House of the Dragon Showrunner Departed After HBO Refused to Let His Wife Serve as Producer (Report)
House of the Dragon was a breath of fresh air for fans of Game of Thrones when it premiered in 2022.
By the end of the season, fans were left in shock when it emerged that co-showrunner and director Miguel Sapochnik was bowing out ahead of Season 2.
Details were scarce at the time about why Sapochnik was leaving, but a bombshell new report in Puck is shedding light on the situation.
The outlet reports that the co-showrunner exited "after a protracted standoff over his wife and her involvement in the show."
Sapochnik's wife had a presence both on and off-screen during House of the Dragon Season 1.
Alexis Raben played Talya in several episodes and was one of the series' producers.
When the second season was ordered, Sapochnik wanted Raben to join the producing team for the second season, Puck reports.
However, HBO was not fond of the idea because of Raben's lack of experience.

"House of the Dragon" lost one of its strongest connections to "Game of Thrones" last summer, when "Thrones" director Miguel Sapochnik announced just over a week after the show's premiere that he wouldn't be returning as co-showrunner for season 2. At the time, Sapochnik's exit was thought to be amicable, but a new report from Puck (via IndieWire) has revealed that there's apparently a lot more to the story.
Sapochnik, who directed several epic episodes of the flagship series including "Hardhome" and "The Battle of the Bastards," worked behind-the-scenes of the prequel series as a director, executive producer, and co-showrunner of the first season. He worked closely alongside fellow showrunner and series co-creator Ryan Condal, who assumed sole showrunner responsibilities in the wake of Sapochnik's exit. This is all common knowledge, but Sapochnik also had another connection to the series that fans may not have been aware of: his wife, Alexis Raben,...

No show on television has more family drama than “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s soap opera about the “Game of Thrones” Targaryen clan fighting for control of Westeros. And that drama apparently isn’t just onscreen, according to new reports about the showrunners of the hit series.
Shortly after the first season premiered in August, co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik announced he was leaving the series, though he would continue to executive produce the series. At the time, HBO and Sapochnik framed his exit as an amicable one, with Sapochnik saying “it was incredibly tough to decide to move on, but I know that it is the right choice for me, personally and professionally.”
However, according to a report from Puck — a media startup founded by former reporters at outlets like The Hollywood Reporter, CNN, and The Atlantic — Sapochnik’s exit was far from amicable. The report says that his leave...

Queen Alicent’s maid Talya — or, at least, the woman who portrayed her — turns out to be a more important House of the Dragon figure than we might have realized.
Dragon co-showrunner and director Miguel Sapochnik left HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff ahead of Season 2 “after a protracted standoff over his wife and her involvement in the show,” Puck reports. Sapochnik’s wife? Alexis Raben, who played the queen’s lady-in-waiting in several Season 1 episodes and who also was one of the show’s producers.

"House of the Dragon" takes place a long, long time before the events of "Game of Thrones," so it wouldn't quite make sense for vast majority of "Got" characters to make any sort of appearance. But there is one character fans are theorizing could appear: the Red Witch, Melisandre (Carice van Houten). Could we see our old friend in "House of the Dragon" season two and beyond?
Here's a refresher if you haven't thought about "Game of Thrones" in a while. Melisandre is a Red Priestess who aligns herself with Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane). She preaches the religion of R'hllor, also known as the Lord of Light, who's very closely associated with fire. The faith is much more popular in the Free Cities, and basically no one in Westeros practices before Melisandre comes. They also believe in the Prince That Was Promised, who will save everyone from the darkness. At first,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched Episode 9 of “House of the Dragon,” titled “The Green Council.”
King Viserys is dead, long live King Aegon!
Season 1 of “House of the Dragon” barrels toward an explosive finale next Sunday, as the battle lines are further drawn between the greens and the blacks. The penultimate episode didn’t feature Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) or her side of the impending civil war, instead focusing on how Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and her supporters usurped the Iron Throne and ushered in the new, somewhat reluctant, King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney).
The episode begins with word quickly spreading within the Red Keep of King Viserys’ (Paddy Considine) death overnight. As we saw at the end of the previous episode, Alicent conveniently misinterprets Viserys’ final words about Aegon the Conqueror to be about her son Aegon and how he should be king instead of Rhaenyra.

Warning: contains spoilers for House of the Dragon episode 8 ‘The Lord of the Tides’.
Despite Viserys’ moving plea for unity in episode eight, the royal family are now more divided than ever. That excellent, tense Targaryen supper scene exposed the many cracks undermining the House of the Dragon’s foundations – one tremor and it could all come tumbling down. One tremor such as… Queen Alicent misinterpreting King Viserys’ last words on the succession of the Iron Throne.
Alicent thought the King had chosen son Aegon in his dying breath, while Viserys not only wanted Rhaenyra to inherit the Iron Throne but also believed his daughter had been prophesied by Aegon the Conqueror to unite the Seven Kingdoms against the coming darkness.

Actor Steve Toussaint was as shocked as anyone to learn that “House of the Dragon” co-creator Miguel Sapochnik quit his role as showrunner after just two episodes of the HBO series aired to audiences. The personnel shakeup — which sees Sapochnik continuing with the series in a limited capacity as executive producer, while co-creator Ryan J. Condal takes on the job of showrunning solo — shocked “Game of Thrones” fans between Season 1 episodes “The Rogue Prince” and “Second of His Name.”
“We have this English phrase ‘gutted’ and I was like, ‘Oh no,’” Toussaint, who plays Lord Corlys Velaryon (aka the “Sea Snake”), said in an interview on Entertainment Weekly’s “West of Westeros” podcast. “Ryan rang me, because I’ve been shooting something in Belgium. Miss March is not an original movie: It's about a guy trying to win back a girl. It involves a road trip, vulgar sex jokes and immature actions involving bodily functions. And, of course, some "lesbians." Basically, it's American Pie meets Road Trip meets Fired Up meets — I'll stop now.
The film focuses on Eugene, a guy who wakes up from a four-year coma to realize his once sweet and innocent girlfriend had become a centerfold model in a Playboy-like magazine. Ignoring the fact that they probably don't have much in common anymore, he begins his quest to get her back, and for some reason, girls making out with each other seems to help. Here's the trailer:
Thanks to AfterEllen.com reader Lisa, we learned that the girls make frequent appearances making out in the back of Eugene and his friend's car, distracting them so much that they get into more than one accident.

Have you ever seen a chick unlocking a door with her tongue? If not, check out the trailer for "Miss March" right after the jump.
Written and directed by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, this upcoming comedy follows a guy who embarks on a trip to the Playboy mansion after he wakes up from a four-year coma and discovers his former sweetheart has become a centerfold.
Okay, the basic idea doesn't sound all too rotten, but as you can see in this preview, "Miss March" looks like a pretty simplistic, raunchy comedy filled with brainless slapstick.
Besides Cregger and Moore, the film also stars Raquel Alessi, Molly Stanton and Alexis Raben, among others. Release is set for March 13.
Check out the trailer below and share your thoughts. I've had it with all these road flicks for a while.
