Fresh off playing three characters across two seasons of the Chucky TV series, Devon Sawa has taken a lead role in the horror film Consumed, coming our way from The Butcher Brothers (a.k.a. director Mitchell Altieri and producer Phil Flores), the filmmaking duo behind The Night Watchmen, The Violent Kind, and The Hamiltons.
Courtney Halverson of Unfriended and St. Agatha and Mark Famiglietti of Hang Time and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines star in Consumed as Jay and Beth, a married couple taking a celebratory camping trip a year after Beth’s cancer remission, who find themselves trapped between a wild madman (Sawa) and a skin stealing monster.
David Calbert wrote the screenplay for the film, which was executive produced by Jeffrey Allard and XYZ Films. XYZ Films is also handling the world distribution sales and will be presenting the project to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Festival this month.

Horror stalwart Devon Sawa (“Chucky,” Final Destination, Idle Hands) delivered a memorable turn in 2020’s survival horror Hunter Hunter. He’s set to return to the wilderness once more with Consumed, the latest horror movie by The Butcher Brothers.
THR reports that Sawa will play a “wild madman” the central married couple will encounter on a camping trip. Of course, it’s not the madman that’s the most significant threat; there’s something else in the woods with them.

“General Hospital” plans to celebrate beloved cast member John Reilly and his iconic character Sean Donely with an episode dedicated to him this spring, Variety has learned exclusively.

Due to Covid-19, the ABC daytime drama has adjusted its schedule slightly, but both the writers’ room and production are still working weeks ahead and are currently prepping content for the end of the first quarter and start of the second quarter of 2021.

When a horror film subverts your expectations, that’s almost always a recipe for success. One would be easily forgiven for assuming that St. Agatha would traffic in the same sort of territory as last year’s awful The Nun. Instead, while still thoroughly being a fright flick, this effort goes in a whole other direction. It gets pretty ridiculous towards the end, but for large swarths of the picture, it focuses on something grittier, more intense, and much more based in reality. By no stretch is this one of the genre’s best efforts, but it does way more right than it does wrong. The movie is a horror experience, tinged with religious extremism, or so it seems. Taking place in a small Georgia town during the 1950’s, we follow a pregnant con woman on the run named Mary (Sabrina Kern). Seeking refuge, she ends up in a convent...

"There is no wrong or right in this place. You're just choosing not to see it." Signature Entertainment in the UK has debuted the official UK trailer for an indie horror thriller titled St. Agatha, the latest from horror director Darren Lynn Bousman. This new "twisted horror thriller" is said to push the boundaries of the "nunsploitation" genre, in a story set at a convent in Georgia. A pregnant young woman named Mary ends up there, seeking shelter only to be met with an unsettling and horrendous evil waiting on the other side. St. Agatha stars Sabrina Kern, Carolyn Hennesy, Courtney Halverson, Trin Miller, Lindsay Seim, Hannah Fierman and Seth Michaels. The footage from this trailer does look freaky, especially near the end when it goes all out crazy. Scary stuff. Here's the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Darren Lynn Bousman's St. Agatha, direct from YouTube: Set in the...

Unfriended is a horror film set entirely on someone's social media feeds that unfolds solely on one laptop screen. Whatever next? Attack of the Killer Emojis? Nightmare on Elm Street: Meme Warriors?
Such presumptuous cynicism about a film best described as 'streaming footage' is understandable given the abundance of abysmal 'found footage' horror flicks in recent times. Yet these fears are quashed by the skillful execution of a surprisingly fresh storytelling form. For Unfriended is innovative, scary and smart, capturing the neuroses and pressures on today's youth within the claustrophobic confines of the digital age. It does for Skype what The Blair Witch Project did for forests.

If you.ve ever seen a movie or TV show about Hollywood, chances are you know what a typical audition looks like. An actor gets called into a room where they must perform and try to impress a group that usually includes the project.s director, producers, and casting director. This wasn.t how things worked behind the scenes of the new horror movie Unfriended, however. Instead, the film . which is entirely set on a single computer screen . took a bit of inspiration from its stylistic approach, and not only had performers audition through webcams, but also set groups of them up in chats to test and see how well they could play off one another. I learned this interesting bit of trivia about Unfriended when I recently had the chance to interview stars Jacob Wysocki and Courtney Halverson, who play friends Ken Smith and Val Rommel, respectively, in the...

Unfriended is the most ingenuous ‘contained thriller’ to come along in some time. Sadly, it doesn’t work nearly as well as a horror film, relying on the same tired jump scares to punctuate its well-constructed suspense. Director Levan Gabriadze makes everything refreshingly barebones and tech-savvy for maximum realism. The timely nature of its subject matter, cyber-bullying, and its clever premise keep Unfriended entertaining, even if we don’t logoff completely satisfied.
One year ago, High School junior Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman) killed herself after an embarrassing YouTube video resulted in relentless hazing. Now, on the anniversary of her death, six of her friends are terrorized during a Skype chat by a malicious browser claiming to be Laura. If any of them logoff without Laura’s permission, they all die. It’s an elegant premise, but can it sustain our attention for 80 minutes?...

Face to Face: Gabriadze’s Topical Mutation of Technological Terror
How effectively chilling it is may be arguable. But there’s no denying that Levan Gabriadze’s English language debut Unfriended manages to be clever and somewhat topically meaningful in the age of cyberbullying on social media apps that have chained humans unwittingly to being constantly recorded, in some sense, at nearly every waking moment. Produced by Timur Bekmambetov, the film premiered as Cybernatural (too kitschy for the cool kids) at the 2014 Fantasia Film Festival, its fascination with and deliberate technological framing manage to meld found-footage aesthetics with the attention span of the real-time generation. Screenwriter Nelson Greave’s plot feels kind of similar to Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s creepy 2001 internet ghost film Pulse (which got a Us redo in 2006), but manages to keep an adept, impressive focus on all the action taking place from the perspective of one character’s home screen.

"Unfriended" is a very silly film. "Unfriended" is also a very clever film. For a very silly film. And that combination of clever and silly will most likely make "Unfriended" a small sensation of sorts among the audience it is clearly chasing. It made me laugh when a group of teens paused mid-conversation to explain to one another what a "troll" is, because every person in that conversation would 100% already know that word. It's clearly a nod to the idea that my parents might see "Unfriended," and they wouldn't know, so someone has to explain it. The makers of "Unfriended" shouldn't worry, though, because there's little or no chance my parents would ever see this movie. While this is being released by a studio, it's actually a pick-up, an independent film that started life on the festival circuit with the title "Cybernatural." Director Levan Gabriadze and writer Nelson Greaves were...

Los Angeles - According to Courtney Halverson, the second season of "True Detective" is still so "secretive" that "even I don't know what's going on." The actress was on hand in Hollywood this week to talk about her upcoming horror film "Unfriended" -- which plays out like it was shot entirely in a Skype chat room -- but she's also getting revved up for fans to see what this next season of the hit HBO show has in store. "It has been the most amazing ride. We're still filming, so I'm looking forward [to] everyone seeing it soon," she told HitFix. The internet has completely changed everything in our world. More than just providing us online shopping and quick research capabilities, it has altered the way we communicate with one another – both in terms of social media applications and general attitude. This is an incredibly important element in the new high-concept horror film Unfriended, which just premiered at SXSW, and while the movie isn’t by any means a game-changer for the genre, it does do a rather surprising job creating terror and scares from the most basic elements of the internet age. Unfolding its entire story on the screen of a single computer monitor of a girl named Blaire (Shelly Hennig), the film finds it’s protagonist with a group of friends (Moses Jacob Storm, Renee Olstead, Courtney Halverson, Matthew Bohrerr, Jacob Wysocki) chatting on Skype on the anniversary of the death of one of their high ...

This April revenge comes online in the new cyber-slasher film Unfriended. MTV launched the new trailer for the horror film recently (see above). And now, thanks to Universal Studios, the film finally has an official release date set for April 17, 2015.
Unfriended, you may recall, was originally called Cybernatural as it made its way through the genre festival circuit. The death-by-Skype tale of a group of friends being stalked online on the anniversary of their clasmate’s death looks to breath new life into the found footage genre and give everyone a reason to stay offline in the near future. For my money, this looks intriguing enough to give a look as something that could be a bit more enjoyable than the latest offerings in the field (I’m looking at you endless Paranormal Activity films).

“Online, your memories last forever… but so do your mistakes.” The deceptive safety of the screen between teens and the online world is shattered when a malevolent entity crashes a Skype session between six high school friends, forcing them to commit gruesome, self-inflicted acts of violence in front of the computer camera. Going viral gets vicious in Unfriended, as shown in the film’s newly released trailer and poster.
“While video chatting one night, six high school friends receive a Skype message from a classmate who killed herself exactly one year ago. At first they think it’s a prank, but when the girl starts revealing the friends’ darkest secrets, they realize they are dealing with something out of this world, something that wants them dead.”

Although they don't take the threat seriously at first, they soon discover how much power this online nuisance holds over them - with bloody consequences.

Being at the cutting edge of technology in film is a recipe from which filmmakers and audiences alike can reap extraordinary benefits. Be it via the means utilized by the people behind the project to create their motion picture or a fresh idea developed within the story itself that sparks the imagination of an attentive viewer, modern technology (an odd term considering that technology is continuously evolving) can be a powerful tool in storytelling. In other examples filmmakers will adapt new gizmos that have already gained traction in the public sphere to help spruce up their tale. Note: if you saw Leprechaun's Revenge on Syfy earlier this year then you've already seen Red Clover. It just has a new title and some decent gore tossed back in.
The Syfy Channel churns out so many low-budget movies that it's really easy to lose track of them all -- and it's particularly difficult to recall the titles of the ones that aren't 100% disposable junkpiles suitable only for late-night inebriated visitations. Budget is the key problem with most of the Syfy movie fare, but sometimes (no, frequently) a low budget is what inspires fun-loving filmmakers to get a little more creative. That's not to say that their recent release Red Clover (aka Leprechaun's Revenge, although it bears no relation to the "official" Leprechaun franchise) is any sort of minor masterpiece -- but, like early Syfy releases Scream of the Banshee, Zombie Apocalypse, High Plains Invaders, and Frankenfish, it finds a...

Oh boy, you’re going to need a lot more than the “luck of the Irish” to make it through Red Clover – maybe some Irish whiskey, Irish coffee, or a whole slew of Irish car bombs? The sillier of a mood you’re in for this Celtic horror film the better, because you’re going to have to make your own fun with this one. Suffering from almost every horror cliché in the book, and filled with distractingly laughable performances, director Drew Daywalt’s Leprechaun revival is a curse of its own, haunting viewers with a legend better left buried.
Karen O’Hara (Courtney Halverson) is out hunting with her grandfather (William Devane) when she stumbles upon a bright red four-leaf clover, which she picks out of curiosity – bad idea. Right after plucking the oddly colored clover, a fawn-like being emerges from the ground, and Karen finds a strange marking on her hand.
