Matthew Broderick has signed on to a comedy pilot at NBC, marking his first regular role in a TV series.
Broderick will star in a show called "Beach Lane," the showbiz trade papers report. The show would follow his character, a well-known author who's hired to run a small newspaper in the Hamptons by the paper's owner, the scion of a wealthy family.
"NewsRadio" creator Paul Simms is writing the pilot and will executive produce with "Saturday Night Live" guru Lorne Michaels and Marci Klein.
Broderick guest-starred on "30 Rock" in 2008 and has starred in several TV movies (most recently "The Music Man" on ABC in 2003), but "Beach Lane" would be his first full-time commitment to a TV series.
Other pilot news:
- CBS has greenlit a pair of drama pilots, one from "Sopranos" veterans Mitchell Green and Robin Burgess and one from "ER" and "Souhtland" exec producer John Wells.
