is full of moments that stay with you. Think of Joe Exotic parading self-branded condoms to promote his presidential campaign or Tim Stark dressing his golf balls in a bandana and hat to resemble Jeff Lowe. But one particular sequence lingers in the mind — and it’s no laughing matter.
In one scene, the Gw Zoo team attempts to prise a newborn tiger cub away from its mother mere seconds after it has entered the world. A long metal claw enters the enclosure to grab and drag the baby away across the dusty floor and through a tiny gap in the cage. They hold it aloft like a gold trophy. The screams of the cub, meanwhile, are heartbreaking as it cries for its absent mother. Our feelings of unease are compounded by Joe Exotic complaining about the noise.

The US House of Representatives has passed the Big Cat Public Safety Act, a first step in establishing a national policy to stop the trade and breeding of endangered lions and tigers as pets in homes and props at roadside zoos.
The bill overwhelmingly passed Friday by a vote of 278 to 134. The measure was introduced by Reps. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and actively supported on the floor by Reps. Ed Case, D-Hawaii, and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz.
But one of its most prominent supporters was Carole Baskin, founder of Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida, and a prominent part of the television series TIger King, which put the issue of private ownership of tigers and lions on the American radar screen. NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock TV, also featured the bill in its series Joe vs. Carole, released in March.

When Netflix executives scheduled the release of a seven-part docuseries on the wild world of private exotic animal zoos (or, more accurately, the people who run them) to debut on March 20, 2020, little did they know that they were contributing to what would become a cultural phenomenon. Of course, with a title like Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness it was bound to find an audience, but thanks to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting stay-at-home orders, that audience was massive, bored, scared, and looking for a distraction.

Last March, as pandemic stay-at-home orders forced us into our houses, one show seemed to unite the country: Netflix’s “Tiger King.” The story of zoo owner Joe Exotic and the murder-for-hire plot against fellow tiger enthusiast Carole Baskin was always going to be something that captured people’s attention — Joe’s aesthetic alone! — but this went beyond that. It became something people loved, reviled, hate-watched, and called a guilty pleasure in equal measure. But was it ever meant to be more than a one-off phenom? “Tiger King 2,” which Netflix is technically calling the second season to the first “Tiger King” run, definitively says the answer is no.
Calling this season a docuseries is a stretch, as the five episodes feel like a hodgepodge of ideas in search of a story to tell. Joe Exotic, once the focal point of the show, is now merely a tangential connection for...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Tiger King 2” on Netflix.
It has been a year and a half since “Tiger King” mania took over the newly-locked down world, and now Netflix is hoping to recapture that magic with “Tiger King 2.” This time around, though, the focus is much heavier on Carole Baskin and her missing former husband, Don Lewis.
The original docuseries — centering on a feud between big cat zoo owners and the tumultuous personal life and fame seeking of Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Passage — first premiered on Netflix in March 2020, right when the Covid-19 pandemic was forcing people inside. A content consumption frenzy ensued, leading to directors Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode filming enough additional footage to fill five more episodes.
There were several questions lingering at the end of “Tiger King” — most obviously, “Was Joe Exotic framed and will he get out of jail?...

Netflix has released a dramatic first trailer for “Tiger King 2,” the sequel to the larger-than-life documentary series that got everyone through the first isolating weeks of the pandemic. Full of suspense and outlandish characters, “Tiger King” immediately captured viewers’ attention worldwide. Now the saga continues with Joe Exotic behind bars, and not the kind you keep a big cat in. Set to Liza Minnelli singing “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret,” the trailer below teases plenty of drama and intrigue to come.
Here’s the official synopsis, per Netflix: “With Joe Exotic behind bars and Carole Baskin closing in on ownership of his disreputable zoo, the Emmy-nominated saga continues its twisted course with ‘Tiger King 2’ as newfound revelations emerge on the motivations, backstories, and secrets of America’s most notorious big cat owners. Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder,...

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, it's time to strap in for another royally wild ride: Tiger King is back. Joe Exotic pleads his case from behind bars in Tiger King 2, premiering Thursday, Nov. 17, on Netflix. "There's an innocent man in prison," Joe says in the shocking trailer. "Everybody from the zoo is out there making money, and I'm paying the price for every one of them people." Turns out, he's right, at least partly: Zoo owner Jeff Lowe confirms that the series "changed our lives overnight," leading him to make "more money than God." Yet, everything comes with a price. Season one of Tiger King...

With Liza Minnelli’s old Cabaret anthem of optimism playing in the background (“Maybe this time I’ll win!”), the trailer for Netflix’s Tiger King 2 documentary sequel series promises all the drama, backstabbing and just plain weirdness that caught viewers’ attention the first time around.
The new series, premiering Nov. 17, is described by Netflix like this: With Joe Exotic behind bars and Carole Baskin closing in on ownership of his disreputable zoo, the Emmy-nominated saga continues its twisted course with Tiger King 2 as newfound revelations emerge on the motivations, backstories, and secrets of America’s most notorious big cat owners. Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder, mayhem, and madness. Thought you knew the whole story? Just you wait.

Tiger King 2 looks to be more bonkers than its predecessor.
Netflix on Wednesday dropped a full-length trailer for the forthcoming follow-up, and it looks pretty crazy.
“When you thought you’ve seen it all, you haven’t quite seen it all,” the clip teases.
“We have more money than God right now,” Jeff Lowe, who took over Joe’s zoo when he went to prison, says in the clip.
Joe is still incarcerated and unimpressed about everyone on the outside making a lot of money on the success of the original series.
At one point, he vows to make a deal with the devil, likely to get out of the big house.
The clip even touches upon the demands for Donald Trump to pardon him.

A new trailer for Netflix’s Tiger King 2 suggests that 1) this follow-up is a round-up of mostly leftover Season 1 footage, 2) it will barely involve the imprisoned Joe Exotic, and 3) the rivalry with Carole Baskin will be revisited even though she very publicly distanced herself from the franchise.
Season 1, which was released early in the pandemic to a captive audience, tracked the rivalry between big cat “enthusiasts” Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel and Baskin. The feud took a dark turn when Schreibvogel — a mulleted, gun-toting polygamist, country singer and former gubernatorial candidate who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo — was arrested for...

If you thought the world of “Tiger King” and Joe Exotic couldn’t get any kookier, think again. “Tiger King 2” will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 17, the streamer announced Saturday during its aptly-named global fan event Tudum, and it is promising “more madness and mayhem.”
Netflix released a video announcing the date for “Tiger King 2,” which mostly featured footage from the first series. A previous teaser showed an interview with Exotic in jail, and the follow-up promises more looks at the cast of characters, like Carole Baskin, Jeff Lowe and more, since the original show launched and took the world by storm.
The original docuseries, which captivated millions of Netflix users in the early days of Covid-19 lockdowns, picks up sometime after Exotic is imprisoned at Federal Medical Centre Fort Worth, where he is currently serving a 22-year sentence for attempting a murder-for-hire plot aimed at Baskin, plus 17 convictions for violations of animal abuse.

Did you really think the story was over? Netflix isn’t leaving fans of their hit docuseries Tiger King hanging as the streamer unveiled Tiger King 2 will arrive sometime later this year. Around 18 months after the original series debuted on the platform and took streaming by storm, this new chapter is being teased in a video teaser that’s promoting several of Netflix’s upcoming true crime documentaries. After having attracted 64 million households in its first four weeks after the March 2020 premiere, Tiger King is gearing up for more madness and mayhem. (Credit: Netflix) In the brief clips featuring the next chapter, viewers get a peek at some familiar faces including Big Cat Rescue’s Carole Baskin, Jeff Lowe, and his wife Lauren who took ownership of The Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, as well as Joe Exotic who is captured on camera from prison. Nicolas Cage will not be playing Joe Exotic.
The beloved actor was set to lead an Amazon drama series based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild.”
But it sounds like the Tiger King craze is coming to a close with a thud.
“I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together,” Cage said to Variety of the decision.

Peacock’s “Joe Exotic” series had to get a bit exotic in its casting process to fit the real-life troupe of characters chronicled in Netflix’s “Tiger King” docuseries. Fortunately, with “Saturday Night Live” standout Kate McKinnon on board from Day 1 as Carole Baskin, the scripted streaming series was off to a very good start.
Then they landed Dennis Quaid, and, well, just ask your mom what she thinks about that choice to play Rick Kirkham. Better yet, ask Rick Kirkham, Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel’s reality TV show producer, what he thinks. However, Quaid had to step away from the role due to a scheduling conflict and was replaced with William Fichtner.
Based on the Wondery podcast “Joe Exotic,” hosted and reported by Robert Moor, the Peacock limited series will center on Carole Baskin, a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit.

“Tiger King” star Jeff Lowe and his wife, Lauren, were both arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this weekend.
Just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, a police officer saw a white Range Rover drive over a parking lot curb and enter the street at a high rate of speed, according to The Oklahoman. The car then stopped abruptly when it noticed the cop nearby, according to the police report, before a woman, Lauren Lowe, opened the door and called for help “in a slurred speech.”
After she exited the driver’s side of the vehicle, along with two others who jumped out of the car, Jeff Lowe then moved over from the passenger’s seat and drove “a short distance” before making a lane change without signaling and heading into a parking lot, according to police. Officers noticed “a strong odor commonly associated with...

PETA has “confiscated” three one-year-old lions from Jeff Lowe’s “Tiger King” zoo, which was recently closed. The Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park (G.W. Park) ended up in Lowe’s hands following Joe Exotic’s arrest for hiring a hitman to kill Carole Basin.
Yeah, it’s all bananas. Check out “Tiger King” on Netflix if none of those words check out in your rational brain.
The lion confiscation comes as part of PETA’s successful Endangered Species Act lawsuit against Lowe’s former business partner Tim Stark, who transferred the lions to Lowe, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said in a media announcement.
A court order granting the confiscation was issued on September 15.
A fourth lion had been transferred from Stark to Lowe, the group says, “but PETA recently learned that she died under suspicious circumstances, allegedly in August,” it continued. “The group is investigating her death.

The cultural phenomenon surrounding “Tiger King” has renewed the conversation around animal abuse in media. And one bill making its way through the California state legislature has led to an unexpected conflict between PETA and the Motion Picture Association.

When directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin began collaborating on a documentary series about the strange world of exotic animal breeders, they thought it might generate modest attention.
“We were certainly fascinated by it,” Chaiklin recalls. “But we sort of thought it was our own little story that maybe a few people would be interested in.”
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness wound up attracting not just a “few people”, but a stampede after it dropped on Netflix in March. And when the Emmy nominations were announced, Tiger King snared half a dozen of them, the most of any documentary.

Yesterday, it seemed like the already bizarre tale of Joe Exotic, the star of Netflix’s hit documentary Tiger King was about to take a macabre twist. TMZ reported that cadaver dogs were combing the zoo and that they’d zeroed in on potential human remains in the alligator pit. The internet promptly went wild, assuming that some unfortunate enemy of Joe Exotic had been fed to the gators.
Then, sheriffs dug up the pit to discover bones that appeared to be “the skeleton of a small animal with a tail.” Well, that’s an anticlimax for true crime fans, but at least nobody had actually been fed to alligators at the farm. Still, there are human remains on site, as Joe Exotic revealed that four people asked to have their ashes scattered on the property as a memorial.
Even beyond that, there may something spookier going on in Wynnewood.
