Wednesday (April 15) night's "American Idol" theme is American Classics and America played some role in choosing the eligible songs and at some point, somehow, we'll find out who America put in the Bottom 2 and then America will get to go on Twitter and choose who we/they want to save. That's a lot of responsibility on you tonight, America. Good thing I only have to recap! Click through and follow along. 7:59 p.m. Et. Note to self: Clark Beckham is a person on "American Idol." Try to remember. 8:00 p.m. "Tonight we celebrate the songs you picked as American Classics," Ryan Seacrest says, underlining the confusion. And is Ryan already holding the results? Does that mean we've abandoned the envelope-presenters? That wasn't a good gimmick. But it wasn't a bad gimmick either... 8:01 p.m. Jennifer Lopez Fashion Show time! Yeah, there's no way she's touching anybody in the crowd tonight.

I put a picture of Trevor Douglas with my Wednesday night "American Idol" recap, because I figured that even with a bad performance last week, he was still likely to advance. I was wrong. American made some interesting choices when it came to the Boys but will voters have better or more predictable judgment when it comes to the Girls? Click through, follow along, comment below and let's find out! 8:01 p.m. Et. Ryan Seacrest is Really keeping things casual for these Detroit shows, eh? 8:02 p.m. Same deal as last night: Eight girls will be called to perform. The other four? Eliminated. Up first? Singer: Tyanna Jones Song: "Rockin' Robin" My Take: Easy call, America. But at least you got it right. With her infectious smile, infectious voice and infectious blue tinted hair, Tyanna is... ummm... infectious. This performance is just about having fun and, as a result,...

Happy thirtieth birthday to This Is Spinal Tap, which licked the world's love pump this week in 1984. It remains the funniest, truest, most emotionally honest movie ever made about rock & roll and the people who live for it. Can you trace the influence of this film through pop culture through the years? That would be like trying to dust vomit. The enduring power of Spinal Tap is how it gets the details so lovingly right, musically and emotionally — right from that opening scene where the roadies lift the giant skull,...

The Voice might be done with its blind auditions, but that just means we're moving right on into the Battles! You know how it works - each coach pairs off their team to go head to head with each other. And, of course, if someone doesn't win their Battle, they can be stolen by another sneaky coach (just don't ask Will to explain it, because he'll go off on one about Mary Poppins and Rockin' Robin...)
Anyway, with Sir Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, will.i.am and Ricky Wilson sitting pretty - and in new clothes! - and with starry mentors Katy B, Jake Shears, Dante Santiago, Leah McFall and Tinie Tempah along for the ride, let's see what went down in tonight's Battles...

Ready for a fight? Michael Jackson would've been 54 years old today, so instead of dwelling on bizarro distractions like Conrad Murray, Debbie Rowe, or the legendary La Toya, let's brawl about the one thing that will always matter about the King of Pop: the music. Time to rank his 54 best tunes, and that includes his Jackson 5/Jacksons stuff. It doesn't include his cameo vocal in Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me," however.
Can I just say how difficult it is to pick Michael Jackson's 54 best songs? I could've focused more on his Jackson 5-era stuff, but I think it's only right to give Thriller and Off the Wall most of the attention. Without further ado, here are my picks for Michael Jackson's 54 greatest songs. Your job? School me with dissent.
54. "You Are Not Alone"
53. "Will You Be There"
52. "Speed Demon"
51. "Ben"
50. "Dangerous"
49. "Why You Wanna Trip On Me...

As Hollywood Week drags on for what seems like its fifth week, the "American Idol" hopefuls are put through another group performance. Except they get more time and professional-looking costumes and lighting, so it's not quite as fun as the crazy Group Night.
We kick things off on the bus that hauls the Idols to Las Vegas, for reasons kind of passing understanding. Why move venues? Why not keep them in the same building they've been living in for all of Hollywood Week and just completely Stockholm Syndrome them?
The judges tell the 70 kids left that they are going to sing music from the 1950s1960s, which will definitely prepare them for on the live shows when they get criticized for being current or not knowing who they are as an artist. *eye roll*
Now, I'm criticizing music from this era. I love the 50s/60s. Love. But ... c'mon. We all know how "Idol" is.

Justin Bieber has praised the late Michael Jackson for inspiring him to become a singer. The musician sang 'Rockin' Robin' at a tribute to the King of Pop at Hollywood's Grauman's Chinese Theatre, which was attended on Thursday by Jackson's children Prince, Paris and Blanket. Bieber spoke of Jackson's influential career with Access Hollywood at the gala. "He's an icon. Every time that I go out on stage, every time I go out and perform, I'm always trying to be the best and that's what he always did," Bieber said of the 'Thriller' singer. "There's never gonna be another Michael Jackson as long as anyone lives. I think that he's just incredible and it's an honor to be here." Bieber also admitted that it's (more)...

You might be hearing "Young Homie" on the radio soon. Santa Cruz garbage man turned "X Factor" third-place finisher Chris Rene has signed a deal with Epic Records, where he will be reunited with his "Factor" mentor, Epic boss L.A. Reid.
"I've dreamt about this moment my whole life," Rene told Entertainment Weekly. "And now it's here. Working with L.A. Reid — 'Big Homie' — is -- 'Big Homie' -- is a dream come true; he's a great man."
Rene will be labelmates with another "Factor" finalist, fourth-placer Astro, the teenage rapper who revealed to MTV News on Tuesday that he would also be teaming with Reid at Epic.

So, Michael Jackson is the theme night for "The X Factor" and his family members are there. I'm sorry, but I find this a little gross. Michael has been gone over two years and I've never been comfortable with treating him with the saint-like revere that he has gotten since he died. On top of that, his family has seemed to kind of be taking advantage of the publicity of his death. And finally, the Conrad Murray sentencing was just handed down. Coincidence?
Seriously, this smacks of all sorts of things I don't like. So, I'm just putting that out there. But I think I can be objective about the contestants because A) not their fault or choice and B) Mj did put forth some really great music.
1. Josh Krajcik, "Dirty Diana"
Good choice for Krajcik, as far as the Mj catalog goes, though this is definitely not my favorite Josh performances.

It seems like this is the summer that the world beyond Office fans will get a taste of Ed Helms' vocal stylings. Because Andy Bernard's a capella "Rockin' Robin" just isn't enough for the world, this summer we've gotten his song about tiger dreams in The Hangover, and now a straight-faced boy band parody "Doin' It," from the new comedy The Good: Live Hard, Sell Hard. I admit, I haven't been paying the remotest bit of attention to this movie. But even if you're as ignorant as I am, the Funny or Die clip is absolutely worth watching. Plus you can get a little context by watching the red-band tailer for the clip below, in which you see a bit of the boy band video and meet Ed Helms as the villainous, rival car dealership owner, trying to put Jeremy Piven's character out of business. Yes, it...

Jackson 5, solo hits and a star turn in 'The Wiz' defined Michael's early years.

Michael Jackson performing in 1970

In the wake of his untimely death on June 25, it's hard to remember a time when Michael Jackson was not in our lives. The world-famous singer — who in the 1980s shattered all notions of what pop stardom could be — had been a major star since he was 10 years old, and by the time he released what is still the best-selling album of original material of all time, 1982's Thriller, he was already a wily music-industry veteran.
Born Michael Joseph Jackson on August 29, 1958, into a musical family of less-than-modest means in the industrial Midwestern town of Gary, Indiana, Jackson began performing with his brothers professionally at the age of 5 in a group put together by his steelworker father, Joseph. It quickly...

In the hours after news broke of Michael Jackson's death, sales of the King of Pop's albums skyrocketed, occupying every slot in the top 15 on the Amazon.com best-seller list and about half the top 20 iTunes album and single lists. Yet this post-tragedy sales spike was only the latest boom in a 40-years-long career of unparalleled hit-making. (Sources for this article include Jackson's Web site, the RIAA and Billboard, among others.)
Jackson sold more than 750 million records worldwide. He notched eight platinum or multiplatinum albums and 13 #1 singles, and had 47 tracks crack the Billboard Hot 100. He won 13 Grammy Awards, was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of the Jackson 5 and as a solo artist) and received the American Music...

And one of the Top 10 contestants was even African-American! Smokey Robinson served as the guest mentor. Younger people didn't recognize him. I'm sure older people who know what he used to look like didn't recognize him either. Do not go to Diana Ross' plastic surgeon! You didn't find it strange that his office was in Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum? The key word this season is "artist", thus adding a new level of pretension to the cheese. I blame Kara. "It's not about singing", she whined last night, "it's about artistry". She's saying this to kids singing "Rockin' Robin". Matt Giraud kicked off the five hour show in high style singing Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On". The judges were universally knocked out by his choreography - and by that I mean he stepped away from the piano and sang standing next to...

Now it's clear why Simon hates when contestants sing Michael Jackson. It's so hard to pull off the King of Pop that most of last night's inexperienced contestants sounded horrible. While I enjoyed reminiscing over how much I miss Michael's music, only a few of the contestants shined while singing his memorable songs. Early favorites like Danny Gokey continued to get the crowd excited with "Pyt." Cutie Kris Allen sang "Remember the Time," and while it is cute that he was lovey about his wife, Simon's joke about hiding her a little longer was funny and probably true. Allison's "Heart of Stone" was awesome, as was Matt Giraud closing with "Human Nature." Megan got made fun of for her "Rockin' Robin" song choice and dance moves, but she's still a combination of annoying and cute, so she'll be around next week. Probably also safe are Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, and Alexis Grace.

"American Idol" gets down to the business, the Top 13 begin the war to secure the this year's title. On Tuesday, March 10, all 13 finalists are competing for viewers vote through the performance night that picks Michael Jackson as its theme.
Firing up the show first was Lil Rounds with "The Way You Make Me Feel". Randy Jackson said he continued loving her but Simon Cowell thought it was a lazy song choice. Blind contestant Scott MacIntyre took the stage with his piano, singing "Keep The Faith". Randy didn't think it was a bold choice for such level of the show while Kara DioGuardi said she liked the "vibe".
Fan favorite Danny Gokey nabbed the third slot with "P.Y.T." He worked the stage by doing some dancing which Simon described as "hideous". Michael Sarver was up next, belting out "You Are Not Alone". Randy complimented it as "the best of...
