One of the favorites heading into this year’s Canneseries Short-Form Competition has to be the star-studded anthology series “Do Not Disturb,” spearheaded by the U.K.’s Pulse Films in association with Blackpills Studio.
Michael Haussman and Larry Volpi created the series, and its nine, 10-minute episodes were written by the two along with Olivia Poulet, Mike O’Leary, Nida Manzoor and Davey Spens.
“Do Not Disturb” takes the audience behind the little plastic placards we hang on hotel-room door handles when we need a nap, want to be left alone, or perhaps up to something a bit more adult, as is often the case in this show.
Some episodes are comedies, some terrifying and others sultry, but each explores the darker side of humanity that is often kept behind closed doors.
The series’ directors include Haussman, Jude Law, Jake Chapman, Mounia Akl, Dylan Southern, Will Lovelace, Zoe Casavettes and Matthew Huston.

What do you do when the series that you've worked on for more than a decade – one that's attained cult status, spawned BuzzFeed listicles and earned you famous fans on both sides of the Atlantic – has finally come to an end? For David Mitchell and Robert Webb, the stars of the beloved Britcom Peep Show, which ran on the U.K.'s Channel 4 from 2003 to 2015, the answer was obvious: Get to work on another series.

Like any other most recent output from an established comedy duo or writing team, it’s impossible not to see back the latest series from stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb without a consideration of the titanic work they’ve done in the past. Written by long time collaborator and “Veep” writer Simon Blackwell, “Back” is a fainter echo of their work on the legendary “Peep Show” and their sketch shows across different media. Bringing some of that previous sensibility to a more conventional comedy may not be the most satisfying use of their talents, but this is still a twisted dark family comedy that’s worth a shot for die-hards.
“Back” tells the simple, spiraling story of Stephen (Mitchell), a man dealing with the aftermath of his father’s death. The family-owned John Barleycorn pub is set to come under his control, right as he’s starting to be...

Having tackled Sherlock and Khan over the past few years, Benedict Cumberbatch is certainly no stranger to playing iconic roles. And he's just added one more.
Cumberbatch finally gives us a taste of dragon Smaug in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," out Friday, December 13. While Cumberbatch can't really "play" the CGI dragon on screen, the English actor was instrumental in Smaug's creation -- and, of course, also voices the mythical creature.
Whether or not you've seen Cumberbatch on the big screen or the stage of late (it's hard to miss him!), there's still much to know about this rising star. From his African abduction to his mutation, here are 19 things you probably don't know about Benedict Cumberbatch.
1. While on location in South Africa for "To the Ends of the Earth" (2005), Cumberbatch experienced a horrific carjacking in which he was kidnapped, but talked his way into getting released. He subsequently...

Benedict Cumberbatch will dominate theaters this Fall with roles in four upcoming films, including The Fifth Estate and August: Osage County. But did you know the Emmy-winning Sherlock has a crazy past? During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Benedict confessed that he once was abducted, prompting us to ask: what else don't we know about him?! We put on our Sherlock caps and came up with some curious information. He's still traumatized by his abduction. In THR, Benedict told the story of his abduction while filming the 2005 miniseries To the Ends of the Earth in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. One weekend, as he was returning from a diving trip, his tire popped. Then all of the sudden his truck was ambushed by six armed figures: "I was scared, really scared. I said, 'What are you going to do with us? Are you going to kill us?' I was really...

Finally, Episode 5 of this series found both sides of the government in action, as all parties tried to deal best with the fall-out of the viper's kiss that had felled Nicola Murray (Rebecca Front).

I’ll be honest, this week’s episode was quite the disappointment. At best, it felt like a rather good online spin-off of the show which features the now-opposition. Don’t get me wrong, the laughs came pretty thick and fast towards the end, but the whole episode seemed generally rather meandering and unfocused. I missed the fluent swearing, and the whole opposition team. The only saving grace here was Roger Allam as Peter Mannion, again the stand-out in the episodes that are focusing on the current coalition government.
Everything was unbalanced. Things really picked up with Tickle’s death, which made everything a lot funnier, but it still wasn’t enough.Vincent’s Franklin’s Stewart Pearson is just not in the same league as Malcolm Tucker- I’m not saying they should be the same, but he hasn’t enough bite, or enough to truly ridicule.

After last week's almost existential angst in Opposition, the subdued Malcolm Tucker can at least console himself it's not all fun and backslaps in the Coalition Government, but it's definitely jollier for us watching.
Peter Mannion (Roger Allam)'s tenuous grip on power continued as he found himself in the horrors of Boot Camp, an out-of-office idyll based on Stewart's guru thinking that "isolation is the mother of renewal".
Peter Mannion found himself enduring the horrors of Boot Camp
"This is policy jamming," explained Stewart (Vincent Franklin) as the ideas-ball went around the room. "I feel like I've joined the Scientologists," grumbled Peter, although it did give him a great opportunity for a rejoinder... "When's a party not a party?" asked Stewart. "When it's at your house," said Peter. An instant classic.
Meanwhile back at HQ, all was the usual unseemly tussle for alpha-male status and female attention between those great kings of the walk,...

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly dating the daughter of American heiress-turned-bank robber Patty Hearst.
The War Horse star ended a 10-year relationship with his longterm partner, actress Olivia Poulet, last March and his subsequent romance with fashion designer Anna Jones came to an end in January.
Cumberbatch has now reportedly moved on with model/actress Lydia Hearst, 27, who split from actor Jeff Goldblum last year.
The pair has been spotted on several dates, and they went to Sir Elton John's annual Academy Awards viewing party together on Sunday night, according to Britain's Daily Mail.
Hearst's publishing heiress mother Patty was famously kidnapped by a left-wing guerilla group in 1974 and she went on to rob a bank with them in California. She was later arrested and sentenced to 35 years behind bars, but only served two after her jail time was cut by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch is single again after splitting from his fashion designer girlfriend.
The War Horse star ended a 10-year relationship with his longterm partner, actress Olivia Poulet, last March and he later moved on with Anna Jones.
However, Cumberbatch's sister Tracy Peacock has revealed he's ended his latest romance, and she insists her brother is just unlucky in love.
She tells Britain's The Sun, "You would have to be a pretty smart cookie to keep up with him. I think that is possibly why he has trouble with girlfriends... One of his regrets is that he hasn't found someone to settle down with. I think they would have to be someone not in the acting profession. Someone who was happy to hold down the fort (sic) while he went off and pursued his career."...

As the Sherlock star prepares to play a dapper 70s spook in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Benedict Cumberbatch tells Emma John about the joys of kitesurfing, being single and punching Tom Hardy – while presenting the sharpest looks from the coming season
Benedict Cumberbatch is talking Edwardian manners, the brutishness of croquet and a million other things that segue rapidly into each other while my brain struggles feebly to keep up. He is making me a cup of Earl Grey, and a single question – shall we share a teabag? – has triggered this rush of inspiration, from tea ceremonies to post-colonial theory. It's fair to say that Cumberbatch is both a thinker and a talker.
His features – the huge almond eyes, the sweeping Cupid's bow, the acute tapering from cheekbones to chin – can, in repose, hint at something extra-terrestrial; lit with animation, however, they're charmingly boyish. He's soon to begin shooting a...

Benedict Cumberbatch is surprised that playing Sherlock Holmes has made him a sex symbol. The 'Sherlock' actor admitted he finds it bizarre that he has suddenly become the focus of female attention since taking on the role of the fictional detective in the BBC One drama. He said: ''What's so funny is that Holmes is asexual. So when you think that he's an asexual sociopath who's pretty dismissive of relationships, it's extraordinary to become a sex symbol playing him. Turmeric (Olivia Poulet) and Deborah (Sarah Solemani) are two hippy Brit idealist environmentalists living together in a meager shed in Turmeric's parent's backyard. They believe that every action they make has genocidal consequences. Maybe you've heard of the butterfly effect. Well that's just in movies. In the web series 'mentalists, the concept is much more straightforward. Here in the world that Turmeric and Deborah live in, the real world, it is more like the superginormous, skyscraper huge, gorilla with batwings spewing carbon emissions effect. That's right. These two know that when we, the industrialized nation giant gorilla with batwings people, flush our refuse down our swimming pool sized toilets at least 300 baby white tigers die. That is the type of impact we are talking about here, people. It is severe. So what are these two bashful birds doing about this? They have decided to start a regular podcast documenting their...
