ABC is renewing the lion’s share of its most high-profile unscripted series for the 2024-2025 TV season. Among the shows back are “American Idol,” “The Bachelor” and “Dancing with the Stars” (which is also simulcast on Disney+).
Also returning: “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” as well as “What Would You Do?” and “Shark Tank.” Decisions are still to be made on a handful of other unscripted series.
For “Dancing with the Stars,” this reps the 33rd cycle of the show, which is hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough and features a panel of judges including Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough. BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions produces.

Joey Graziadei’s fantasy suites with the women of “The Bachelor” Season 28 marked not only the most-watched episode of his season so far, but reached a larger audience than any episode of “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette” or “Bachelor in Paradise” since the finale of Clayton Echard’s season in 2022 when accounting for three days of viewing. The only series in the franchise to outperform Joey’s since then has been the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor.”
The episode’s March 11 airing on ABC averaged a season high 3.8 million viewers according to Live + Same Day data from Nielsen. That number rose by 63.9% to 6.3 million viewers after three days of delayed viewing, inclusive of Hulu and other digital platforms, per a combination of Nielsen data and Disney’s own streaming calculations.
In rating among adults age 18-49, the episode started with a 0.7 and grew by 178% to a 1.9 in Multiplatform + 3 — the second highest this season.

Week 4 of Joey Graziadei’s season of “The Bachelor” brought major drama — and major viewership along with it.
The episode’s initial airing on ABC on Feb. 12 averaged 3.5 million viewers according to Live + Same Day data from Nielsen — a series high, up 9% from the week before — and with three days of delayed viewing across Hulu and other digital platforms, that number rose to 5.9 million.
The delayed viewing figure, calculated from a combination of Nielsen measurement and Disney’s proprietary streaming data, also represents a series high when compared to Multiplatform + 3 performance of previous episodes this season.
The first three episodes of Season 28 all opened to roughly 3.2 million viewers in Live + Same Day. After three days of multiplatform viewing, the premiere grew to 5.3 million viewers, Week 2 grew to 5.4 million, and Week 3 grew to 5.5 million, meaning that Week 4’s 69% jump from 3.5 million to 5.9 million viewers also marks the largest delayed viewing lift of the season.

ABC’s Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner commented on an exposé released this week that detailed his less-than-golden relationship past.
Turner was asked about the story by reporters while doing interviews for the hit reality show, which aired its season finale Thursday night. The Hollywood Reporter’s story, which ran one day ahead of the finale, detailed how the first Golden Bachelor’s past was a bit different than what’s been presented on the show. For instance, Turner had claimed that he hadn’t dated since his wife’s tragic death in 2017, but a former girlfriend disputed this. The woman identified only as “Carolyn” says she dated Turner for 10 months and lived with him in his Indiana home. She said Turner broke up with her because of her weight. ABC has named its newest star of “The Bachelor” franchise. Zach Shallcross, who didn’t find love with either Gabby Windey or Rachel Recchia, will take on the role for Season 27.
Shallcross was primarily dating Recchia, though the two didn’t work out earlier in the season.
The new “Bachelor” is a 26-year-old tech executive from Anaheim Hills, Calif. He splits his time between Texas and Orange County.
Per ABC: “A family man at heart, Shallcross splits time between Texas and Orange County. His parents, who have been married over 30 years, have shown him what true love looks like. He strives to find a love that echoes the standard they have set for him, and he plans to keep them in mind when looking for a life partner. Home is where the heart is; and with the Bachelor mansion not too far away, Shallcross is eager to begin his journey back home in Southern California.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 18 finale of “The Bachelorette,” which aired on ABC on Dec. 21.
“The Bachelorette” wrapped up its 18th season with a franchise-first: the dating series, which premiered nearly two decades ago, had its first Black winning couple.
Leading lady Michelle Young fell in love with Nayte Olukoya, who ended the season with a televised engagement. The couple, very much still together, then sat down for a live TV interview to update America on their relationship progress. The pair are currently house-hunting, which was made easier, thanks to the show gifting them a $200,000 check towards a down payment (in addition to a pricey Neil Lane diamond ring).
“It’s so important,” Young tells Variety, in an interview the day after her TV engagement. “Not only seeing a Black love story, but seeing a healthy Black love story is something that’s really not showcased.

Most reality TV stars don’t juggle press tours with creating lesson plans — but most television personalities aren’t elementary school teachers. Meet Michelle Young: the new star of ABC’s “The Bachelorette,” who teaches fifth grade and has no plans to leave her life as an educator to chase fame.
While Young — a contestant from Matt James’ season of “The Bachelor” — was in Los Angeles to fulfill her promotional duties for Season 18 of “The Bachelorette,” which premieres Oct. 19 at 8 p.m., she was remotely working on lesson plans for her students, who she says get a kick out of her new gig as a TV star.

The upcoming season will star Michelle Young, a contestant who emerged as a fan-favorite from Matt James’ season of “The Bachelor” in early 2021.
Young, a school teacher, was announced as the future star of “The Bachelorette” earlier this year, concurrently with Katie Thurston, who led the most recent season of the female-fronted series this past spring.
