Film: "Ya Rab"; Cast: Ajaz Khan, Akhilendra Mishra; Director: Hasnain Hyderabadwala; Rating: ***
There is something to be said about a film that speaks out loudly against the religion of intolerance and the culture of violence.
And eye for an eye may be fine for an era gone-by. In today's day and age, just chill, and curb the rage.
That's the message this loud and melodramatic film puts across with a deafening gusto and a blinding sincerity.
While the treatment of the theme of anti-terrorism harks back to the Bollywood potboilers of the 1970s, there is clearly an abundance of passionate integrity in the depiction of the Good Religion and Bad Religion. The characters are seen sighing, bellowing, chortling.

The clamor has begun. As many as four films are releasing this Friday and interestingly, each of these belongs to a different genre. ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ is a romantic comedy with a twist. ‘Heartless’ is a romantic drama. ‘Babloo Happy Hai’ is a buddy comedy while ‘Ya Rab’ is a social thriller.
Amongst these four films, ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ would be seeing the widest release, what with Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap joining hands. The film has been promoted quite well while the premise is looking interesting too. Seeing a decent mid-sized release for itself, the Sidharth Malhotra-Parineeti Chopra starrer should enjoy an opening around the 50% mark and then see youth stepping in greater numbers, if the word of mouth is good.
‘Heartless’ is the comeback affair for Adhyayan Suman and has enjoyed decent promotion too. It boasts of some good songs, something that has been the case with Adhyayan right through (Haal-e-Dil,...

The much-criticised Censor Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc), long condemned for kow-towing to conservative elements has not only passed the controversial film Ya Rab with minimum cuts, the hard-hitting film was also praised by the censor board for its message on religious fundamentalism.
The censorial spurt of liberalism for a film depicting the pitfalls of rabid radicalism comes amidst a flurry of violent protest against the film by a section of religious fundamentalists who claim the film depicts their religion wrongly.
Protests director Hasnain Hyderabadwala, "How do they know what I've shown in the film? No one has seen a single frame. I am arguing for peace, and the danger of losing our identity in pursuit of violent radicalism. If my film was showing anything wrong would someone of Mahesh Bhatt Saab's stature support it? And would the censor board risk the anger of the offended if there was anything offensive in the film?...

Being promoted as a film based on Islamic principles, Ya Rab is slated to release on February 7. However, The All-India Milli Council's Maharashtra unit has expressed their objection over the release of the film.
A delegation of this council involving Congress Mla Amin Patel, former legislator Yusuf Abrahni and the general secretary of the council M A Khalid submitted a memorandum demanding a ban of the film to the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. Khalid who has seen the film believes that certain scenes may hurt religious sentiments and might affect the law and order of the country and hence has called for a ban of the film.
However, the director Hasnain Hyderabadwala maintains that his film is in fact against demonization of Islam and opposes terrorism. He also revealed that the crew has sought help from Mahesh Bhatt in order to release it on the said date without any hindrances.

The shooting of producer Mohsin Ali Khan and director Hasnain Hyderabadwala’s Ya Rab is complete and ready to release. The film is co-produced by Rohit Kumar, the film features Vikram Singh in the lead. The film deals with the Muslim community and revolves around the facts of Quran. The director of the film is known for doing commercial cinema like The Train and The Killer, he has now taken a bold turn with a film on religious view points from Islam. The subject considered is too hot to touch, considering the fragile sensibilities associated with the subject it’s very imperative that the high officials of Islamic community should review before its commercial release.
The team of Ya Rab has organized a special screening at light box for their respected Maulanas; the objective of the screening was to make sure the movie content is apt and doesn’t defames the Islamic commandments.

If the director duo of recently released Jashnn are to be believed, it is in the process of finalizing a script for which Shahid Kapoor would be best suited to play the part of a lead protagonist. Though the plot is still being kept under the wraps, Hasnain Hyderabadwala and Raksha Mistry believe that the film would again challenge Shahid as an actor. Says Hasnain, "Even when we were wrapping up Jashnn, we were busy closing in on the subject of our next film. This is again a se...

It can’t get more ironical than this. When Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala lifted scripts for their first two films ‘The Killer’ and ‘The Train’, they still took some reasonable opening at the box office. Final run of both small budget films wasn’t very impressive though but still the common factor between the two Emraan Hashmi starrers was ‘universally bad reviews’.
Circa 2009 and the director duo return with their most sensitive, honest and sincere attempt- ‘Jashnn’. Sad but the truth is that the film has taken the lowest.

Vishesh Films’ is one banner that encourages youngsters and although most of their films are understandably low budget, money is spent wisely. Instead of opting for big stars and pricey foreign locations, Bhatt brothers invest in good music, riveting scripts and talented directors. This business model has worked brilliantly for them so far.

The two films will have for company Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince and its dubbed version(s). Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala, the co-directors of Jashnn have sworn off making remakes, especially after the box office failure of The Killer and The Train, both of which were lifted from Hollywood films. However, rather than being a boon to pick up something that was readymade, these projects only resulted in Raksha and Hasnain doubting their own abilities as storytellers."We started wondering if there was something inherently wrong with us", states Raksha......

In his first film Haal-e-dil, Adhyayan Suman hardly had a role that he would want to remember. In his very second film Raaz - The Mystery Continues he turned villain with vengeance and gave a good account of himself as Kangna's boyfriend turned tormentor. Now in Jashnn, a romantic musical entertainer, he turns into a quintessential lover boy. Add to that his character of an aspiring rock star and you know that Adhyayan is looking at this Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala...
