“Lost Ollie” has been found – and he’s on Netflix right now.
The four-episode series, loosely based on a William Joyce book (“Ollie’s Odyssey”), had been in development for more than a decade. What began as a project from Joyce’s own production entity was eventually rescued by Netflix and 21 Laps, one of the production companies behind “Stranger Things.” That’s when Shannon Tindle, an insanely talented designer and animator who had created Laika’s “Kubo and the Two Strings,” pitched his version of the story, which follows a lost toy (voiced by Jonathan Groff), who teams up with a pair of mismatched toys (played by Tim Blake Nelson and Mary J. Lost Ollie Director Peter Ramsey On Treating VFX Teams Like True Collaborators [Exclusive Interview]
"Lost Ollie" is a new animation/live-action hybrid show that tells the story of a lost patchwork bunny embarking on a fantastical adventure to try and reunite with his best friend, a human boy named Billy. Along the way, he faces wonders, horrors, betrayal, action, and more. In her review for /Film, Shania Russell wrote: "'Lost Ollie' doesn't need to be a grand epic or end-of-the-world type quest. It's still a beautiful reminder of what it feels like to be wandering and what it truly means to find your way home."
The show may tread familiar ground compared to stories in "Toy Story" or "The Velveteen Rabbit," but it manages to stand out thanks to great animation from Ilm and a series of emotional gut punches that hit as hard as any Pixar movie. If you are looking for an adorable series to watch soon, then the Netflix live-action/animated hybrid "Lost Ollie" should be on your watchlist. Try to get through the trailer without at least being on the verge of tears, we dare you.
In all seriousness, "Lost Ollie" looks heartwrenching and sweet, something that might be sorely needed right now. If that wasn't enough, it's got a pretty great cast rounding out the miniseries. On the live-action side, you've got Jake Johnson and Gina Rodriguez playing the parents of a young boy named Billy (newcomer Kesler Talbot), and for the CG-animated segments, you've got Jonathan Groff voicing the titular patchwork toy rabbit. Mary J. Blige also lends her voice to a colorful creation named Rosy.

"Lost Ollie" is Netflix's latest limited series, an animation/live-action hybrid with a narrative that will be familiar to everyone who has seen "Toy Story" or "The Velveteen Rabbit." It follows a patchwork bunny who has lost his human and best friend, Billy, and subsequently embarks on an epic adventure to be reunited with him.
The series packs more emotional gut punches than any warning can prepare you for, but it is still a delightful and fun adventure in the vein of a Mark Twain novel. It also has an incredible cast that includes Jonathan Groff, Tim Blake Nelson, Mary J. Blige, Gina Rodriguez, and Jake Johnson. Sure, the mid-point can be a bit repetitive and slow, but the pay-off of the show can easily cue the waterworks. In her review for /Film, Shania Russell wrote: "'Lost Ollie' doesn't need to be a grand epic or end-of-the-world type quest.

In the vein of “Toy Story” and “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Netflix’s miniseries “Lost Ollie” treats its young, target audience as people who can grasp weighty subjects like grief without being condescended to. At the same time, the live-action/animated hybrid series, from Shannon Tindle and directed by Peter Ramsey, offers family-friendly programming that allows adults to access a lost sense of childhood — something star Gina Rodriguez feels is a “huge gift” to both her younger and current self.
“There was an unbelievable clarity to the vision [Ramsey and Tindle] had and it was undeniable and the scripts were just so beautiful, and just so nuanced, where it has joy and levity, and it has this quest and this action-adventure fulfillment, and then it also has really difficult subject matters that aren’t always presented to the young,” Rodriguez told TheWrap.

Is there a more universal experience than the festering fear of looking around and realizing you're lost? It happens to children and adults, and evidently, it's also a very common occurrence for toys. "Lost Ollie" certainly isn't the first time we've seen a beloved toy embark on a dangerous journey to find its way home, but it might very well be the most adorable. To be fair, this particular story has the advantage of following Ollie, the world's cutest stuffy — a patchwork bunny with unbeatable spirit and the voice of Jonathan Groff.
When he wakes to find himself in an unfamiliar place, it's up to Ollie to swallow his fear and begin a quest filled with danger, mystery, and more emotional gut punches than one can honestly prepare for. And why put himself through all that? Because somewhere out there is Billy (Kesler Talbot), a young boy who needs his favorite toy.

Are you ready to find “Lost Ollie?”
The upcoming Netflix series, which debuts August 24, is based on a story by William Joyce, whose stories have been adapted into “Robots,” “Meet the Robinsons” and “Rise of the Guardians.” It follows a lovable, hopelessly lost toy rabbit named Ollie (voiced by Jonathan Groff) as he searches for his young owner (Kesler Talbot).
His search sees him traversing many dangers in a surprisingly naturalistic deep south, as he teams up with a clown doll named Zozo (Tim Blake Nelson) and a battle-hardened bear (Mary J. Blige). And you can watch the trailer (above).

"Good time to start a quest... filled with danger and mystery." Netflix has finally unveiled an official trailer for an adorable new hybrid CGI / live action series titled Lost Ollie, from two superbly talented animation filmmakers - Shannon Tindle (who was the creator of Kubo and the Two Strings) and Peter Ramsey (of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). I'm sold entirely on these two creating this. Lost Ollie is the touching story of a young boy's search for his lost stuffed animal — and the unbelievable journey his stuffed rabbit goes on trying to get home. It's about a lost toy, searching across the countryside for the boy who lost him, and the story of the boy who lost more than a best friend. The cast features Jonathan Groff as the voice of Ollie, with Gina Rodriguez, Jake Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Kesler Talbot, and Mary J. Blige. I've been waiting to...

Based on the original show, which ran from 1961 to 1975 (and has been revived in several forms since then), “Password” pits two teams compete against each other as they solve word puzzles using one-word clues. The team that solves for the password ultimately takes home 25,000. The series premiere will see Fallon compete against Hamm in an episode dedicated to Betty White, a frequent player on the original “Password” and the wife of the show’s original host Allen Ludden.

For 55 years, “Ultraman” has been one of Japan’s A-list superheroes — defending the planet from alien kaiju and inspiring all manner of global pop culture, from the “Power Rangers” to Paul Rudd’s “Ant-Man” suit. But while the character has a loyal following outside of Japan, Ultraman has never become a massive crossover phenomenon at the scale of Godzilla or Pokémon.
Netflix is hoping to change that.
The streamer is partnering with Tsuburaya Productions to develop “Ultraman” as a CG-animated feature film aimed at bringing a new, wider audience to the beloved silver-suited character. Shannon Tindle, an animator who’s worked on “Coraline” and “Kubo and the Two Strings,” will make his feature directorial debut with the project, from a script he wrote with “Kubo” screenwriter Marc Haimes. “Lost Ollie” is “the story of a lost toy, searching across the countryside for the boy who lost him, and the story of the boy who lost more than a best friend,” per the streamer. There was a time when Disney was developing an animated series based on their classic theme park ride Haunted Mansion. It was being developed by the creator of Kubo and the Two Strings, Shannon Tindle, and he recently shared a teaser trailer showing off what they were looking to do.
Unfortunately, production on the series was shut down and nothing ever happened with it. It looked like it would have been great, though!
According to Cartoon Brew, Tindle and a small team were developing two different pilots for an animated Haunted Mansion series. One would have been an ongoing series, while the other would have been more of a limited series. When talking about it, Tindle said:
"My goal was to take inspiration from all the backstories created by the artists at Wed (Disney's Imagineering division) and stitch it into one, giant narrative. The story would span several years and focus on different characters,...

Chicago – It’s that time of the film year, the “Ten Best” lists. In representing my 2016 picks – as “Patrick McDonald” – I looked for the emotional experience as much as anything. I think every filmgoer, from the most casual to the ardent buff, adhere to their favorites through that feeling of connection.
There are honorable mentions all over the place, often just missing the 10th spot – I like to characterize them as all tied for eleventh. My favorite superhero film was “Captain America: Civil War,” for the Marvel Comics angst that works best in this genre of movies. The dramas “Arrival,” “Elle,” “Little Men” and “A Monster Calls” were excellent and heartfelt experiences. I loved the wacky tribute that writer/directors Joel and Ethan Coen gave to 1950s Hollywood in “Hail, Caesar!” And after watching it again after initial reservations, I realized and connected to the ardent celebration in the musical “La La Land.
