A League of Their Own is officially wrapping up.
Weeks after reports emerged indicating a four-episode wrap-up was on the horizon, Prime Video has made it official.
The second season is being billed as a "four-episode limited series."
"Making this show and seeing the impact it has had in the world has been an incredible joy," co-creators Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson said in a statement. "
"While obviously we were hoping for 11 seasons, we're grateful to be able to continue to tell the story of these characters and this world."
"We're deeply proud of the work that Abbi, Will, the cast and crew have done reimagining A League of Their Own which has produced an incredibly loyal fanbase as well as achieved numerous, well-deserved recognitions and accolades," added Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios.

“A League of Their Own” fans are not happy with the shortened second season renewal news that leaked earlier this week.
On Thursday afternoon, a plane chartered by fans flew over The Culver Studios, Amazon Prime Video’s headquarters in Culver City, towing a banner that reads “Renew A League of Their Own #MoreThanFour” with the hashtag describing the potential four episodes the final season would have.

News of the show’s renewal for a second season — comprised of four episodes — broke Tuesday.
The show is a television version of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film that delves deeper into the aspects of race, sexual orientation and gender identity for female baseball players trying out for the All American Girls Professional Baseball League when the men were sent overseas to fight in World War II.

The Rockford Peaches are set to return to Amazon Prime Video one last time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, A League of Their Own is returning to the streaming service for a second and final season.
And it will be short.
The outlet alleges that A League of Their Own Season 2 will comprise just four episodes.
Amazon has not confirmed the renewal, but THR notes that deals are still being worked out.
As a result, we should expect a formal pickup when the deals are completed.
The road to renewal was reportedly complicated by renegotiations with Sony to lower the drama's licensing fee.
The cast also had to sign new deals because the season will be comprised of half the episodes of A League of Their Own Season 1.
While Amazon has not announced the pickup, it is set to be billed as a "limited series."

Johnny Cash performed several country music songs that are enduring classics and crossed over to the mainstream. He didn’t write all his hits, and “Folsom Prison Blues” set his bank account back 75,000 after a plagiarism lawsuit, but that doesn’t change the fact The Man in Black remains a country legend because of his tunes. One of Cash’s signature songs, “Ring of Fire,” comes with a twisting and sordid story that is song-worthy itself.

Aside from Cash’s deep-throated baritone, “A Boy Named Sue” and “Ring of Fire” don’t have all that much in common. The former is a relatively simple country-folk storytelling narrative. The latter is a genre-bending country-latin tune whose mariachi horns might be the highlight.

Molly Ephraim rounds the bases in Prime Video’s small screen adaptation of “A League of Their Own” as both an important outfielder as well as a crucial comedic actress on the team of women who find themselves bonded by their first season in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball Team on the Rockford Peaches.
“When I auditioned, I think the breakdown said like, ‘the spunkiest person you’ll ever meet,’ and there was an audition scene with her just hysterically laughing,” Ephraim said in an interview with TheWrap. “I was like, ‘I can do that. That’s in my wheelhouse.’ A loud, insane laugh.”
Ephraim plays Maybelle Fox, a spunky blonde single woman who often pumps the team up with her energy and sass.

The new Prime Video series “A League of Their Own” acknowledges Penny Marshall’s 1992 hit film of the same name while deepening the story. While Marshall’s movie very much tackled misogynistic attitudes towards women playing baseball, it didn’t have the scope of diversity that the new series establishes, especially when it comes to exploring issues related to race and sexual orientation with the All American Girls Professional Baseball League players.
Like the 1992 film, the series explores the foundation of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aaggpbl), but it dives into more of the individual stories of players who come from minority backgrounds. Starring Abbi Jacobson as Carson Shaw and Chanté Adams as Max Chapman, the show weaves the two narratives of these characters together in a complex story that’s fun yet surprisingly intimate.

We're helping you to prepare for A League of Their Own, premiering on Amazon on Friday, August 12.
The full first season will be available for your binge-watching pleasure, and we had the chance to meet with the cast and creatives to explore what's ahead.
We hope you enjoy the full interviews below!
Abbi Jacobson (Creator/Carson Shaw) & Chanté Adams (Max Chapman)
Abbi Jacobson worked with Will Graham to create the magic that's revisited in A League of Their Own. She's also one of the stars of the show as Carson Shaw, allowing her a dual perspective.
Chanté is playing Max, which is a role the likes of which wasn't fleshed out in the film. Showing the difficulties of a black woman trying to break into sports offers her a wonderful arc.
Abbi also talks about how A League of Their Own is about women discovering and enjoying their sexuality against...

Sexism, racism and infuriating dress codes are no match for the Rockford Peaches’ tenacity, as seen in a new trailer for Prime Video’s A League of Their Own series.
Adapted from the 1992 film of the same name, A League of Their Own follows the women who formed their own professional baseball league while the nation’s men were fighting in World War II. Per the official logline, the series will take “a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths toward the field, both in...

Rosie O’Donnell is returning to “A League of Their Own” — this time, to cheer on the Rockford Peaches from afar.
The actor, who portrayed third base player Doris Murphy in the 1992 film, will have a role in the upcoming Prime Video series, albeit not the same one as her character from the movie. O’Donnell will play a local bar owner named Vi.
A fan of the Rockford Peaches, Vi crosses paths with Abbi Jacobson’s catcher Carson and soon welcomes her into her orbit.
The series is described as evoking “the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in...

There may be no crying in baseball, but there were tears all throughout the world premiere of Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own.”
Co-created and executive-produced by Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”) and Will Graham (“Mozart in the Jungle”), “A League of Their Own” debuted at Tribeca 2022 on June 13. The TV reimagining of Penny Marshall’s beloved 1992 film of the same name was a “labor of love that has taken most of our adult lives,” Jacobson joked while introducing the pilot episode, which premieres on Prime Video August 12.
“We had a chance to talk to Penny before she passed away,” Graham explained. “She told us these stories changed her life and it will for you too. As much as we love the movie, it’s really the stories underneath it, including the ones of queer women, of women of color, those ones that didn’t make it into the 1992 film.
