Charles W. Newton
- Additional Crew
CHARLES W. NEWTON brings a four-decade railroad safety and operations management career to Rail Transportation Management Specialists (RTMS) as Assistant Rail Coordinator. Most recently, Newton worked as assistant railroad coordinator on 3 railroad operations scenes in episodes on ABC limited series Women of the Movement.
Newton got to know railroading in the late 1970s from the cab of a locomotive as a train service road brakeman, Conductor and Engineer. His passion for safety and operations led to career promotions resulting in successively higher management posts.
Charlie Newton's knowledge created opportunities to develop training programs for Engineers and Conductors. Charlie's hard-won experience also led him to the classroom as an instructor for railroad Engineer training programs. It was under the guidance of Charles Newton where many of today's best engineers learned how to handle two-mile long 15,000 ton trains!
Following the rule that educators publish, Charlie created vital manuals and books covering workplace safety, locomotive and train operations, car and locomotive inspections, and air brake systems to supplement his field and classroom efforts. His career created a path to legendary railroads: Delaware & Hudson; Providence & Worcester; Wisconsin Central; Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern; and Canadian Pacific. Along the way, he held titles like Manager - Training, Rules & Operating Practices, Road Foreman of Engines, and Director of Rules & Safety.
Newton's safety oversight and accident investigation skills included seven years of work and collaboration with Rail Sciences of Atlanta, a leading rail industry technical services and accident investigation firm. Another accomplishment that makes Charles Newton a valuable asset to our team is his tenure at the U.S. Federal Railroad Administration as a Hazardous Materials Safety Inspector. This allows him to contribute when scripts call for award-winning special effects.
Newton brings to RTMS priceless expertise in planning and executing complex for-camera rail operations and location safety supervision. Charlie also handles passenger/freight car and locomotive equipment scouting and railroad location evaluations.
