Tennis star Naomi Osaka offered her response to Luca Guadagnino’s buzzy tennis movie Challengers on Thursday, sharing her own moves on the court set to the movie’s viral techno score.
On TikTok, Osaka posted a video of herself moving through a tennis serve and twirling her racket with her fingers after writing, “Me after watching Challengers.”
Though the tennis player has no official ties to the hit movie, which stars Zendaya embroiled in a love triangle with Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes previously told Business Insider it was Osaka’s 2018 win over Serena Williams that partially inspired the film.

In ESPN’s new docuseries “Backstory,” investigative reporter Don Van Natta Jr. goes beyond what viewers think they know about unresolved sports stories of the past and present, beginning with the 2018 U.S. Open Women’s Finals.
Inspired by the hit “30 for 30” series and modeled on “The Last Days of Knight,” three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Van Natta Jr. goes on a “journalism journey through those stories to gather new information and find fresh insight at a time when people really want the truth,” he tells TheWrap.
The debut episode, “Serena vs. The Umpire,” dives into what Van Ant, Jr. calls “the ugliest finish in tennis Grand Slam history.”

Before the 2019 U.S. Open starts, ESPN wants to take viewers back to 2018’s.
In the premiere episode of the new series “Backstory,” the sports-media giant will delve into tennis ace Serena Williams’ controversial skirmish with umpire Carlos Ramos last year. Her back-and-forth would result in a point penalty and a loss of game that contributed to her ultimate defeat by challenger Naomi Osaka in the 2018 women’s final.
“We wanted to do more stories that get behind the scenes, get to that next layer that people don’t often see or rarely see,” explains John Dahl, vice president and executive producer, ESPN Special Projects and Original Content, in an interview.
The executive likens “Backstory” to a mix of the network’s long-running “30 For 30” magazine and a detective working his or her way through the “cold case” file. “Backstory” debuts on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. eastern on ABC,...

Serena Williams is currently playing in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, but her much-talked-about exit from last year’s U.S. Open that was the topic of a personal essay that she wrote in August’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar that was published on Tuesday.
Williams was fined $17,000 after she lost to Naomi Osaka in straight sets following a game penalty in the second set of the final, then called umpire Carlos Ramos a “thief,” and accused him of sexism and demanding an apology.
The tennis icon, who holds the record for 23 Grand Slam singles titles, went on to become the target of media outcry — with some attacking her for “being a sore loser” and unprofessional, and others pledging their support and saying she was “robbed.”

It's been almost one year since Serena Williams lost to Naomi Osaka in the 2018 U.S. Open finals, but the 23-time Grand Slam champion still remembers the defeat like it was yesterday. Williams opened up about the memorable match in a powerful essay for Harper's Bazaar released Tuesday. Many sports fans remember that day for the series of confrontations between Williams and the chair's umpire Carlos Ramos. The first heated exchange took place after Ramos accused Williams of receiving instructions from her coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who was up in the stands. Knowing such behavior is against the rules, Williams insisted she didn't cheat and demanded an apology While...

Serena Williams is thankful for Meghan Markle. Both women are royals in their own right (one figurative and one literal), but at the end of the day, these two women are really just best friends. During an interview with The Project, Williams opened up about how much of a positive force the Duchess of Sussex has been in her life, and vice versa. "We were actually just texting each other this morning," the Grand Slam champion said. One time in particular Williams relied on her royal friend was after her loss at the 2018 U.S. Open. In a stunning defeat, Williams lost to 20-year-old Naomi Osaka, but before that, got into a heated argument with the court's umpire Carlos Ramos. She accused Ramos of...

Sorry Oscars. But after the Indie Spirit Awards, the number two spot in terms of Award Season importance are the Cinema Eye Honors. Seems like it was only yesterday when Aj Schnack & Thom Powers teamed up for one basic, logical concept: an event that would reward yearly output of documentary film in a rightfully sound manner. With the wind in their sails, the 6th annual edition was held last night and deservingly so, adding to its double wins at the Idfa and Sundance, it is 5 Broken Cameras that took the top honors for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking. Co-directed by Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi – political activism via you guessed it, five video cameras. The film was released via Kino Lorber.

The artwork you see here comes from artist Carlos Ramos, a storyboard artist/writer on Dexter's Labratory, Ni Hao Kai-lan and several other animated kids TV series. His artwork was inspired by the films of Stanley Kudrick, and he is holding a solo art exhibition at the Corpro Gallery July 10th thru August 3rd.
11 years after the death of Stanley Kubrick, Ramos pays homage to the man who wrote and directed such films as A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey by transforming the galley into a retrospective space with graphic pieces celebrating the greatest and most respected filmmaker in history. Ramos faces his longtime obsession with Kubrick by painting interpretations of his films including the white-on-white habitations of 2001 to the Native American carpet patterns of The Shining to the matching white Droog uniforms in A Clockwork Orange.
