Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, March 6 (Ians) Akshay Bhatia did not win the Puerto Rico Open as his quest for a maiden PGA Tour title fell just short. Yet the second place earned him a special Temporary Membership, which allows him to accept unlimited sponsor exemptions for the remainder of the 2022-23 Tour season.
Colombian rookie Nico Echavarria finished with a 4-under 68 for a two-shot victory in the Puerto Rico Open for his first PGA Tour title. He seemed to move into a solid position with two straight birdies on the back nine and held on for a maiden triumph. After missing four cuts in a row, he tied the tournament record at 21-under 267.
Bhatia had a win last year on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he plays regularly, closed with a 65 to finish alone in second.
Bhatia finished two back of Echavarria, but collected enough non-member FedExCup points to secure Special Temporary Membership.

Niña Niño Films’ “Outsider Girls” (“Las Demás”), the debut feature of rising Chilean talent Alexandra Hyland, which world premieres in the Bright Future sidebar of Intl. Film Festival Rotterdam, has bowed its trailer exclusively with Variety.
Hyland was named one of Variety’s Five Chilean Talents to Watch in 2018. Her feature debut follows best friends Gaby (played by Alicia Luz Rodriguez) and Rafa (Nicole Sazo), two college girls whose pink-hued oasis is disrupted when Rafa gets pregnant after a night of debauchery. Given Chile’s ultra-conservative society, abortion is illegal except in extreme cases. They set out to earn enough to pay for the pricey abortion pills through a series of oddball part-time jobs, straining their friendship in the process.
Produced by Maltrato Films and Niña Niño Films, the film reflects one of the burning issues in Chilean society where its increasingly emancipated women have demanded an easing of restrictions on abortion.

With human justice absent in the awful political bloodshed in Central America, Guatemalan director Jayro Bustamente finds payback in cinematic fantasy. A crooked government exonerates a genocidal general, but his estate is besieged around the clock by Mayan-Ixil Indio protesters. Into the house comes a new maid — a tiny young woman who may nevertheless wield supernatural powers. The moody art-horror show is as delicate as The Innocents or a Val Lewton chiller — horror once again becomes an excellent means to address political evil. Slow and deliberate, it reverberates with horror history without copying the classics.

Charlotte (North Carolina), Sep 26 (Ians) Korea’s Si Woo Kim, Sungjae Im and K.H Lee brilliantly produced impressive wins in the Singles session at the Presidents Cup on Sunday as a battling International Team endured a tough 17.5 – 12.5 defeat to the United States Team.
A fourth Korean, the young sensation Tom Kim lost to Max Homa right at the end, after earlier securing two points for his team and winning the hearts of the crowds.
Si Woo Kim produced a stunning 1-up victory over World No. 7 Justin Thomas in the top match at Quail Hollow Club and his success was emulated by Im’s 1-up triumph over Cameron Young and Lee’s 3 and 1 domination of Billy Horschel.
Another great result for the Internationals, when Colombian Sebastian Munoz beat World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler 2 and 1.
Yet, the heroics failed to prevent another American triumph in the Presidents Cup as Xander Schauffele delivered the...

Quail Hollow (USA), Sep 25 (Ians) The International Team dubbed as the underdogs and a pushover for the strong United States team have put up a fine fight. While the first two sessions saw them fight but lose out 1-4 and then again 1-4, they did a much better job of scoring in the third and fourth sessions.
Led by the baby-faced Kim Joohyung also called Tom Kim, because of his childhood love for toy trains, and the veteran Aussie Adam Scott, the Internationals tied the US 2-2 in the Round 3 Foursomes and then won the Round Four Fourball 3-1. Kim and Scott won both their matches, in the morning and afternoon sessions on the busy third day.
The score now stands 11-7, way better than what it was 8-2 after first two sessions. The 12 singles will be played on Sunday (late night in India).

Charlotte (North Carolina), Sep 21 (Ians) Veteran star Adam Scott has touted rookie Tom Kim as the International Team’s “little secret weapon” as they look to upset the odds against a power-packed United States in the Presidents Cup which begins on Thursday.
The 42-year-old Scott, who is making a record 10th appearance at Quail Hollow Club but has yet to be on a winning team, thinks the young Korean could be one of the stars this week.
“I think young enthusiasm, and he’s a confident young kid,” Scott said about the 20-year-old, who is one of four record Koreans on the team.
“Tom could be our little secret weapon. He’s won on the PGA Tour, and this is the next challenge in his career. He’s obviously good enough to do it on the big stage. This is his first real opportunity.

Folklorists will tell you that la llorona is a ghostly figure said to be a crying mother doomed to grieve for her drowned, dead offspring in perpetuity, and it takes a while to figure out how the Latin American legend fits into Jayro Bustamante’s extraordinary, eerie-as-hell horror movie. (It streams on Shudder starting August 6th.) Is the weeping spirit being summoned by Carmen (Margarita Kenéfic), the matronly head of a household who we meet, via a slow, Kubrickian zoom out — the first of many — in the middle of a coven-like ritual?...
