Ventana Sur: To dub in English or not to dub and the challenges of day-and-date releasing were among the topics sales agents addressed in Buenos Aires on December 2.
Organised under the auspices of the Blood Window genre sidebar, session participants advised the audience of Latin American filmmakers to conduct due diligence when selecting a sales agent, resist the allure of high up-front offers and hold on to digital rights.
Considering the setting and the various nationalities of the speakers, thoughts turned inevitably to the business of maximising a film’s global appeal.
London-based Jinga Films managing director Rosana Coutinho recounted how Canadian labs approached her about dubbing Alejandro Hidalgo’s Venezuelan smash The House At The End Of Time.
“I don’t want to prostitute your ideas but there is a difficulty in the market,” said Coutinho. ” I can close a deal tomorrow on [The House At The End Of Time] if I have an English dub, but I don’t...

So let's see... Karolina Wydra scores a role as a vampire on HBO's "True Blood," and now her flick from the UK entitled After nets Stateside distribution from Mongrel Media. Happy coincidence? Nope! According to Jinga Film's Rosana Coutinho, interest in the movie surged on the back of Wydra’s casting.
After (review) comes to us from writer/director Ryan Smith and stars Steven Strait (10 Million Years BC), Karolina Wydra (“House”), and Sandra Lafferty (The Hunger Games).
Synopsis
Two bus crash survivors awake in hospital to discover they are the only people left alive. As a dark fog advances toward their town, they form an unlikely alliance to unravel the truth behind their isolation and escape the ravenous creatures concealed within the mist.

Back in September we learned that Darklands, the debut feature of director Julian Richards (The Last Horror Movie), will finally be released on November 20th; and a new clip from the occult shocker has arrived!
Richland says the clip was inspired by a pagan ritual he attended in Scotland whilst researching the screenplay. The event, known as The Beltane Fire, takes place in Edinburgh on April 30th, which is an important date in the pagan calender celebrating the coming of spring.
"Rituals such as Beltane (Walpurgis Night) and Samhain (Halloween) are based around the seasons and celebrate the success or failure of the harvest," explains Richards. "Records suggest that in the event of a bad harvest human sacrifices were made, but some historians believe this to be a myth propagated by Roman imperialists to portray themselves as a civilizing force."

Thought to be lost, or at least tied up in legal limbo, Darklands, the debut feature of director Julian Richards (The Last Horror Movie), will finally be released in the Us and Canada by Mvd Distribution with a street date set for November 20th, 2012.
From the Press Release:
Darklands, which has been cited by UK critics as laying the foundation of the British horror revival, follows a newspaper reporter investigating the death of a steelworker killed in an industrial accident who uncovers a conspiracy involving paganism, witchcraft and human sacrifice. Starring Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger), Jon Finch (Frenzy) and Rowena King (Wild Saragossa Sea), Darklands is frequently compared to Robin Hardy’s 1970’s cult classic The Wicker Man, but the writer/director also acknowledges a debt to Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’S Baby.
