Pooh Shiesty was the talk of the town in 2019. The up-and-coming rapper was making airwaves around the rap community by dropping songs that were undeniable hits. However, rappers aren’t usually known for their clean image. Not much is known about Pooh Shiesty’s past, but he had a gangster image that saw him caught up in a couple of controversies. It’s incredibly hard to catch fire within the music business. So for Pooh Shiesty to come in the rap game at such a young age and get mainstream attention in a short period of time proves that he’s certainly talented.

The Billboard Music Awards were held on Sunday night, May 15, honoring the biggest hits in music. Like the fan-voted VMAs or American Music Awards, this event is more or less a popularity contest, but listeners didn’t get to vote directly for the winners. Scroll down to find out who the 2022 Billboard Music Awards winners were.

Coi Leray’s album Trendsetter marks the culmination of a nearly four-year journey that began with the RIAA-certified success of 2018’s “Huddy” and continued with 2021’s “No More Parties.” It also included a handful of minor dustups: video of her at last year’s Rolling Loud Miami drew social media mockery for her concert audience’s nonplussed reaction; and, more worryingly, a war of words erupted with her estranged father, rapper and onetime Eminem combatant turned reality-tv star Benzino. Ironically, the tumult elevated Coi Leray’s profile, helping her emerge...

The last few months have been great for hip-hop. With multiple high-profile releases — some acclaimed, some commercially successful, and some both — and myriad buzzy new artists making big splashes in the genre, what should we expect in the rap field this year at the Grammys? Let’s consider some of the biggest contenders so far as well as a few possible hidden gems.
You can’t start a Grammys rap piece without mentioning one of the biggest hip-hop moments of the last 10 years: Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wap.” The song is likely the front-runner for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. It isn’t often that a debut single goes on to become the biggest song of the year. Historically, it’s taken a swaggering, genre-squashing disruptor like Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” or something like Kesha’s “Tik Tok,” so hooky and energetic it might just cause withdrawal, for a track from a newbie to overthrow established stars. But can a slow-burning pop ballad about teenage heartbreak pull it off?
