Spencer Harvey(III)

Spencer Harvey is GLAAD's Communications Manager, helping to lead communications and media relations for GLAAD's various programs, events, and initiatives, including the GLAAD Media Awards, Spirit Day, GLAAD Gala San Francisco, Pride partnerships, and more. Spencer also serves as an Associate Producer for the GLAAD Media Awards. From 2019 to early 2021, Spencer served as GLAAD's Communications & Campaigns Coordinator.
In 2020, Spencer founded GLAAD's inaugural 20 Under 20 list, spotlighting the young LGBTQ changemakers who are accelerating LGBTQ acceptance and visibility through media and activism. He has also played a pivotal role in other GLAAD campaigns, including the organization's campaign to urge the FDA to end its ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, and other LGBTQ people. Spencer was also a producer on GLAAD & BuzzFeed's "Drive the Vote" video series, which interviewed LGBTQ people in four battleground states about the 2020 election, why they were planning to vote, and what issues matter most to them. The series was nominated for a Webby Award in 2021.
In 2021, Spencer was chosen as one of Ragan & PR Daily's Rising Star Honorees, Class of 2021. The honor recognizes the top communications professionals under 30 years old for their ambitious, engaging, and innovative communications work.
In May 2019, Spencer graduated from New York University with a Master of Science in Global Affairs, specializing in Global Gender Studies with an LGBTQ research focus. During his time at NYU, Spencer conducted a field research study in the United Arab Emirates, where he analyzed the intersection between anti-LGBTQ laws and the expression of identity and sexuality for gay men living in the country. Upon graduating, his thesis, titled "The Politics of Getting Political: How News Media Outlets Portray Powerful Female Celebrities Who Use Their Platform for Political Purposes," was one of five theses to be honored with Distinction. In 2017, Spencer received a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Political Science & Law from the University of Ottawa in Canada.
Before joining GLAAD, Spencer worked as a communications intern for various organizations, including the Rockefeller Foundation and UNDP.
