Mumbai, June 22 (Ians) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) on Thursday invited fresh applications to fill one vacant position in the Men’s Selection Committee, setting June 30 as the deadline for submission of the same.
The move comes after Chetan Sharma resigned in February as the chief selector, following a sting operation conducted by a TV news channel, where he shared internal information about the team and selection process. It was Sharma’s second term as chairman of selectors which ended in less than two months, after taking charge in January this year.
With Sharma’s resignation, the selection committee was reduced to four functioning members, with Shiv Sunder Das taking charge as interim chief selector working alongside Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath.
The Bcci said the qualification and experience criteria for applicants is they must have played at least seven Tests or 30 first-class matches,...

Writer-director Zubie Saurabh Sengupta, who started his career in advertising and created press and film campaigns for leading brands, has recently directed a film titled ‘In The Month of July’ that stars veteran actor Kanwaljit Singh, Shadab Khan, Shamim Akbarali, Aditya Ranvijay Siddhu, Donal Bist, Ranjeet Jha, Richard Joel, Rhea and Sana.
The film is a feel-good film, placed in a small hill-station in Himachal Pradesh and is about a lonely aged man and a much younger forlorn woman locked together in a redundant and loveless marriage, until an outsider, a young man, enters their lives and turns the pages. Mumbai, Feb 23: It was great to spot cricketer-turned-actor Salil Ankola on the screen once again, in the recent Vidyut Jammwal-starrer, The Power. The former Indian fast bowler may be 52, but he looks not a day older than mid-thirties, essaying a hunky bodyguard to one of the key characters in the Mahesh Manjrekar film.
The role may have been a short one, but it somehow defines Ankola's career - in showbiz as well as cricket. He is always been around and you can never quite ignore his towering persona.
Right now, Ankola is Chairman of the Senior Selection Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association. It is a job he was appointed to in December and he is happy to have "returned to the game after a long time".
"I have been appointed about two and a half months back now. I was appointed on 16th of December. It feels good...

New Delhi, Nov 15 (Ians) It was on November 15, 1989, when legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar made his debut in international cricket and went on to "inspire billions" across the globe with his batting skills.
Tendulkar, 16, made his international debut in a Test match between India and Pakistan that was played at the National Stadium in Karachi. Along with Tendulkar, Salil Ankola also made his Test debut for India.
The right-handed batsman managed just 15 runs in his debut innings before he was castled by Waqar Younis, who was also making his international debut. Tendulkar, however, did not get to bat again in the Test match which ended in a draw.
Coincidently, on November 15, 2013, Tendulkar went out to bat for the last time in international cricket during a Test match against the West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In his last international innings, Tendulkar managed 74 runs before he became the priced scalp of Narsingh Deonarine.
