Biharilal Varma was born in 1905 as Biharilal Chawla in the Punjab Region of British India. He was one of the founders of production and distribution company Varma Films, best known for Sohag Raat (1948), Patanga (1949) and Badal (1951). He was married to Leelavanti, with whom he had five sons (Kuldip, Rajendra, Kishanlal, Satish & Ashok) and three daughters (Sudesh, Kamlesh & Sushma). He died in 1960 in Bombay, India.
