Euphoria Season 3 is coming — just not soon. In a new statement on Monday, HBO revealed that while creator Sam Levinson was still “committed” to making a third season of the hit drama, any projected premiere dates have been postponed. Variety reported that scripts for Season Three are still being written.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson told the outlet. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
Delays seem to be part of Euphoria‘s DNA.

HBO was built on the back of showrunners such as David Chase, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and Jesse Armstrong but is now facing a new dilemma involving directors.
Drama boss Francesca Orsi lifted the lid on the “consistent tussle” over who is charge of a series as more and more “esteemed” directors move into television.
Orsi, speaking at the Series Mania event in France alongside Jane Tranter, boss of Doctor Who producer Bad Wolf, said that high-profile directing talent want to be the “final arbiter” on the network’s originals.
“One point that’s been very tricky for us is esteemed directors coming in and wanting to be showrunners and the final arbiter of a project, when HBO has been built on the backs of writers and our showrunners,” she said.
She added that film directors are used to complete control.

"She helmed True Detective: Night Country from start to finish, never once faltering from her own commendable vision, and inspiring us with her resilience both on the page and behind the camera," Orsi added.
“Alongside Jodie [Foster] and Kali [Reis]’ impeccable performances, she’s made this installation of the franchise a massive success, we are so lucky to have her as part of our family.”

Issa López can't stop winning.
Season 4 of the hit HBO series "True Detective" was a massive risk, with show creator Nic Pizzolatto stepping back after three seasons to collect executive producer checks and whine on Instagram, while López took the series into a completely different direction with "Night Country" and navigated her predecessor's pettiness with the utmost grace. The risk paid off, big time, as "Night Country" became the most-watched season of the series yet, as well as the highest-rated on Rotten Tomatoes. So it's no surprise that HBO has wisely decided to renew the acclaimed drama for a fifth installment, with López returning for a new season under a multiyear overall deal with the company. Meaning, she will not only create season 5 of "True Detective," but she will also provide additional projects exclusive to HBO and the Max streaming platform. Audiences will have to wait a little bit longer to check into “The White Lotus” Season 3.
The third installment of the Emmy-winning HBO anthology series will arrive in 2025, according to chief content officer Casey Bloys.
“‘White Lotus’ Season 3 probably would have been in ’24, that’s pushing to ’25,” Bloys said during a press conference. “It’s shows that we’ve had on the runway and we’re in the middle of shooting, obviously.”
Bloys continued with further updates, “‘Penguin’ would have been in the spring, so we’ve had to adjust across the board. The ‘It’ prequel we’re working on…’Welcome to Derry’ — we had that that scheduled previously for Halloween of ’24. That’s likely pushing into ’25.”
Pending the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike, “Welcome to Derry” will return to production in spring of 2024. “The Last of Us” Season 2 will shoot then as well.
“The White Lotus” Season 3 will be set in Thailand.

HBO chief Casey Bloys faced the critics — and the music — on Thursday.
The November 2 presentation of HBO and Max’s 2024 content slates was supposed to be a celebration of the next year in prestige TV. The press event, well-attended by IndieWire, was overshadowed by a scandal — one both small in stature and in its pettiness.
As first reported by Rolling Stone on Wednesday, November 1, Bloys has directed lower-level staff to create a fake Twitter account to respond harshly to TV critics who posted negative reviews about HBO shows. It happened on at least six occasions.
Bloys addressed the story on Thursday. It “was a very, very dumb idea,” he said — and then Bloys attempted to explain his “mindset” at the time.

It’s not easy to deal with a negative review. But while most people shrug it off and move forward, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys employed a…unique approach. On multiple occasions, Bloys orchestrated the use of fake accounts to troll the critics on Twitter.
Between June 2020 and April 2021, as first reported by Rolling Stone, Bloys and his SVP of drama programming Kathleen McCaffrey repeatedly discussed using burner accounts to directly combat critics of their shows on Twitter. According to the publication, there were at least six different text-message exchanges between the two executives that involved using a fake Twitter account to harshly respond to TV critics who gave negative reviews to HBO shows. The messages were reviewed and verified via their metadata.

Everything you need to know to decide whether you’ll watch True Detective: Night Country lies in this sentence from the new series’ new teaser: “We’ve got five bodies frozen into a giant block of flesh, and no answers.” Season Four of the anthology series will premiere on Max on Jan. 14 (y’know, peak bodyberg time.)
The clip sets an ominous tone, opening with Detective Evangeline Navarro (played by Kali Reis) saying that sometimes she wishes she could disappear. “This is Alaska,” says Jodie Foster’s character Detective Liz Danvers.

Zendaya wants to put the Rue in ruthless in her next role.
The “Euphoria” Emmy winner and star of next year’s “Challengers” and “Dune: Part Two” said during a video for Elle magazine, below, that she hopes to channel an evil character for her next role.
“I would love to play a villain of sorts,” Zendaya said. “Tap into that evil, supervillain vibe. Whatever that manifests in…”
The “Spider-Man: No Way Home” actress added, “I don’t think necessarily in a superhero sense but in an emotional sense. I feel like I usually play the good guy, so I’d like to play the bad guy.”
Also on the list of Zendaya’s goals: directing. The star previously announced that she was actually supposed to helm “Euphoria” Season 2, Episode 6, titled “A Thousand Little Trees of Blood,” but she didn’t have enough time to prepare as she was also acting in the episode.

If you thought Euphoria was dark, wait until you see Euphoria Season 3 -- whenever that may be.
In an interview with Elle, series creator Sam Levinson said that fans should expect the upcoming season to be like a "film noir."
Zendaya's Rue will, once again, be front and center.
We'll follow Rue as she "explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world."
Zendaya spoke as part of the same interview, which was conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The actress said she's attracted to challenging roles but feels she can't play Rue's high school years forever.
"From a character perspective, I want to find things that will push me," Zendaya said.
"As I get older, you know, I can't play a teenager for the rest of my life."
Despite Euphoria Season 2 wrapping in February 2022, a premiere date for the third season is still a long way off.

There will be no more bombshells in Los Angeles' courtrooms.
Deadline reported that HBO has opted not to renew Perry Mason for a third season.

HBO's Perry Mason Season 2 wrapped last month, and fans are waiting to learn whether the show will secure a renewal from the premium cabler.
It's rare for HBO not to renew shows as they are airing, so there have been concerns from the show's passionate fans about the lack of pickup.
Francesca Orsi, HBO's head of drama, opened up to Deadline about the show's fate and other HBO dramas.

"We're just assessing various shows, what more we need to be making, what more we can make, what more we have, the return in life of a series."
"Of course, each show has a job to do, given the price tag that we give to it, and there's a viewership component, and there's a critical response element to it and of course,...

"We're just assessing various shows, what more we need to be making, what more we can make, what more we have, the return in life of a series."
"Of course, each show has a job to do, given the price tag that we give to it, and there's a viewership component, and there's a critical response element to it and of course,...

In a new interview with Deadline, HBO drama boss Francesca Orci said it was highly unlikely “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong will go forward with any spin-offs following the series finale on Sunday.
“I’ll never say never but my instinct and based on a number of conversations about the evolution of ‘Succession’ and these characters, at this stage, there is no intention of spinning any one character off,” Orsi said. “Jesse, should he do a series again, I think it will be entirely original. Whether it’s based on IP or not, I’m not sure, but it will be a new show, a new idea entirely.”
Orci said while her current working relationship with Armstrong has come to an end, she’s excited to collaborate with him again in the future.
“There is maybe sadness in that I don’t have the opportunity to build something with him — at least not for now.

The second season of HBO’s Euphoria concluded more than a year ago, but fans will have to wait longer than expected for season 3.
HBO’s Head of Drama Francesca Orsi told Deadline that Euphoria season 3 is one of many shows impacted by the WGA strike and may not debut until 2025. “Euphoria is one of those that we had begun writing in tandem with post-production on Idol but at this point, we don’t have countless scripts,” Orsi said. “We can’t start shooting, so the delivery of that show — ideally in 2025 — will be determined on when we can pick back up with Sam [Levinson], who at this point is all pencils down and just finishing posts on Idol.“
Euphoria is far from the only HBO series affected by the strike, although Orsi says that it’s still “too early to tell” exactly how previously announced scheduling plans will change. “We...

The only thing that may give those interminable, seemingly never-ending four years of high school a run for their money is the extremely long wait times in between seasons of Euphoria. After a three-year gap between its first and second seasons, the show is expected to endure another long delay and possibly not return until 2025.
HBO’s head of drama, Francesca Orsi, revealed the likely timetable in a new interview with Deadline. She cited several factors for the delay, including the busy schedule of the show’s star Zendaya, creator...

Fans of HBO’s “Euphoria” won’t be left too euphoric over the latest news to come out from the premium cabler.
Speaking with Deadline, HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi said that amid productions getting repeatedly halted by the ongoing WGA strike and creator Sam Levinson’s “The Idol” duties, Season 3 of the Emmy winner likely won’t air until 2025. This news comes after various reports that the series would resume shooting in summer 2023. “Euphoria” has been off the air since Season 2 concluded in February 2022. Zendaya has won two Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series Emmys for her role.

Fans of HBO's "The Last of Us" need to count the days until the arrival of the show's second season, as it sounds like it's going to be a very long wait. We're talking two years from now kind of long. So claimed HBO's head of drama Francesca Orsi, who has revealed that the show isn't expected to return until 2025. And that's assuming that the ongoing writers' strike (which has already delayed many productions) doesn't stretch on for months on end. If that happens? The wait could be even longer.
Orsi recently sat down with the folks at Deadline for a wide-ranging interview. During the conversation, the subject of "The Last of Us" season 2 came up, with the executive saying, "We were looking at 'The Last Of Us' for some time in 2025." Notice the word "were" in there, which might be doing a lot of work. Speaking further about the...

Fans of Euphoria will have a lot longer to ponder the possibilities:
The HBO hit's third season has been postponed to 2025 -- at the earliest.
Wow, right?
When HBO renewed Euphoria for Season 3 in early 2022, fans were livid when it was revealed the new episodes were on track for a 2024 bow.
Now, we'll be waiting a lot longer.
While many shows are being delayed due to the writers' strike, various factors are at play here.
Zendaya is one of the most in-demand actresses, with many projects in the pipeline.
Series creator Sam Levinson has also been laser-focused on bringing The Idol to life.
The long-delayed drama finally sees the light of day on HBO this summer.

The Writers Guild of America put its pencils — or more realistically, laptops — down on May 1, starting a strike that continues to keep some studio lots empty. Writers are demanding new pay and residual structures, arguing that streaming has changed everything about the way they’re compensated in the past 10-15 years.
Warner Bros. Discovery made few friends among the writing community last year when it began purging content from its streaming platform HBO Max and even shutting down projects that were already started or nearing completion. But those days are over, or so the company says, and Wbd’s newly-launched streaming platform Max will continue to be a repository for the prestige TV HBO has become best-known for.

Bella Ramsey, star of the HBO TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us (read our review Here) said a couple months ago that The Last of Us season 2 probably won’t start airing until late 2024 or early 2025. Now HBO Drama Chief Francesca Orsi has confirmed to Deadline that the network is aiming for a 2025 premiere.
While speaking to Deadline about the writers strike and the fact that it’s too early to tell if the strike will impact HBO’s scheduling plans, Orsi said, “We were looking at The Last Of Us for sometime in 2025.” So even if the writers strike hadn’t happened, The Last of Us season 2 would still be well off in the distance.
When the new season does arrive, fans can expect to see more, bigger, and more elaborate creature action in it. Orsi added “there will be a couple of new pieces of casting,...

It’s pencils down and viewers bummed. HBO’s Euphoria will have an even longer break between Seasons 2 and 3 than it did between Seasons 1 and 2, our sister site Deadline reports. Between the writers’ strike, series creator Sam Levinson’s commitment to The Idol and in-demand star Zendaya’s busy schedule, Euphoria, which aired its sophomore season finale in 2022, won’t return until 2025 — at the earliest.

Viewers will be spending less time with Rhaenyra and her dragons on House of the Dragon Season 2.
That news was revealed earlier this year when it was reported that the Game of Thrones spinoff's sophomore run would come in at eight episodes, down from the planned 10-episode run.
A definite answer to why the decision was made was not revealed at the time.
In a new interview with Deadline, HBO's EVP and Head of Drama, Francesca Orsi, revealed the decision was driven by the middle of the season "treading water."
"There was some question about the narrative shape of Season 2," Orsi told the outlet.
"We were developing it with Ryan Condal and [EP] Sara Hess, and we realized that we were sort of treading water narratively in the middle of the season," Orsi said.
"So it just felt much more rigorous, more urgent emotional arc for our characters if we compressed the season,...

HBO’s video game-based horror series “The Last of Us” kicked off with massive success this year, but when can you expect Season 2 to bring Ellie and Joel back to HBO?
At the absolute earliest, HBO is currently looking at “some time in 2025” as the target date for “The Last of Us” Season 2 to premiere, but that’s all dependent on how the WGA strike plays out in the coming months. Speaking with Deadline, HBO’s Francesca Orsi notes that everything is up in the air while writers continue to battle studios and streamers for fair wages.
Orsi explains, “We were looking at The Last of Us for some time in 2025. And The White Lotus was ideally looking to go in 2024, but there’s some question about timing of the strike.”

Another brand-defining, Best Drama Emmy-winning HBO series is coming to an end this Sunday when Succession airs its finale. Just like when each of its esteemed predecessors, The Sopranos and Game Of Thrones, ended, there is the inevitable succession question about what comes next.
This time, HBO’s bench is stacked with strong reinforcements in freshmen The Last Of Us and House of the Dragon and sophomore The White Lotus for what could be HBO’s strongest Emmy showing ever in the drama categories with four major Outstanding Drama Series contenders.
They are all overseen by HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi, a 20-year network veteran and one of HBO & Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys’ top lieutenants. She dismisses the notion that HBO may be adrift with Succession coming to an end.

Spoiler Alert: This interview discusses gargantuan plot developments in “Connor’s Wedding,” Season 4, Episode 3 of “Succession,” now streaming on HBO Max.
Many devotees of “Succession” assumed that sometime during its final season, the show’s patriarch Logan Roy — a businessman of unparalleled brilliance, and a churlish father, who loves his children (despite all evidence to the contrary) — would die. After all, Logan, played by Brian Cox, had a stroke in the 2018 series premiere of HBO’s Emmy-winning drama, and his ill-health has been an ongoing concern.
But Logan dying in Episode 3?! A total shock to “Succession” nation.
“Connor’s Wedding,” written by “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong, and directed by executive producer Mark Mylod, has two main settings: a boat on which Connor Roy (Alan Ruck) and his siblings Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Shiv (Sarah Snook) are gathered, and the Waystar Royco plane, where Logan is flying with his executive team to Sweden,...
