After setting up the season’s central crisis through the first three episodes, Amazon Prime’s Reacher gradually establishes causality through a connection between the actions and objectives of the antagonists, letting viewers connect enough dots to figure out the big picture in the process. The previous episodes concerned Reacher learning about the systematic, brutal killings of his friends, members of the 110th unit of special investigators, and running his own investigation by taking the surviving members—Neagley, O’Donnell, and Dixon—along with him. NYPD Detective Russo, who is acting as the chief investigator of the case, briefly locks horns with Reacher but eventually agrees to help through a mutual information exchange. Eventually, the team learns about the involvement of the aerospace company New Age Technology in the murder mystery, and unbeknownst to them, the company’s chief of security, Shane Langston, is revealed to be responsible for the deaths of their comrades.

One of those was the “Western horror story” The Night They Came Home, which has just received a film adaptation that Lionsgate will be giving a theatrical and VOD release on January 12th. It's easy to forget, in our superhero-fatigued world of 2023, just how much of a stranglehold "Avengers: Infinity War" had on pop culture back in 2018. Although most of us understood that the effects of Thanos' snap would eventually be undone, that didn't stop the movie's ending from feeling like a genuinely devastating blow. Fans were crying in theaters, and other fans (allegedly) were so stressed out they had to be taken out of the theater by paramedics.
Fans impatiently waited a year for "Avengers: Endgame" to give them a satisfying conclusion, but for the writers there was one big problem: How would our heroes defeat Thanos without it feeling repetitive, or like a copout? "Infinity War" was basically just the Avengers trying and failing to stop Thanos' quest for the infinity stones for two and a half hours straight, so was "Endgame" going to be just another two and a half...

The Russo Bros’ The Gray Man was supposed to be a game-changer for Netflix. Fresh off directing two of the biggest films ever made (Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame), the Russo’s were confident they could bring the same kind of “can’t miss” event to a streamer. Indeed, The Gray Man sported a budget on par with the biggest Marvel movies and an all-star cast that included Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. The movie was indeed a hit for Netflix, with it currently sitting at number 5 on their all-time most popular movies list, but reaction to the film was more mixed than anticipated, and right now The Gray Man 2 seems like a questionable idea.

Millie Bobby Brown has recently expressed her interest in exploring projects outside of Stranger Things. One of those is the big-budget Netflix sci-fi fantasy, Damsel, which just released its first trailer. Damsel signals a turn into more adult fare for the actress, who recently turned 19, and is set to end her run on Stranger Things after its upcoming season.
Brown has also worked with the streamer on the Enola Holmes movies in addition to Damsel. The movie was initially planned for a 2023 release, but Netflix has confirmed that the film will now come out in 2024. The new trailer promises lots of large scale action courtesy of director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who previously helmed the excellent 28 Days Later sequel, 28 Weeks Later.
The synopsis of the film reads:
“A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt.

Martin Scorsese’s daughter Francesca has become a viral TikTok star over the last few months thanks to her humorous videos featuring her Oscar-winning father. One such video, titled “The Muse,” garnered a lot of attention in October after it earned a response from “Avengers” co-director Joe Russo. In Francesca’s TikTok, Martin Scorsese playfully gives directing notes to her dog, Oscar. Russo responded with his own video in which he jokingly calls his dog “Box Office.”
While Russo was being playful, his video rubbed many people the wrong way as it came off as Russo gloating about his Marvel grosses at a time when Scorsese’s latest film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” wasn’t exactly setting the box office on fire. Scorsese infamously spoke out against Marvel movies several years ago, criticizing them for putting a stronghold on film exhibition and forcing mid-budget movies and more adult-oriented fare out of the mainstream marketplace.

Across his grand filmography, Martin Scorsese has weighed up the deadly sins that make us all too human. Greed, wrath, envy, pride — name the flaw, he’s made it visceral on the screen. That he’s 80 years old and bringing out the epic Killers of the Flower Moon, based on the chilling true story of the systematic murder of Osage citizens in the 1920s for their oil-rich Oklahoma land, shows how age has made him even more fearless in confronting American evil. The tale is a long, harsh, moral nightmare.

In a recent interview, Scorsese weighed in on the transformation at the box office following the success of films based on comic books.
“The danger there is what it’s doing to our culture,” Scorsese told GQ. “Because there are going to be generations now that think movies are only those — that’s what movies are.”
Scorsese continued, “They already think that. Which means that we have to then fight back stronger. And it’s got to come from the grassroots level. It’s gotta come from the filmmakers themselves. And you’ll have, you know, the Safdie brothers, and you’ll have Chris Nolan, you know what I mean? And hit ’em from all sides. Hit ’em from all sides,...

Martin Scorsese has been on a tear against comic book movies for quite some time now, blasting them for not being “cinema” and expressing terror that future generations will think that men in capes are what movies are. We're not in Kansas anymore, folks -- or, to put it more accurately, Chris Evans is no longer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ever since sending Steve Rogers off to retirement in "Avengers: Endgame," the A-list actor hasn't exactly shied away from shedding his image as the biggest boy-scout superhero this side of Superman. He's played loathsome murderers, like Ransom Drysdale in "Knives Out." He's gone full sociopathic villain as the mercenary Lloyd Hansen in the Russo brothers' "The Gray Man." And now, he's gearing up to portray yet another conniving and morally compromised figure in "Pain Hustlers," which appears intent on pushing the boundary of how far audiences will tolerate Evans as a thoroughly unlikable and money-grubbing creep.

Husslup, the talent discovery platform founded by industry executive and producer exec H Schuster, is launching a new staffing tool designed to help studios and production companies keep track of hiring.
The company is launching a new staffing rosters tool to allow companies to track all of the talent, including actors, writers and crews, that they are staffing on a production in one place.
It comes as productions start ramping up after the writers struck a deal with the studios and the actors are currently in talks with the AMPTP.
Launching on October 16, the tool will allow executives to create and import a roster of open roles on a project, set the rate, start and end date. They will also be able to search its network of above- and below-the-line creatives to hire.

In parts, the morbid mood Deliver Us aimed for hits just the right spot, and you’re left with the feeling that they knew exactly what they were doing. Then there are the perplexing terrains in this temperamental indie where you’re dropped without a compass. What the ambitious team of Lee Roy Kunz and Cru Ennis has achieved with this part-English, part-Russian, and part-Estonian horror is pulling you into an experience to remember. The goal, seemingly, was to give the audience no option but to willfully surrender to this wholly erratic world. A world where each significant turn promises just as much grotesque pleasure as it does dread. It makes all the sense in the world to have the sickening spasms of pregnancy horror chased by hellhounds of religious horror. And to add priests to the mix with no exorcism in sight? Now, that’s what I call bold.

You know the saying: "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt." It's something parents used to tell us when we were kids and roughhoused too hard, but in the context of the upcoming horror thriller "All Fun and Games," the adage sounds more like a promise than a warning. The film follows a group of teens whose night of fun turns very high stakes when a demon gets involved, forcing them to play life-or-death versions of the kids' games that many of us love. Fan-favorite actors like Natalia Dyer and Asa Butterfield are among the cast, and the Russo brothers' production company is on board.
In a press release, Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey called the movie "a gripping debut film based on a high concept idea that caught, and held, our attention immediately." There's no trailer or "All Fun and Games" yet, but the movie does have a...

Prime Video Italy’s scripted chief Davide Nardini took to the stage at the Avp Summit today and provided views on the actors strike, the streamer’s strategic shift towards mainstream audiences and local talent.
Should the labor action drag on for a significant period, Nardini said it is possible the actors strike in Hollywood could have the unintentional impact of opening up opportunities for international talent.
He stressed Amazon was not planning for such eventualities and that this is not part of the streamer’s international strategy. Instead, his team is geared towards providing context to Italian producers at the Avp Summit about potential outcomes.
“New projects will have the opportunity to gesticulate because the strike has imposed a stop and that entails gaps that could be filled by international productions of high quality,” he said. “It’s very complex and I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.

Ti West has locked in an all-star cast for his Mia Goth-led A24 horror pic MaXXXine, with Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.), Moses Sumney (The Idol), Michelle Monaghan (Nanny), Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Halsey (Americana), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul) and Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill) closing deals for roles.

The 2023 Oscar nominee may have admitted that her provocative turn as Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” wasn’t meant to be enjoyed, but her filmography has spoken for itself. Since breaking out stateside in 2015 erotic thriller “Knock Knock” opposite Keanu Reeves, de Armas has become a Bond girl, transformed into an American icon, and cemented her A-list status as an Academy Award nominee. She went on to appear in “Blade Runner 2049” and “Knives Out,” while also making a trio of films with co-star Chris Evans, including upcoming action comedy “Ghosted.”
The “No Time to Die” actress previously said that there is “no need” for a female take on James Bond, and perhaps it’s because as a certified action star, de Armas already is a Bond in her own right.

It's been a while since we've heard about a new bonkers streaming development, especially in a landscape that is more volatile and competitive than ever before. However, The Hollywood Reporter has landed some juicy new tidbits over in the land of Amazon's Prime Video, and dear reader, you might have to sit down for what you're about to find out. The trade has reported that the upcoming series "Citadel," executive produced by Anthony and Joe Russo, ended up costing the streamer a whopping $300 million for only six, 40-minute episodes. That's $1.25 million per minute of screentime, for those keeping score at home.
There are a couple of alleged reasons for this head-spinning budget increase. According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, it ties back to the Russos' decision to fire the original showrunner of "Citadel," Josh Appelbaum. While the exact details of the firing are unclear, the decision was allegedly made due to costly creative differences.

Regé-Jean Page is a movie star in the making whether he admits it or not. With his career taking off, the former Bridgerton standout recently explained why he feels at home on a Hollywood movie set. Long before Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the actor/producer began learning the business with a small role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. During a brief appearance, Page was happy to “spy” on the production and even picked up cues from Emma Watson along the way.

Although he had already appeared in a few British TV shows at the time, Page boasts of the experience he had on the set of Deathly Hallows. He even credits the production with...

On Monday, Netflix released the first official teaser trailer for “Extraction 2,” the new action film directed by Sam Hargrave. The project is a sequel to the 2020 film which he also directed.

Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake is very much alive in the first trailer for “Extraction 2,” the sequel to the hit 2020 Netflix actioner that ended with Hemsworth’s mercenary left for dead.
Sam Hargrave returns to direct “Extraction 2,” which finds Rake tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held. Indeed, the sequel trades the sweaty Bangladesh landscape of the first film for snowy Georgia.
The teaser offers up a bit on how Rake survived the end of “Extraction,” but the bulk of the footage is a long shot in which Rake fights his way through a barrage of baddies.
When released in 2020, “Extraction” quickly became one of the most-watched Netflix original films ever, and the streamer quickly greenlit a sequel.
Joe and Anthony Russo’s Agbo produces “Extraction 2” and Joe Russo wrote the script.

There’s no denying Chris Hemsworth is one of the biggest stars in the world. However, when you take away his work as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his filmography has quite a few misses. There’s his work in the “Ghostbusters” reboot in 2016, then you have the failed attempt to reboot the “Men in Black” franchise. Let’s not forget about the middling “Spiderhead” and “12 Strong.” But there is one shining star in his non-Marvel work—the high-octane action film, “Extraction.” Now, it looks like Hemsworth, along with filmmaker Sam Hargrave and producers/writers, the Russo Brothers are ready to turn that hit Netflix film into an official franchise with an upcoming sequel.

With the exit of long-tenured film executive Lisa Nishimura on Thursday, Netflix has officially entered its austerity age — whatever that may mean for the streaming powerhouse.
Nishimura’s 15 years at the company have spanned the streaming boom, Oscar wins and multiple restructuring efforts. Noted one industry veteran that has long worked with Nishimura, “It’s a signal that the most thoughtful, taste-driven era is being driven out.”
Under film head Scott Stuber, the film division was long bifurcated according to budgets: tentpoles and indies, with the former sitting around the $30 million to $40 million and way upwards, and the latter sitting below that. Former exec Tendo Nagenda, who joined the streamer from the four-quadrant heavy hitter Disney, oversaw films like the Russo brothers’ The Gray Man and the Extraction films, as well as the Knives Out franchise and The Old Guard. Nishimura’s team oversaw, well, most everything else.

The film will screen at the festival on April 15 at the Byre Theatre. The screening will be followed by an on-stage conversation between Tucci and writer-director Joe Russo (Avengers Endgame). Russo’s Agbo label is among the backers of Sands.
Set in 1950s New Jersey, the pic follows two brothers who run an Italian restaurant. Business is not going well as a rival Italian restaurant is out-competing them. In a final effort to save the restaurant, the brothers plan to put on an evening of incredible food.
Tucci co-wrote the screenplay for Big Night with his cousin Joseph Tropiano and co-directed with fellow actor Campbell Scott (Jurassic World: Dominion). He also stars in the pic, which debuted at Sundance.

Prime Video has released a new trailer for Citadel, their rather pricey spy series starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as two mind-wiped secret agents.
“Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency—tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people—was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows,” reads the official synopsis. “With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Hollywood star Priyanka Chopra Jonas has revealed for the first time why she quit her native Bollywood industry in India and started fresh in the U.S.
Speaking on the “Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard” podcast, Chopra Jonas, who was a huge star in Bollywood before she moved to the U.S., said: “I was being pushed into a corner in the industry. I had people not casting me for reasons… I had beef with people. I was tired of the politics. I was just like, ‘I need a break.'”
The break came in the shape of a music career in the U.S. In 2011, Universal Music Group signed Chopra Jonas to a worldwide recording agreement with DesiHits, and part of the deal was that her first studio album would be released by Interscope Records in North America and by Island Records in the rest of the world.

National protests in France threatened to disrupt the 2023 Series Mania television festival and international industry summit, but, in the end, the 2023 event went off without a hitch. Members of the global TV industry gathered in the northern French city of Lille to celebrate the best in new small-screen drama and ponder the future of the business.

Amazon Studios’ head of international originals, James Farrell, who started overseeing Europe six months ago, said at Series Mania Festival that the service isn’t pulling out of local content but is keeping an eye on costs.
Farrell, who previously worked at Amazon Studios in Japan where he backed the creation of the original format behind “Lol” in 2016, said Amazon “won’t cut down on the number of shows or films” they’re doing, but “want to continue to be really good corporate stewards.”

Amazon Prime Video is exploring more global franchise opportunities following the success of the Russo Brothers’ Citadel.
James Farrell, the streamer’s VP, International, told a Series Mania audience that it is “highly likely” his non-u.S. team will seek more Citadel-like universes across both scripted and unscripted. A Tomb Raider movie and TV series penned by Phoebe Waller-Bridge are already reported to be in the works.
“It’s such a cool way to take [subscribers] on a journey and no one has really done it before,” said Farrell.
From the Russo’s Agbo, Midnight Radio, Cattleya and Amazon Studios, the spy thriller is airing as three versions from the U.S., India and Italy, starring the likes of Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The U.S. version drops next month.
The idea was born from a conversation between Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke and the Russos, according to Farrell,...

When prolific producer Mark Johnson acquired the TV rights to Richard Russo’s 1997 novel Straight Man, he knew that Saul Goodman actor Bob Odenkirk would be the perfect fit to play its lead character, William Henry Devereaux Jr. But Johnson, who also served as a producer on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, was hesitant to bring the role of the ornery Railton College English department head Odenkirk’s way for one very understandable reason.
“I’m the idiot who had the book for I don’t know how long and I was afraid to give it to Bob,” Johnson tells Den of Geek during SXSW. “I was afraid it was going to break his concentration for Saul Goodman.”
“What concentration?” Odenkirk quips.

If anybody deserved a break after completing the acclaimed run of Better Call Saul, it was Bob Odenkirk.
Odenkirk spent six seasons delivering an Emmy-worthy performance as the lead in an Emmy-worthy show, and somehow found a way to star in Amazon’s Undone, do a season of the Mr. Show-adjacent W/Bob & David for Netflix, play a key supporting role in The Post and a surely arduous lead role in Nobody, and to fit in various cameos and guest turns along the way. With all that happening, why aspire to be the cable version of David Boreanaz — a broadcast TV regular without pause since 1997 — at the same time?

Some of the best television shows are about whip-smart operators and the political nuances of their professional worlds. So why then is it so challenging to make a satisfying series about academia? It’s not only difficult to think of a television show that has succeeded in lifting the veil of a university, it’s tough to think of shows that have even tried. The most recent swipe at it was Netflix’s “The Chair,” a thin but charming dramedy starring Sandra Oh that ended after a single season. Even as college campuses remain a go-to battleground for American culture wars, the inner lives of the professors caught in the crossfire are usually reserved for novels.

On top of launching the zany ambition of “Everything Everywhere” into a $107 million worldwide gross, A24 also scored two Oscars for Darren Aronofsky’s divisive “The Whale,” which sneaked its way past $35 million accumulated over a gradual release plan.
