In case you missed it, Aquaman opens December 21 and the early buzz is good. This will be his solo feature film, but he took front and center in 2015’s animated feature, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, loosely based on the story arc that ran in Justice League and Aquaman, back when Geoff Johns was writing both series.
We reviewed the release back then and found Heath Corson’s script adaptation to be lacking in heart, eschewing characterization over mindless action.
To capitalize on interest in the Sea King, Warner Home Entertainment has released a commemorative edition that includes the complete film and the original extras: Villains of the Deep (12:00), Scoring Atlantis: The Sound of the Deep (30:00), Robin and Nightwing Bonus Sequence (4:00), and the 2014 NY Comic-Con Panel (27:00). Rounding things out, DC Comics Vault (83 minutes) offers up four episodes: “Aquaman’s Outrageous Adventure!” and “Evil Under the Sea!

This exclusive preview of Nightwing/Magilla Gorilla is surprising in every way.
With Halloween fast approaching, we're due for another round of the shockingly good DC/Hanna Barbera crossovers, and DC sent us an exclusive preview of Nightwing/Magilla Gorilla from Heath Corson (from the also-shockingly good Bizarro) and Tom Grummett (Superboy).
We've already had a number of insanely good comics from DC's Hanna Barbera line - both individual series like Snagglepuss and The Flintstones, and from crossovers like Black Lightning/Hong Kong Phooey. And while it's astonishing that any of these premises came out good at all, it's even more incredible that they continue to be good.
Magilla Gorilla was a flimsy 60s premise about a gorilla who Mr. Peebles can't sell. That's...about it. It was the same joke over and over again, with no actual gags outside of your typical thin early-tv sitcom repetitions and fourth wall breaking.

Aquaman finally gets his due in Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, out now from Warner Home Entertainment. In the latest installment in the new linked video continuity, all inspired by the uninspiring New 52 reality. As is fitting in a spotlight film like this, Aquaman’s origins are explored so we also get the tried and true enmity between Arthur Curry and Orm, the Ocean Master. There’s lots of shouting, fighting, fish, and Sturm und Drang but honestly, not a lot of warmth and emotion—much like the current source material.

When the Kingdom of Altantis prepares to retaliate for an attack on their people by the Us Military, it is up to the Justice League to stop this rising threat while Arthur Curry finds out about his real origins.

Okay, I have been a long-time fan of DC’s animated universe (having started out as a kid watching Batman:Tas through to Justice League Unlimited and then to the movies like Superman:Doomsday, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Justice League: Flashpoint) and it wasn’t until the New 52 began that I started to read the comics, which unfortunately gave me background knowledge of what happens in this particular story and so diluted my overall view of this film.

Although 20th Century Fox currently owns the live-action rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, Marvel Entertainment continues to include these characters in their everyday goings-on in the comics. We may never see the X-Men or Fantastic Four team up with The Avengers on the big screen, but they can still hang out with each other on the printed page. However, now Marvel has decided to stick in to Fox by taking drastic action within their comic books, specifically towards mutants. Notable X-Men writer Chris Claremont was on the Nerdist Podcast several months back as part of a conversation with other comic book writers Len Wein, Marc Bernardin and Heath Corson, but a particular section of the conversation went unnoticed until Bleeding Cool recently listened to the episode and dug it up. According to Claremont, if you.re currently a writer on one of Marvel.s X-Men books, you.re...

Based on a video game, Batman: Arkham, which I do not play, I came into Batman: Assault on Arkham, without any particular predisposition. As the first editor of the Suicide Squad, I was intrigued to see how they would operate. As I feared, screenwriter Heath Corson totally misused the team in this violent, pointless direct-to-animated mess which is unleashed on Tuesday.
Amanda Waller (Cch Pounder) played within the gray areas of the DC Universe, picking damaged heroes and villains, as needed for missions. She made sure there was a field leader to keep them in line, and offered the heroes something they wanted and the villains a chance at clearing their records. Here, she collects a motley assortment of villains without a real rationale for each, putting them together for a mission that makes little sense. The silly MacGuffin here is that the Riddler (Matthew Gray Gubler) has stolen...

As part of celebrating 75 Years of Batman, Assault on Arkham is primed to bring some of Batman’s most well-known villains into the spotlight. We were lucky enough to sit down with many of the folks responsible for bringing this newest animated feature to life and they’ve given us a glimpse into what we can expect to see next month.
First, if you weren’t aware this Batman film will take place in the same Bat-Universe as the stellar Rocksteady video games. Assault on Arkham unfolds between the end of Arkham Origins and the beginning of Arkham Asylum. They wouldn’t go into specifics of where in that time period it does fall, but it is certain that fan-favorite Kevin Conroy has returned to voice the Caped Crusader. In previous interviews about Arkham Origins, the developers stated that Kevin Conroy not being the voice of Batman in that game...

We are only a few weeks away from the geeky awesomeness that is San Diego Comic-Con, and studios are lining up to show off their upcoming slate of projects. Today, Warner Bros. announced details on what they plan on bringing to the show, including the DC Comics based TV shows, Batman anniversary celebration, and first looks at the final Hobbit film and Mad Max Fury Road.
If you're planning your Sdcc weekend around what could be announced, then these schedules will come in very handy for you. WB has now announced their schedule of events and broken down what they expect to show at this year's event. From the sounds of it we'll be getting our first teasers for The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies and, thankfully, Mad Max: Fury Road.
While some are wondering at the absence of any mention of Batman v. Superman, I wouldn't get too upset just yet.

Warner Bros. has released a very special featurette for WB Animation’s upcoming Batman: Assault on Arkham, revealing new footage from the animated feature as well as concept art and plot details.
“The movie takes place, maybe two years before the first video game, which is Arkham Asylum,” says Jay Oliva, director of Batman: Assault on Arkham. In terms of the plot details, “Basically, the story is, Amanda Waller pulls together a bunch of criminals to steal something that the Riddler has,” says voice director Andrea Romano. Screenwriter Heath Corson adds, “The Riddler has hacked [Waller's] computer and has downloaded a list of everyone who could possibly be in the Suicide Squad.”

"The movie takes place, maybe two years before the first video game, which is Arkham Asylum," says Jay Oliva, director of Batman: Assault on Arkham. As far as the plot goes, "Basically, the story is, Amanda Waller pulls together a bunch of criminals to steal something that the Riddler has," says legendary voice director Andrea Romano. Screenwriter Heath Corson adds, "The Riddler has hacked [Waller's] computer and has downloaded a list of everyone who could possibly be in the Suicide Squad." This most likely means that the Suicide Squad is sent into Arkham to silence the Riddler before the list is released into the open. The rest of the creative talent goes on to say that Batman doesn't actually come into the film until a bit later and that initially, the camera is showing events from the perspective of the bad guys. The screenwriter, Corson, then adds that one of the...

"I’ve been wanting to get my hands on these characters forever, since I was seven years old,” says Corson. “I mean, I literally tweeted a picture of myself as Superman when I was nine years old today, and so this is a huge dream come true.” Mixing the kind of large-scale action that defined Johns and Lee’s storyline as...

The Warner Animation series of direct-to-disc features has apparently said farewell to the past as this week’s release of Justice League: War and May’s Son of Batman are both from the New 52 era. A pity given how many cool stories remain unadapted. Readers who picked up Justice League #1 in August 2011 were treated to a brand new take on the tried and true characters from DC Comics, but it was clearly early in their collective careers. It was the first time many were meeting one another and dealing with the threat of Darkseid from Apokolips.
A fresh start but far from a clean one but discussions of that title and the entire New 52 belong elsewhere. Right now, we’re examining the latest feature from director Jay Oliva to see how well it stands up on its own. He’s working from a script by Heath Corson, making his DC...

Set in the world of DC's New 52, Justice League: War, being released next month, is inspired by the first Jl arc written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Jim Lee. As things unfold, the members of the League meet for the first time and have to learn to work together while fighting Darkseid and his minions. "My take was basically The Breakfast Club With Superheroes," laughs writer Heath Corson. "These are guys who are meeting each other for the first time; these are people who have maybe seen or heard of each other. The world is just starting to know about them. What if they had no idea about each other, what they're capable of, what they'll do, what they can do? These are guys in their '20s and, let's be honest, a 25-year-old Green Lantern is a douche. He's a frat boy. And then you rub him against Batman,...

Superman is a science fiction story. What else can you say about the sole survivor of a doomed planet coming to live on Earth? As a result, some of the best stories about the Man of Steel have been science fiction in nature so it’s a wonder that it has taken this long before one of his confrontations with fellow alien Brainiac was brought to the screen. The feature films keep reusing Lex Luthor and General Zod, ignoring the computer construct from the distant world of Colu, who has captured specimen cities from countless worlds, including one from Krypton.

The 64th Annual Writers Guild of America Awards were handed out by Hollywood notables to very deserving WGA members in concurrent ceremonies on both coasts last weekend. Zooey Deschanel and Joel McHale tag teamed the Los Angeles-based kudosfest while Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch hosted the East Coast version in New York City. The emcees had help in distributing trophies reminiscent of whale tails (because a good writer knows how to spin one whale of a tale) and entertaining the self-deprecating and boozed up crowd (at least that’s how you could describe the audience at the B.B. King House of Blues in Times Square) from household celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Kristin Wiig, and Mandy Patinkin. Those individuals and more handed out and/or accepted honors on behalf of winners like Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris, Vince Gilligan for Breaking Bad, Henry Bromell for Homeland, and...

The Writers Guild of America East and West announced in October 2010 that for the first time in its then 62 years of honoring excellence in film, television, and radio, its WGA Awards would also recognizing outstanding writing in new media. “Aim High” is an original action web series on Facebook. Yes, they’re doing that now. Welcome to the 21st century, kids. It stars that guy from “Twilight” and that girl from “Friday Night Lights”, and it’s surprisingly good. I don’t mean for that to sound like a backhanded compliment, but fact is, I wasn’t expecting it to be as nicely written, acted, and directed as the first two episodes were. The scripts, by series creators Heath Corson and Richie Keen are witty and clever, and the premise is, of course, nothing too original, but it’s one of those “just go with it” ideas. And it’s violent, too. You wouldn’t think it would be violent, but it’s surprisingly a lot more violent than I had expected. And did I mention it’s surprisingly really good? Nick Green is a top agent for the Us government – effective,...

Is it a gimmick or a true interactive programming innovation? Warner Bros Digital Distribution has launched what it claims to be the first “social series” from a Hollywood studio in Aim High. It’s an action comedy series that has McG among its producers, is directed by Diary Of A Wimpy Kid helmer Thor Freudenthal, and stars Twilight Saga’s Jackson Rathbone, Friday Night Lights’ Aimee Teegarden and Ally McBeal’s Greg Germann. It launches October 18. The plot: A handsome high school junior moonlights as a highly trained teenage government operative. The social networking innovation: Viewers can supply their Facebook profile information, with photos and text, and see it worked into scenes, from a photo appearing on a student body election poster to a name scrawled in graffiti on a wall. “Facebook is an increasingly influential destination for discovering and acquiring movie and television content,” Warner Bros Digital Distribution president...

Nick Green is a government operative, part of an elite, covert force of 64 highly trained U.S. military personnel. He's a deadly assassin with an appreciation for blondes and a dislike for their overprotective boyfriends. And he's a junior in high school. Green must carefully balance innate, 17-year-old hormones and teenage drama while executing his hits. So goes the premise for Aim High, a web series from executive producer Peter Murrietta, producer McG, creators Heath Corson and Richie Keen, and financiers Warner Premiere and Dolphin Entertainment. The program - which is one of three upcoming online originals from Warner Bros. short-form digital content arm - just announced its cast list will feature a number of actors popular with the teenybopper crowd. Jackson Rathbone (Jackson Hale in the Twilight Saga) will take on the role of Green. Aimee Teegarden (Julie Taylor on Friday Night Lights) will play the object of Green's affections,...

Exclusive: This a title that would certainly score big with the Comic-Con crowd. NBC has closed a deal for Zombies vs. Vampires, a spec script by Jake in Progress creator/executive producer Austin Winsberg. I hear NBC bought preemptively the project, produced by Warner Bros. TV and McG's studio-based Wonderland production banner. Zombies vs. Vampires is described as a "fun buddy cop procedural." It is set in a world where zombies are a part of society, controllable with medication. The show's two leads (one secretly a vampire) are cops assigned to a squad specifically formed to deal with "zombie crime". Winsberg, McG and Peter Johnson are executive producing. On the feature side, Winsberg, repped by UTA and Underground, recently sold a pitch to Warner Bros. for an animated feature about a peacock, which he is co-writing with Heath Corson. Wonderland is with Wme.

Screenwriters Austin Winsberg and Heath Corson are in final negotiations to sell their pitch for a new animated movie about a Peacock to Warner Bros. While there's not really anything else known about the project (we don't even know if it will be a CG movie, though I'd be amazed if it isn't), the fact that Warners are getting back into feature animation at all is noteworthy enough. The last Warner Bros. Feature Animation project was Joe Dante's Looney Tunes Back in Action, an underperforming, undervalued mess. It's less a coherent film than a cathedral to studio interference but the very many good bits (many of which are just two-seconds bits of funny business) pretty much keep it afloat. However, meant to re-establish the Looney Tunes characters a force in the cinema it did anything but, killing both the Feature Animation unit and stopping production of new Looney Tunes shorts.

Warner Bros. Studios saw success with 2006’s animated film Happy Feet, about a tap-dancing penguin. A year later, Sony Pictures Animation did decently well with another penguin flick, Surf’s Up.
It’s been a couple of years since those films, but it seems as though animators are going to see if they can see the same success with movies focused on other types of birds.
Fox Animation has the movie Rio, about a macaw, in the works, and Warner Bros. Studios recently announced they’re in negotiations to gain the rights to a movie about a peacock.
This move comes at a time when the box office is uncertain, with everything from high-budget comedies to low-budget horror films being number one over the last month, but the draw of animated films remains pretty consistent.

Fox has some abandonment issues.
The network has inked a first-look deal for "Living With Abandon," an independently produced single-camera comedy pilot.
Written by Richie Keen and Heath Corson ("Hooked") and directed by Keen, "Abandon" stars Todd Grinnell, Ed Quinn, Melissa Peterman, Rachel Specter and 14-year-old Nick Dodani as the members of an abandonment support group who suffer a blow when their therapist commits suicide. NEW YORK -- After the successful run of their short film Hooked at the HBO-organized U.S. Comedy Arts Festival last month in Aspen, director-writer-actor Richie Keen and writing partner Heath Corson have signed a TV script deal with 20th Century Fox TV's Fox 21 division for a half-hour comedy project. If the project goes to pilot, Keen is set to direct and also might co-star. The Fox 21 show will not be based on Hooked. While the two sides are looking at several ideas, they are focusing on a single-camera show idea titled Living With Abandon. The show idea revolves around an abandonment therapy group whose six very different misfit members find themselves in trouble when their therapist abandons them by killing himself. The members band together and vow to solve each other's issues one by one.
