The Toronto International Film Festival’s prominence on the festival circuit has only grown over the years, with films from numerous different fields having gone on to critical and commercial acclaim. Among the festival’s different categories are Tiff Docs and Vanguard. Tiff Docs allows documentaries to get their own spotlight at the festival, giving acclaimed documentarians such as Michael Moore and Frederick Wiseman a platform for their films. The Vanguard section, on the other hand, showcases films that aren’t easily categorisable into a specific genre. With the Canadian Films lineup announcement having revealed the first set of films playing in each group, Tiff today revealed more of the lineup in each section. The list of newly announced films, with their official synopses, is as follows.

Organisers unleashed their latest volley of programming, an embarrassment of riches featuring new non-fiction work about education activist Malala Yousafzai, Russia’s Bolshoi Theatre, the immediate aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attacks and the iconic tango pairing of María Nieves and Juan Carlos Copes.
Midnight Madness brings a Turkish glimpse of hell, new work from the directors of Almost Human and The Loved Ones, a cyborg Pov story and Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room, which premiered in Cannes and backer Broad Green Pictures recently made available for Us distribution after electing not to self-release.

NonStop Entertainment has secured Nordic rights to documentary Ingrid Bergman - In Her Own Words, playing in Cannes Classics, and Scandinavian rights to Three Generations from Im Global, starring Susan Sarandon, Naomi Watts and Elle Fanning.
Three Generations was recently sold to The Weinstein Company for $6m for North America.
It also has Scandinavia, Iceland and Baltics rights to Josh Mond’s Sundance-selected debut James White from Memento Film Sales and the opener to this year’s Un Certain Regard section, Naomi Kawase´s An, from MK2.
Stig Björkman’s Cannes Classics selected Ingrid Bergman - In Her Own Words from producer Mantaray Film, distributed by NonStop Entertainment in Scandinavia, Iceland, Baltics is set for an August 28 release in the territory, the day before Bergman’s centennial.

Exclusive: Paris-based documentary specialist has sealed several deals on Argentine filmmaker German Kral’s Our Last Tango.
It has sold for theatrical release in Taiwan (Swallow Wings) and in Greece (Rosebud). As previously announced Japanese New Select Co at the beginning of the market.
Deals are currently under negotiation in South Korea, Hong Kong, France and the Us.
The Buena Vista Social Club-style work charts the passionate and complicated relationship between Argentine tango stars María Nieves Rego and Juan Carlos Copes.
The company also sold Ulyana Lopatkina, A Russian star, about celebrated Russian ballerina, to Swallow Wings for Taiwan.
Wide House chief Anais Clanet also announced the imminent completion of international arms trade documentary Shadow World.
“We’re expecting it to premiere this autumn,” she said.

The Buena Vista Social Club-style work charts the passionate and complicated relationship between Argentine tango stars María Nieves Rego and Juan Carlos Copes.
The documentary is executive produced by Wim Wenders, Rodrigo Furth and Jakob Abrahamsson.
Octogenarian Rego and Copes met when they were 14 and 17-years-old.
In Our Last Tango, they recount their passionate, chaotic relationship to a group of young tango dancers and choreographers from Buenos Aires, who transform the most beautiful, moving and dramatic moments of Juan and Maria’s lives into incredible tango-choreographies.
