The year 2016, now in its final days, has been kind to very few, and the general population has not been shy about voicing their outrage over the whirlwind of bad news that has been dumped on us over the past 363 days.
But there have been some rays of light among the storm clouds, and many of these beams have fallen upon animals, making the bright spots even brighter. To help get you through these final moments of 2016, and also allow you a chance to look back at the year with some positive feelings, we have rounded up 16 feel good and furry stories.

Synopsis:
Octal is described as a “curated catalog of comic pitch packets”. What does that mean exactly? Well it’s a nifty way to say “hey here are pitch packets put together for publishers (Image, Marvel, DC, Idw, etc) to take a look at”. As described by series editor Mike Schneider (Known for his Steampunk Originals Anthology series at Arcana comics), what Octal is doing is getting together various publisher submission requirements, and with editor feedback creating a template for creators to follow so they can appease the most amount of publishers with one single pitch. While this pitch packet is currently in circulation amongst publishers (with story Sane6 already picked up for a summer release), I will...

14 years ago, Universal Pictures was banking on the re-invention of one of its top movie franchises becoming its biggest hit of the summer. The studio handed one of its greatest money-making franchises to a visionary director and tasked him with breathing new life into a sagging franchise. This director would need to create a movie that winked at its past, while also expanding its world beyond its memorable but somewhat limiting premise. Sound familiar?
Long before Jurassic World there was Jurassic Park III, a 2001 movie that has largely been swept under the rug by fans of the blockbuster film series. Pinpointing exactly why Jurassic Park III is so often ignored is difficult. When Jurassic Park III is referenced in the public discourse, it's often unfavourably compared to the original Jurassic Park or disregarded as being as bad or worse than The Lost World. Make no mistake - Jurassic Park III is much,...

With the upcoming release of Warner Bros.’ The Green Lantern this Friday, I think it’s fair to say the comic book movie has become almost annoyingly ubiquitous over the past few years – not surprising given the sub-genre’s mostly sturdy record at the box-office.
Even so, it’ll probably be a long, long time before we ever see a big-budget Hollywood film depicting the exploits of a gay superhero – a fact that of course can’t stop us from thinking about it. Following from that, below I’ve put together a list of twelve queer crusaders who I’d like to see fighting the forces of evil on the big screen, along with my fantasy casting choices for each.
Obsidian (DC)
Fantasy Casting: Luke Macfarlane
Speaking of the Green Lantern, DC’s famed superhero actually has a lesser-known crime-fighting son named Todd Rice, who goes by the superhero alias Obsidian,...

Fallout: New Vegas's post-apocalyptic landscape can appear a rather uninviting place to spend an afternoon upon first glance. After all, the wasteland surrounding the city formerly known as Las Vegas is -- thanks to the efforts of superpowers to wipe each other from the face of the earth some 200 years before -- a place prevalent with skin-stripping radiation, scorching hot weather, scorpions the size of your head, wolves the size of Pavarotti, and cannibals only too willing to lodge a knife in your chest and their teeth in your cranium.
But, to focus only on these petty negatives is to miss the benefits abounding in its vision of the future. If we would but only take a step back, and remove our negative heads (not literally, and without the help of a cannibal), then we would recognise the many improvements 2281 holds over 2010...

The 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival is set to run June 17-27 in a brand new location. Oh, it’s still in L.A, but it’s moving across town, from Westwood — where it’s been held the past few years — all the way over to Downtown.
The main “hub” for the fest will be the new L.A. Live complex, but there will also be screenings at other locations, such as the Downtown Independent and Redcat theaters. The city is really trying to build downtown up into a major arts and culture hub, so the festival moving there fits in with that agenda. Film Independent, the organization that runs Laff, also runs the annual Independent Spirit Awards, an event that also moved downtown — from Santa Monica — this year.
On Bad Lit, I tend to like to put up festival lineups that include days and times of screenings. However, since I...
