Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy moved many last week when he concluded his 15-hour gun-control filibuster with an emotional tribute to 6-year-old Dylan Hockley, who was found in the arms of his teacher, Anne Marie Murphy, after they were both killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. No one was more touched than Dylan's mother, Nicole Hockley, who tells People that although she's spoken with the senator several times over the years about her son's tragic story, she was surprised when Murphy chose to share it on the Senate floor last Wednesday, in a call to action motivated in part...

Erica Lafferty and Carlee Soto first remember seeing each other at the Newtown firehouse on Dec. 14, awaiting word of their relatives' fate. Earlier that morning, Erica's mom, Sandy Hook school principal Dawn Hochsprung, 47, had rushed out of a meeting when she heard gunshots. As she ran toward the shooter, Adam Lanza, he gunned her down. He then burst into Vicki Soto's first-grade class, just moments after she had herded a group of children into a closet. Lanza shot the 27-year-old teacher, her aide, Anne Marie Murphy, and the five children Soto and Murphy tried to shield. "Someone so close to...

Anne Marie Murphy, the Sandy Hook Elementary School teacher who died trying to protect precious Dylan Hockley, 6, with her body, was compared to Jesus as she was laid to rest on Dec. 20. So incredibly sad. When Adam Lanza began his horrific attack on the Sandy Hook Elementary School campus on Dec. 14, many teachers sprung into action, with a singular mission to protect the young ones in their care. One such teacher was Anne Marie Murphy, a special education teacher who died while trying to shield her students from bullets. On Dec. 20, Anne Marie was laid to rest in Kotonah, NY. Anne Marie, a 52-year-old mother of four, was mourned at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Kotonah. Cardinal Timothy Dolan compared the teacher to Jesus, praising her for her bravery and compassion. "Like Jesus, Annie laid down her life for her friends," the Cardinal said. Anne Marie was found still cradling six-year-old Dylan Hockley,...
