Legendary director and producer George Lucas has been chosen to receive the Art Directors Guild's Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award in 2009 for his revolutionary films.
The announcement of the selection was made today by the Adg President, Thomas Walsh and co-producers John Sabato and John Janvas.
The award is given to director's whose work in the film industry enhances the visual aspects of the movie-going experience. Previous honorees include Clint Eastwood, Blake Edwards, Terry Gilliam, Ray Harryhausen, Norman Jewison, John Lasseter, Frank Oz and Steven Spielberg.
Lucas won ten Academy Awards for his Star Wars Saga and the films broke all box-office records to help set new standards for sophistication in film visuals and sounds. His "Indiana Jones" chronicles won eight Academy Awards, 12 Emmy awards and the fourth installment in 2008 became a number one worldwide film.
