Actor Dominic West turned down an opportunity to work alongside his son, Senan West, for the second time on The Crown. The 54-year-old, who reprised his role as Prince Charles in the sixth and final season of the Netflix series about the late Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, stopped his son from doing the same. Why? Because of the scene where Charles tells 15-year-old Prince William that Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) died.
West forbade Senan from portraying William in ‘The Crown’ Season 6 because he didn’t want to tell ‘a boy his mother has died’
A heartbreaking scene in The Crown Season 6 involves West, as the now-King Charles III, telling his sons, the Prince of Wales and Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, that their mother, Princess Diana, played by Debicki, died in a 1997 car accident in Paris, France.

Fans of The Crown have been blown away by the resemblance between a young Prince William and the actor set to play him next.
In the forthcoming sixth season of Netflix’s hit royal drama, William will be played by Ed McVey.
McVey, 21, takes the reins from Senan West, who portrayed the royal as a teenager in the previous season.

Among the many controversies that gripped the British Royal Family during the 1990s was one that would only come to light almost two decades later, when Prince Andrew’s friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his partner Ghislaine Maxwell (who was convicted of sex trafficking last December) was eventually exposed in the press.
The scandal, which metastasized after Prince Andrew was sued in a civil court for sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims, destroyed his public standing. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, stripped him of his many patronages and military titles before she died and, despite denying any wrongdoing and ultimately settling with Giuffre, Andrew is still effectively banished from public life.
But for James Murray, who plays Prince Andrew in Season 5 of “The Crown,” there was no apprehension about stepping into the disgraced royal’s buffed shoes. “My thoughts were, ‘Great, fantastic,’” Murray tells Variety.

Netflix gathered The Crown’s new stars – Imelda Staunton, Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Jonny Lee Miller, Jonathan Pryce, and Dominic West – for a press conference in support of season five. The new season arrives just two months after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and the series’ Queen, Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton, shared her feelings about the thousands of people who stood in line to pay their respects to the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
“I think they felt such huge respect for someone who kept her promise. She just kept her promise and she did the job,” said Staunton. “It amazed me, people’s response to her. On the eve of the premiere of the fifth season of “The Crown,” Edith Bowman hosted a virtual press conference with six of the Netflix drama’s new cast members: Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Jonny Lee Miller, Jonathan Pryce, Imelda Staunton, and Dominic West. Having inherited their roles as British royal family members and associates from the younger cast of Season 4, these performers are tasked with depicting their established characters’ “biggest challenge yet: proving their continued relevance in ‘90s Britain.”
Read their responses to questions regarding the experience of bringing these iconic figures to life.
Imelda Staunton (Queen Elizabeth II): “When you’ve got the writing there that does probably about 80, if not more, of the work… the challenge is getting the audience to come inside, hopefully, and see what you’re feeling without showing what you’re feeling… I think for all of us… this family… we are locked.

In "The Crown" season five, released on Netflix on Nov. 9, Elizabeth Debicki takes on the role of Princess Diana. She's the fourth person to portray "The People's Princess" in recent years, after Kristen Stewart in 2021's "Spencer," Jeanna de Waal in Broadway's "Diana" musical, and Emma Corrin in the fourth season of "The Crown," released in 2020. Debicki's turn as Diana comes months after the 25th anniversary of the princess's death.
Debicki worked hard to master Diana's mannerisms and voice. The show's costume department re-created some of her most iconic looks for season five and even remixed clothes she was photographed in, also imagining outfits she might have worn during private moments.

Late in the fifth season of Netflix’s The Crown, Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton) asks her grandson William (Senan West) for help with the complicated remote control for the palace’s new satellite dish. As William flips through the many new channels in search of the BBC, Her Royal Majesty briefly finds herself watching Beavis and Butt-head. Much like one of her predecessors, she is not amused.
It is the Nineties, and Elizabeth has agreed to get the satellite dish because her old TV and antenna are no longer up to snuff.

Netflix’s The Crown, poised to drop Season 5 on November 6, is irrefutable proof of America’s continuing fascination with England’s royal family. The series opens with Elizabeth’s wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947 and Season 4 wraps with the resignation of longtime Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Along the way, the series, created and principally written by Peter Morgan, delivers all the insider drama and palace intrigue one would expect in a drama about the royals. The series is produced for Netflix by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television.
Reinforcing its popularity, after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, the show’s first two seasons bounced back into Netflix’s Top 10 shows, according to the streaming service.

Since the launch of its first season in 2016, The Crown has captured the imaginations of millions around the world.
A dramatisation of the royal family during reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the Netflix series has depicted key points in the late monarch’s life, from her marriage to Prince Philip in 1947 to, in the most recent season, the early stages of Prince Charles’s marriage to Diana, Princess of Wales.
Since the Queen’s death at age 96 on 8 September, there has been a resurgence of interest in the programme, with many curious to know just how accurately the storylines represent real-life occurrences.
Season five is due to begin streaming on the platform in November and will feature a new set of cast members to represent the family in the early to mid-Nineties.
Imelda Staunton will lead the new ensemble as the Queen, succeeding Olivia Colman who played the monarch in seasons three and four.
