is in talks with Ayer to direct El-Alamein, reports Deadline. The war drama will center on the 1942 WWII tanks-teeming battle in the Egyptian coastal town, just 150 miles west of Cairo. The script has already undergone rewrites, with the first draft, by David Self, recently getting turned over to James Coyne. With Ayer’s tendency...

Garfield is getting ready to ravenously devour lasagna and malign Mondays as part of Nickelodeon. That’s because Viacom Inc., the channel’s corporate parent, has acquired property owner Paws, Inc., making it officially part of the Nick stable.
The announced acquisition of the Garfield intellectual property and its placement with Nickelodeon is part of its ongoing – and self-confessed – strategy to maintain its status as “the home for the biggest franchises kids and families love.” Indeed, the famous feline will join kid’s show icons like SpongeBob SquarePants (a property set for expansion with a spinoff and another movie), Paw Patrol, upcoming revival Blue’s Clues and You! and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (a property acquired in similar grandiosity back in October 2009). Additionally, it will join an all-new animated Star Trek series.

Netflix has canceled the mind-bending, dimension-crossing drama, The Oa, after a two-season run.
The Oa's Season 3 prospects are Doa – at least they are on Netflix, which has just canceled the series after two seasons, leaving it with a 16-episode legacy.
Netflix’s cancelation of The Oa occurs nearly five months after the March 22, 2019 premiere of its second season; a long-awaited frame by fans, who had been waiting since the December 16, 2016 debut of the initial season. Indeed, while the series – the unique creation of its star, Brit Marling, and Zal Batmanglij – never quite enjoyed the Netflix pop culture pageantry of Stranger Things, it has built itself a cult following, based on its unconventional approach to seemingly conventional dramatic tropes, specifically when it comes to mysteries centered on amnesiac protagonists.

SpongeBob SquarePants Season 13 is officially set at Nickelodeon.
Sure, the SpongeBob SquarePants renewal is not the most surprising news ever delivered, seeing as the venerable undersea cartoon series is currently in the midst of a pop culture bacchanal of media exposure, with a year-long celebration of the franchise’s 1999 inception set to manifest with major – 1,800 square-feet-spanning – interactive plans at Comic-Con this week. Indeed, the event heralds an imminent multimedium blitz that includes a spinoff series, a prequel series and a third feature film, The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, set for next year. It's certainly a bittersweet high for the franchise after creator Stephen Hillenburg's passing last November.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan will be released from his cage in The Walking Dead Season 10, as showrunner Angela Kang confirms.
The Walking Dead has had some audacious villains throughout its nine-going-on-ten seasons on AMC, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan is exceptional in his depiction as an irredeemable tyrant and wanton murderer. However, upon the defeat of his post-apocalyptic extortionists, the Saviors, Rick Grimes – edified by a dying decree from son Carl – opted to forgo his previously-promised execution of Negan for a lifetime of imprisonment in Alexandria. Yet, Season 9 showed the beginning of a redemption arc for the former barbed-wire-bat-swinging baddie; an arc that is confirmed to evolve in Season 10.
Negan’s days behind bars are set to come to an end in Season 10, as The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang reveals in an interview with EW. Of course, this idea may not come as the...

Emma Stone could headline La La Land director Damien Chazelle’s new movie, Babylon.
Babylon, the developing would-be film from Oscar-winning La La Land director Damien Chazelle, is already making plenty of industry waves as he currently considers would-be studios for the project. Moreover, the project’s value has just increased significantly with the latest report, which indicates that the film could facilitate a reunion between the director and the co-star of his Oscar-earning effort in Emma Stone. Additionally, a subsequent update reveals that Brad Pitt is also in the mix.
With La La Land distributor Lionsgate reportedly a front-runner for Chazelle’s next written/directorial turn, Babylon, it appears that Emma Stone – whose performance in the former earned a Best Lead Actress Oscar win in 2017 – is circling the starring role in the new film, leading what will become a large ensemble of high-profile names, according to Deadline.

While Black Mirror’s “Striking Vipers” used gamer culture to explore sexual fluidity, its idea was spawned from unlikely sources.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Black Mirror Season 5 episode, “Striking Vipers.”
Black Mirror Season 5 came out of the gate with an intriguing twist on what society conventionally considers romance, using – of all things – the prop of gamer culture, specifically a fictionalized Mortal Kombat evoking fighting game. While the episode of the Netflix series, written by creator Charlie Brooker, can be analyzed and/or interpreted through several different lenses, it seems that the inspiration for the story came from the fictional, late-1950s song-strewn halls of Rydell High School. – Stay with us on this one!
- Episode spoilers below -
In “Striking Vipers,” two friends, Danny (Anthony Mackie) and Karl (Yayha Abdul Mateen II), indulge youthful memories by playing an updated – shockingly realistic – Vr-immersive version of the fighting...

Maybe it’s just trepidation about what happens with remakes and reboots, but seeing the Candyman remade seems almost sacrilegious from a horror standpoint. In case you hadn’t heard, Joseph Baxter from Den of Geek! has stated that Jordan Peele, who is supposedly taking the lead in bringing the villainous specter back to life, has tapped Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to play the dreaded, hook-handed baddie. If you’re wondering who Yahya is then just know he was the younger Black Manta in the recent Aquaman movie, though he’s been featured in other movies as well, so he is a known actor. Jordan

Despite being touted as an impressive streaming performer, Sneaky Pete has been given the axe from Amazon.
Sneaky Pete was unable to grift itself another season on Amazon Prime Video, which has canceled the series.
The series, the co-creation of Bryan Cranston and David Shore, launched on the streaming platform on August 7, 2015. It starred Giovanni Ribisi as Marius Josipovic, a smart, seedy con man who, initially upon his release from prison, dodges a debt to a dangerous gangster (Cranston) by posing as his cellmate, Pete Murphy, using all the stories he’s been told to ingratiate himself to the Bernhardts, Pete’s long-estranged Connecticut-based family, who run a bail bonds business. However, as we witness over the course of three seasons, Marius/Pete instinctually grifts his way out of problems; a practice that’s usually successful, but tends to spawn more problems and compounds others.

The underwater exploits of SpongeBob’s summer camp childhood exploits will be the focus of a new Nickelodeon prequel series.
SpongeBob SquarePants has plenty of projects – a year-long birthday bash, a special featuring the voice cast in live-action form, another movie and even prospective spinoff shows – on his franchise backlog during the porous Pollyannaish pineapple-dweller’s 20th anniversary. However, Nickelodeon has another entry to offer, a prequel series set to focus on a 10-year-old version of the character during a stay at summer sleepaway camp.
Tentatively titled Kamp Koral, Nickelodeon has officially greenlit the young-Sponge-Bob prequel series for a 13-episode run, reports Deadline. Unlike the mothership show, the prequel will manifest as a CGI-concocted series, though will remain 2D. According to the description, the prequel will focus on SpongeBob’s stay at “the craziest camp in the kelp forest,” Kamp Koral, where he’ll spend the summer “building underwater campfires,...
