Why Iman Continues to Push for Progress in the Modeling Industry: ‘Do Not Take the Foot Off the Gas’
When legendary supermodel Iman was first discovered by photographer Peter Beard in Nairobi, Kenya in 1975, a New York Post article circulated claiming that the young discovery was a goat herder who didn’t speak a lick of English. After she arrived in the U.S. three months after the article’s publication, Iman wowed the press when she revealed that she did, in fact, speak English, as well an additional four languages and was a diplomat’s daughter.
“I was going to speak for myself when I got here,” Iman told TheWrap, underlining that she set the record straight to undo the mythology built around the young model before she even moved to the states.
This clever move enabled Iman to control her narrative, as she continues to do nearly 50 years later as an executive producer for Vogue’s “Supreme Models,” a six-part docuseries focused on the evolution of Black...

Attempting to get the bold and bushy eyebrows of stars like Cara Delevingne without a pencil might be attainable – though it comes with a hefty price tag and a whole lot of pain.
Meredith Vieira and her panel of beauty experts discussed the new controversial procedure on Monday's The Meredith Vieira Show, and the feelings were mixed.
"I'm doing it – I don't care how much it is," said stylist Marcellas Reynolds, who claimed he was signing up. "I have always wanted big thick caterpillar eyebrows and I never have. And I don't care where the hair comes from."
Meanwhile, Nigel Barker...

Every week we pick the gays who we think have made the biggest splash in television and leave it to you, the keepers of the flame, to decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week. We'll announce the winner in Friday's Bgwe column, and that champ will reign until a new set of challengers are introduced the following week to try to steal his title.
Last week Oliver Fish from One Life to Live took the crown for his angsty coming out scene. But this week he's been busy on the periphery with police work, and a slew of reality show personalities have crowded out the field: We've got a gay Idol finalist and his groom, a harried Project Runway contestant, the most successful gay Big Brother housemate ever, and a guy who literally "danced his ass off" (well, at least 90 pounds of it).
Check them out after the break,...

Earlier this season, the 11th season of CBS's stalwart reality show Big Brother made news for the homophobic behavior of some of it's houseguests. You know, like pretty much every other season of the show (and we previously covered CBS' hypocritical handling of these incidents). Fortunately, a couple of more positive things have happened since then, including out contestant Kevin Campbell apparently securing himself a spot in the top four.
This surpasses the fifth place finish of Marcellas Reynolds in the show's third season and, frankly, comes as quite a surprise as Kevin hasn't exactly been a power player. But kudos to him for making it this far and as this week's Head of Household, Kevin was rewarded with a letter from his partner which he read to the other housemates on last night's episode.
These later episodes have also featured Kevin openly firting with Jeffrey in an innocent and appropriate way.

According to my sources,Gretchen Massey the host of "House Calls" stated on her Myspace page that the Big Brother talk show has been canceled for the Big Brother 11 season do to the fact that it couldn't find a sponsor. The show started back in 2004 during the "Big Brother 5" season and was then hosted by Gretchen Massey and Marcellas Reynolds from "Big Brother 3". The two of them hosted it for two seasons. Then after that, Gretchen hosted it with other houseguests from past shows. The show had become very popular on the internet, and drew a large crowd of online viewers who would call in and give their opinions. Gretchen would also have an interview with each houseguest that got evicted each week which was a real highlight for fans of the show.

While the number of gay/bisexual characters on scripted television has, at best, held steady over the past decade (and doesn’t exactly represent the diversity of gay men in the real world), it’s a different story when it comes to the depiction of gay men on reality television. Indeed, along with the explosion of reality programming has come a dramatic increase in the numbers and types of gay and bisexual men appearing on our television screens.
From the groundbreaking appearance of Pedro Zamora on The Real World: San Francisco to the current seasons of The Amazing Race, Survivor: Tocantins, and Make Me a Supermodel, there is a breadth of gay men that is quite frankly astounding.
In fact, there have now been so many gay and bisexual men on reality television that we decided to let AfterElton.com readers choose their favorites of all time. Here...

Retired supermodel Tyra Banks has lost 30 pounds in five months after photographs of her beachwear left her in tears on her U.S. TV talk show. Banks insisted the shots of her in a bikini during a winter break were just taken from a bad angle as she launched a 'So What' campaign on her TV show and urged the tabloids to stop poking fun at stars' weight loss and weight gain. At one point she broke down on her show, stating, "With all the self-esteem my mom instilled in me, the criticism still hurts." But the terrible photographs forced Banks to take action - and, after months spent eating right and exercising, she has dropped 30 pounds, according to Life & Style magazine. An insider tells the publication, "She's eating healthy foods, but they're ones she likes, so she's more apt to maintain her diet." And she's completely revamped the food that's available to her and guests backstage at her show. Marcellas Reynolds, a frequent guest on The Tyra Banks Show, adds, "The craft-service table is now entirely absent of junk food and carbs. All you see are lean turkey sandwiches and loads of fresh-cut veggies and fruit."...
