The Killer is a South Korean action thriller movie directed by Jae-Hoon Choi. It stars Jang Hyuk yu.
Merciless action.
Premise
A retired hitman whose wife goes on a trip with her friend, and asks him to look after the friend’s teenage daughter. Things go awry when he is forced to use a little violence to protect the girl from juvenile delinquents, but then they are found dead and the girl is kidnapped.
About the Movie
A “recipe” that worked well – very well – a few years back, and that, applying the same premise and an almost identical character, keeps on repeating itself movie after movie. The elements are there, with the good action sequences, the heroic character, but it not new. However, of what you seek if just raw action this might be to your liking.

South Korean cinema isn’t generally known for martial arts-heavy, stylish action films. The action films that do well are mostly of the gangster genre with hyper-stylised violence, which should make first-time director Lee Seung-won’s martial arts extravaganza “Revenger” slightly unique. The film’s trailer promised us lots of action, excitingly choreographed fight scenes and a high body count, making for a welcome relief from the usual gun/knife action sequences. But is it?

It’s been a while since South Korea has produced an fulfilling martial arts action film. Hoping to fill the void is first-time Director Lee Seung-won with his debut feature “Revenger”, which seems to take a leaf out of Indonesian martial arts films in its trailer.
Synopsis
To avenge the murder of his family, a man goes to Sura Island, a prison for dangerous criminals where dangerous criminals are housed.
Along with the director, the film is also the debut vehicle for its lead actor Bruce Khan, who has previously worked behind-the-scenes as a martial arts choreographer as well as on-screen stunt work in some films. Also starring Park Hee-soon and Yoon Jin-seo, the film is expected to hit South Korean cinemas in December, 2018. How it holds up to its Indonesian cousins like “The Raid” films or even the latest “The Night Comes for Us” remains to be seen.
