Merchant, wealthy landowner, and philanthropist in Texas during the first half of the twentieth century. "T.J." Taylor opened a general store in Karnack, Texas, in the 1890s and amassed wealth through real estate investments. In the early 1900s he bought the "Brick House", the Andrews Plantation mansion in Harrison County, East Texas, and leased land to cotton sharecroppers.
