Considering it was a massive hit with audiences, grossing $262 million worldwide, it’s surprising that Jumanji never got a direct sequel. Sure, we got Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level (and beyond?) more than 20 years later, but one that picked up where the 1995 movie left off would have undoubtedly been a hit. Well, except if it turned out how it was originally pitched…As recently revealed by Jumanji author Chris Val Allsburg, the planned sequel would have used the final shot of the original movie — in which two girls come across the titular board game on the beach — as a launching point.
According to Val Allsburg, the sequel — which would have been titled Jumanji: The White House — would have initially taken place near that beach, quickly to be revealed as France’s Omaha Beach. Get ready for this part: the President of the United States of America,...

On Dec. 15, 1995, TriStar unveiled the Robin Williams starrer Jumanji in theaters, where it would go on to gross $262 million globally and eventually kickstart a franchise. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
Call it “Game Story.”
Based on a 1981 book by children’s author and illustrator Chris Van Allsburg, Jumanji tells the story of a mysterious board game with a treacherous mind of its own; where every roll of the dice carries considerable consequences.
The filmed result is a raucous, noisy affair jam-packed with special effects, amusing character turns and some truly surreal sight gags.
And while all the parts never seem to form a cohesive whole and the rampaging critters may be a little intense for younger viewers, Jumanji holds enough distractions along the way to keep audiences occupied.
Boxoffice results should be respectable but TriStar probably shouldn’t expect a stampede.
Young Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce play Judy and Peter,...

“You think that mosquitos, monkeys, and lions are bad? That is just the beginning. I’ve seen things you’ve only seen in your nightmares. Things you can’t even imagine. Things you can’t even see. There are things that hunt you in the night. Then something screams. Then you hear them eating, and you hope to God that you’re not dessert. Afraid? You don’t even know what afraid is. You would not last five minutes without me.”
This is a quote from the character of Alan Parrish as delivered by the late, legendary Robin Williams in the 1995 hit Jumanji. It goes pretty hard, doesn’t it?
It’s intense. It’s foreboding, and it’s played straight. That is the key to the gateway horror aspect of the film – the danger is always played straight.

The late Robin Williams had the incredible and unmatched ability to make people laugh. His volcanic energy, genius delivery, and rapid impressions made him a household name. Williams’ immense success in the 1990s eventually opened the door for more serious films, including the tender Good Will Hunting and the fantastical What Dreams May Come. Not everything that came after was as well received or recognized, but Williams continued to pursue other genres outside of comedy. The actor had his fair share of dramatic performances to complement his comedic ones, but it was Williams’ sinister turn in 2002’s One Hour Photo that caught everyone off guard. No one was expecting Mrs. Doubtfire or Aladdin’s genie to star in such an unsettling psychological-thriller.
Sy the Photo Guy remains a defining character in Williams’ career, even after playing another villain in Insomnia that same year. However, to outright label the chronically lonely...

It’s been almost nine years since the death of actor and comedian Robin Williams shook the entertainment world to its core.
The star of films including Mrs Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting and Night at the Museum was 63 when he died on 11 August 2014.
Despite the time that has passed, anecdotes of the countless good deeds he did for others continue to be shared, most recently when Nathan Lane revealed how Williams protected him during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
One of Williams’ most popular films was Jumanji, the 1995 blockbuster co-starring Bonnie Hunt and Jonathan Hyde.
It also featured Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce, who were child stars at the time. In 2020, celebrating the film’s 25th anniversary, Pierce revealed how Williams once stepped in to defend him from over-demanding producers.
Jumanji followed two children whose worlds collides with Williams’s Alan Parrish, who got sucked into the magical board game as a young boy.

It has been nearly a decade since the death of iconic comedian Robin Williams. But he is still lovingly remembered by fans all over the world for his kindness and generosity. Williams was much more than just a comic genius and a gifted actor. He was also a genuinely thoughtful human being as well.
Many of Williams’ former co-stars have opened up about their experiences working with the late star. In 2020, one former child star who worked with him in the 1995 cult classic Jumanji revealed that Williams was a major advocate for the child performers on the set, including young Kirsten Dunst.

Director Joe Johnston's "Jumanji" came along at just the right time for Robin Williams. Having settled into his groove as an actor, Williams was not quite at the point where he could fully shed his hurricane of a comedic persona on-screen. That would happen a little later in his career when he starred in films like "One Hour Photo" and "Insomnia."
If anything, though, this worked in Williams' favor on "Jumanji." His character in the film, Alan Parrish, is just a boy when he's trapped in the titular magic board game in 1969, only to emerge a fully grown adult — with an untamed beard and a mane of hair to rival that of the lion he squares off with — when he escapes the game 26 years later. Having survived in the jungles of Jumanji alone all this time, Alan the adult is emotionally stunted. As such, in the scenes where Williams indulges his zanier side,...

For as much as humans are the stars of Disney's 1993 box office failure-turned Halloween cult classic "Hocus Pocus," they've got serious competition from Thackery Binx. Of course, it helps that the adorable, irritable feline — who, as seen in the film's 17th-century-set prologue, was once a teen boy cursed to live forever as a talking black cat by the Sanderson Sisters — is voiced by the talented Jason Marsden. The actor also provided the vocals for Max Goof in "A Goofy Movie" and has reprised the role in other Disney-animated projects since then.
"Hocus Pocus" seems to close the book on Binx's story in its final minutes. Having done his part to send the resurrected Sanderson Sisters back to the grave, Binx's soul is finally set free at the end of the movie, allowing him to join his sister Emily in the afterlife. So what's up with the black cat who...
