Bruce Brown, director of the classic surfing film The Endless Summer, has died. He was 80.
The general manager of Brown's film company Alex Mecl says Brown died Sunday in Santa Barbara, California, of natural causes.
Brown and his 1966 documentary The Endless Summer created the modern image of surfers as spiritual seekers on a quest, rather than thugs or buffoons.
And, along with the Beach Boys, he took surfing from a quirky hobby to a fundamental part of American culture.

Living your life under the scrutiny of the public eye comes with its own peculiar set of perils. There’s the hordes of fans everywhere you go, which can make even popping out to the grocery store for some milk a debacle of epic proportions, the total lack of privacy that naturally accompanies possessing such an instantly recognizable face, and of course, the inevitable moment when your most embarrassing moments are photographed in great detail for all of the world to see.

Let's just say John Stamos' pants didn't exactly have mercy on him. During a show with the Beach Boys in New York, the Full House alum was strumming away on the guitar when he got the feeling something was a touch awry. Turns out—the musician had accidentally split his pants on stage. "...and then, somewhere towards the end of Fun, Fun, Fun - I felt a slight breeze in the buttocks area....#SplitPants #TheBeachBUNS #showmustgoon," he punned on Instagram along with a video of himself discovering the wardrobe malfunction. Instead of skulking off the stage in embarrassment, the pro sported the rip in stride as he continued to pluck strings with the...

Another true crime story is coming to primetime.
The two-hour documentary, Truth and Lies: The Family Manson, airing tonight on ABC, will revisit the brutal murders of Sharon Tate -- who was pregnant at the time -- and five of her friends that took place at her Hollywood home on Aug. 8, 1969, while her husband, Roman Polanski, was out of town. Tate was stabbed 16 times and had an "X" carved into her stomach.

The following evening, Leno and Rosemary Labianca were killed at their home, and the word "war" was carved into Leno's stomach, while "Helter Skelter" was written on the couple's refrigerator in blood.
The documentary will feature never-before-scene interviews with Charles Manson -- who was sent to prison for ordering these murders -- as well as interviews with law enforcement and first responders to the scene of such crimes.

The Beach Boys' Dennis Wilson inadvertently puts Charles Manson on a path to Helter Skelter in this two-minute excerpt from the two-hour documentary Truth and Lies: The Family Manson, which airs Friday night on ABC.
The clip focuses on how Wilson, an associate of Manson's, took one of Manson's songs ("Cease to Exist") and turned it into the Beach Boys composition "Never Learn Not to Love," with Wilson giving himself full songwriting credit for the track.
"We actually recorded that song," the Beach Boys' Mike Love says in the excerpt.

“Baby Driver” premiered at South by Southwest last night, and early word on Edgar Wright’s latest is highly positive. IndieWire’s Eric Kohn calls the “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” director’s fifth film “a wildly successful romantic heist comedy, propelled from scene to scene with a lively soundtrack that elevates its slick chase scenes into a realm of musicality that develops its own satisfying beat.”
