Robin Godfrey-Cass's diverse experience in the music industry has spanned over 30 years. In 1984, he was appointed Warner/Chappell Music UK's Managing Director, making history as the youngest ever appointed MD for a major publisher dominating that period with being the No.1 music publisher in the UK. During his leadership Robin was responsible for the worldwide signings of Eric Clapton, Michael Bolton, Howard Jones, Whitesnake, Bush and Radiohead, among many others. Promoted in 1990 to Senior Vice President (Europe), and in addition to his MD duties, Robin coordinated European Acquisitions for Warner/Chappell. During this time Robin was responsible for the iconic signings of Genesis and Sting to worldwide publishing deals. During his reign as MD, Warner/Chappell Music was the number one music publisher in the UK.
In 1995, Robin was recruited to run the West Coast operations of EMI Music Publishing in the US, where he signed successful acts, including The Presidents of the United States of America, Bonnie Raitt, Lit and Dishwalla. Returning to the UK in 1998 Robin founded Riverhorse, a joint-venture record label with Sony Music. Three out of the five records released by the label, attained Top 10 status, selling over 10 million copies worldwide.
Robin was recruited to advise on a number of private equity "start-up" vehicles in 2004 and joined the teams behind each of these to act as the source for acquiring grade-A music catalogues. Impressed with the caliber of catalogues and artists Robin brought to the table, he was then invited by the investors of one such company to set up a brand-new entity, Crosstown Songs covering the UK and the US.
Robin successfully nurtured and ran Crosstown for 3 years prior to the company's sale to BMG Rights. He was instrumental in acquiring the catalogues of Deston, Murlyn, John Reid, Palan, Neil Thrasher and many others; He then launched Crosstown Nashville with Dann Huff. Under Robin's guidance, Crosstown became one of the most successful "mini-major" publishing companies.
From 2009 to 2017, Robin was involved in many acquisitions of publishing catalogues, helping the new company start-ups reach critical mass. His own co-founded company, Perfect Storm, has had huge success with Stronger" performed by Kelly Clarkson. Most recently he enjoyed international success with the global No.1 hits by DJ Snake feat. Justin Bieber and Kygo featuring Selena Gomez. Robin sold Perfect Storm which included his No.1 international songwriter, Ali Tamposi to Reservoir Publishing. This led to Universal Music Publishing Group entering into a major joint venture in 2016 with him.
Robin has had a remarkable career and continues to be at the forefront of the current music success stories around the world. In 2018 he was asked to head up the Round Hill Carlin UK operation, as Managing Director. Robin is at the forefront of acquisitions and creative signings. His contact list and his ability to find the most talented writers and underperforming companies is legendary and he is an aspiration within the industry.
