Next year will be 40 years since the premiere of Barry Levinson’s and Chris Columbus’ Young Sherlock Holmes, in which Nicholas Rowe (now 57) portrayed a young version of the famous detective. The screenplay was just based on Doyle’s original characters and was supposed to present the famous detective to a younger audience. And while we were promised a sequel, it never happened and the movie became a part of history, and still a much-beloved children’s film. But, it has been confirmed that we are going to go back to a younger Sherlock Holmes, although in a somewhat different format.
Namely, Amazon Prime has confirmed that an eight-episode series titled Young Sherlock has been ordered, with a tentative release date set for sometime in 2025, although details on the series are still scarce, we do – as you will soon see – have some important updates for you.

Deadline reports that Hero Fiennes Tiffin of the After film series has signed on to star in the Young Sherlock series that has been ordered by Prime Video – and to clear up any possible confusion before it can arise: no, this is not a series reboot or continuation of the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes, which came to us from director Barry Levinson, screenwriter Chris Columbus, and producer Steven Spielberg. Rather, this is an adaptation of the Young Sherlock series of novels that author Andrew Lane started writing in 2010. That series was a response to the success Charlie Higson was having with his series of Young James Bond novels. Guy Ritchie is on board to direct and executive produce all eight episodes of Young Sherlock‘s first season. Ritchie, of course, has prior Sherlock Holmes experience, having directed Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic character in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes and...

The “winners” will be “honored” on March 26, the day before the Academy Awards. Watch the nominations video above.

As is tradition, the Golden Raspberry Awards announced their contenders on the eve of the Oscar nominations. The Razzies, now in their 42nd year, are a tongue-in-cheek ceremony that “honor” the worst films of the year. Scroll down for the full list of nominees in all 10 Razzie Awards categories ranging from Worst Picture to Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel. Unique to this year is a category dedicated to Bruce Willis and his eight performances in pictures last year.
Leading the 2022 Razzie Awards nominations roster is the Netflix version of the Broadway flop “Diana: The Musical” with nine bids. Tied with five apiece are “Karen” and “The Woman in the Window.” Each of these ill-conceived movies counts a Worst Picture nomination among its haul. Joining them in that race are the sequel “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and the sci-fi flick “Infinite.”
As usual, “winners” will be decided by Razzie members.

The Razzie Awards nominations recognizing the worst “crap streaming, beaming and steaming from our various screens and devices” of 2021 — as the group put it — have been announced, with LeBron James, “Diana: The Musical,” Amy Adams and Bruce Willis topping the heap.
“Here’s a look at what we saw,” the organization said in a press release. “The excruciating musicals, thrill-free thriller rip-offs, a nearly 2 hour product placement flick, and more Bruce Willis than any starving viewer could stomach. In other words, 2021 did not fail the Razzies!”
With Oscar nominations coming out on Tuesday morning, the Academy Award’s snarky counterpart, the Golden Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies) followed suit as they do every year at this time acknowledging the superior work – or, actually, the inferior work – coming out of the entertainment industry.

Cupid striking between a man and machine or a Victorian romance during the zombie apocalypse, what sounds wackier? Some films are based on the most insane of ideas that seem weird at first, but end up as delightfully entertaining cinema.
Here are 4 such memorable movies with unbelievably zany plots.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Pride and Prejudice was an unabashedly feminist novel celebrating the importance of inner beauty over fake externals. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is all of that, but with one macabre addition.
A witty take on Jane Austen’s much loved book; this film introduces rabid zombies to the “prim and proper” world of 19th century England. What ensues is a rollicking journey that not only retains the charm of the original but also entertains us with a fresh and interesting storyline. Part zombie horror, part romantic comedy and a whole lot of fun, this Burr Steers...

Transatlantic production group Red Arrow Studios has agreed a multi-year contract extension with Hilary Bevan Jones, founder and managing director of Endor Productions, the U.K.-based scripted producer of “Vienna Blood” and “Deep State.”
Bevan Jones’s Endor Productions became part of German broadcast giant ProSiebenSat.1’s production subsidiary Red Arrow Studios in 2012.
The deal follows a busy spell for Endor. Its acclaimed recent Orf and Zdf series “Vienna Blood” was acquired by the BBC and PBS, while it has made two seasons of Matthew Parkhill’s “Deep State” for Fox Networks Group. Coming up is new BBC One drama “But When We Dance,” written by Paul Mayhew-Archer.
Last month, ProSiebenSat.1 canceled a proposed sale of Red Arrow Studios — which comprises 20 production companies including Kinetic Content, the producer behind Netflix hit “Love is Bliind” — amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The second season of the show, which was commissioned by Fng and acquired by Epix, will delve deeper into the murky and political world of the deep state.

Deep State, the Epix action/spy series, returns for Season 2, this time with Walton Goggins as its star.
Deep State made its U.S. debut back in June 2018 on cable channel Epix, showcasing a slick small screen spy thriller headlined by the ever-capable (Shazam! villain) Mark Strong, who played Max Eaton, an ex-spy who becomes thrust into a covert intelligence war. The series, an internationally distributed product of Fox Networks Group, received a quick Season 2 renewal, but the status of its domestic deal was left uncertain for months until Epix's renewal announcement arrived that August.
Not only would fears over the show's status prove unwarranted, but the renewal would come with the reveal of a brand-new star in Walton Goggins. Moreover, it appears that Season 2 will see the show live up to its titular term, “deep state,” which has become a potent concept in the increasingly partisan political arena,...

Justified and Vice Principals alum Walton Goggins will headline and executive produce the upcoming eight-episode second season of Deep State, I have learned. The spy thriller, from Fox Networks Group Europe & Africa, airs in 50 markets across the region.
Goggins will take over for Mark Strong, who starred in the first season.
Co-created, directed and written by Matthew Parkhill (Rogue), Deep State is described as a grounded, visceral thriller, moving between the deeply personal story of a family man fighting to escape his past and the violent, dark excesses of government and global corporate power.
The first season centered around Max Easton (Strong), an ex-spy whose past comes back to haunt him when he’s summoned away from his new life in the Pyrenees by George White (Alistair Petrie), head of covert MI6/CIA team “The Section.” White convinces Max to return to the field to avenge the death of his estranged son Harry.

Is there a hit from the past decade more widely imitated than “Homeland”? Perhaps that’s because the spy serial’s action-packed appeal seems easily replicable, even without a character as indelible as Carrie Mathison. Building relatable characters is hard, but ratcheting up tension is easy. Right?
Epix’s new series “Deep State” creates tense situations that don’t quite hit home — because, artfully directed and grimace-inducingly violent as those situations may be, they’re happening to people from whom we feel a strange remove. On “Deep State,” Mark Strong’s Max Easton is called back into the field as an MI6 agent to course-correct a failing mission in the Middle East. In so doing, he’s called away from his bucolic family life in France — including a wife who knows less than she might and who takes it upon herself to learn what her husband’s been up to.

Directed by Matthew Parkhill
Puerto Rico/United Kingdom, 2011
It creaks, it wobbles, but it doesn’t crack. That’s the best way to describe The Caller, a horror film that makes the most out of an interesting premise. The horror genre is not short on films with great premises, but it, much like the film world in general, is short on films that make the most out of their great premise. The Caller nearly blows it multiple times, but somehow Matthew Parkhill’s film manages to keep it all together and deliver on the promise of its premise.
Working with time travel, or time distortion as the case may be, is always a dicey proposition. It’s so easy for a film that deals with any sort of time theme to be a jumbled mess. There are a few times when The Caller comes...

"Rogue," the crime drama created by executive producer Matthew Parkhill ("The Caller") that stars Thandie Newton as an undercover cop in Oakland, CA, wasn't universally acclaimed, but it was still enough of a success as a first attempt at an original scripted drama for DirecTV that the satellite service ordered a second season. Newton will return as Grace Travis, with Cole Hauser ("Transcendence") joining the cast as the charming and enigmatic Ethan Kelly.
