Following the critical acclaim of the first season, BBC is moving forward with a second season of The Tourist, with Jamie Dornan and Danielle Macdonald set to return. The six-part thriller commissioned by the BBC in association with Stan and Zdf was created and written by Jack and Harry Williams and produced by Two Brothers Pictures in association with All3Media International. Shooting begins this April.
“I’m incredibly excited to continue the story with The Tourist. Harry and Jack Williams are brilliant writers and I can’t wait for audiences to see how well Ireland and its characters are utilised to keep them guessing as the tale progresses,” Dornan said.
Having launched with 12 million viewers and holding the title as the most-watched series on BBC iPlayer in January 2022, the off-beat thriller will continue with the same dark comedy that had viewers hooked from the beginning.

Britain’s leading lady of the TV action thriller, Keeley Hawes, is back.
The star of “Bodyguard” returns in “Crossfire,” another nail-biting thriller for the BBC in which Hawes plays a holidaymaker whose sunbathing session on her hotel balcony becomes a nightmare when shots ring out across the complex, turning her world upside down.
The scenario will remind audiences of her turn as the U.K. home secretary alongside Richard Madden’s bodyguard in the eponymous BBC drama, which became a global hit when it was picked up by Netflix.
The setting for “Crossfire,” however, is a far cry from London’s Westminster, instead set at a luxury resort in the Canary Islands.
Produced by Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions (“The Salisbury Poisonings”), the drama is the first original series from author Louise Doughty, who previously adapted her novel “Apple Tree Yard” for a hugely popular BBC limited series.

Exclusive: Bodyguard and Line Of Duty star Keeley Hawes has been set to headline and executive produce Crossfire, a major BBC One miniseries about a hotel shooting from the producer behind The Salisbury Poisonings.
Deadline understands that Fremantle-backed Dancing Ledge Productions will team with Hawes’ Buddy Club Productions to produce the three-part series, written by Apple Tree Yard author Louise Doughty in her first original project for television.
Crossfire is set in a luxurious resort in the Canary Islands and centers on Jo (Hawes), who is enjoying a dream vacation with her family and friends. Sunbathing on her balcony, the tranquility is thrown into turmoil when shots ring out across the complex from gunmen wreaking revenge.

Stanley Tucci, David Tennant, Dolly Wells and Lydia West have been set as the leads of Steven Moffat’s upcoming drama series “Inside Man,” which will air on BBC One in the U.K. and Netflix in the U.S., BBC Studios said Thursday.
Starring Tucci in the title role of the Inside Man, the four-part miniseries “follows a prisoner on death row in the US, a Vicar in a quiet English town, and a math teacher trapped in a cellar, as they cross paths in the most unexpected way.”
Per BBC Studios, filming on the show — marks the latest BBC Studios project that Netflix has boarded, having previously partnered on Moffat’s “Dracula,” among other series — will take place later this year.
“Inside Man” is created and written by Moffat, directed by Paul McGuigan, with Alex Mercer as producer. Executive producers include Vertue for Hartswood Films and Ben Irving for the BBC.

Exclusive: Netflix has boarded its latest BBC drama, taking the international rights to Steven Moffat’s limited series Inside Man, which has assembled a stellar above-the-line cast ahead of production taking place later this year.
Deadline can reveal that Oscar-nominated Supernova and Spotlight star Stanley Tucci has been set in the title role of the Inside Man, while he will be joined by Doctor Who and Des actor David Tennant, and The Pursuit of Love and Dracula star Dolly Wells. Considering how ludicrously successful the cross medium-spanning superhero genre has become (mostly through the rise of Marvel and DC’s filmic output), each and every one of the following developers must be kicking themselves that they didn’t see it coming.
Partly due to the only truly brilliant superhero games being either Spider-Man 2 and its wonderfully fun swinging mechanics, or Rocksteady’s phenomenal Batman: Arkham trilogy, there are only a handful of titles that really nail your favourite heroes’ abilities. In fact, superheroes created by and for the industry tend to be way better experiences overall, with guys like Infamous’ Cole McGrath, Prototype’s Alex Mercer or even God of War’s Kratos all having awesome origin stories, dogged drives to succeed and morally grey compasses forever twitching to and fro.

For whatever reason she tends to attract wackos, and Rihanna has another stalker alternately named either Ralph Alexander or Alex Mercer.
According to reports, the “Talk that Talk” singer’s creeper showed up at her home in April and took a selfie outside that he then posted via social media along with the tweet, “Should of killed @rihanna a minute back I would be good right now. Sorcery is a weapon I use guns, bout to get a gun license, can’t use my hands.”
In June, Mr. Stalker was at it again, tweeting, “Imma marry @rihanna Lord willing #somebody might die or something.” As a result, the police have opened an investigation into Mercer’s alleged activities and hopefully they’ll make an arrest soon!

You have to commend a publisher when they’re confidant enough to give gamers a chance to play thirty minutes of gameplay several months in advance of a title’s release. It’s even more commendable, when you do it twice, across three distinct character campaigns – with new levels each time. Top it off with the knowledge that the development team actually listened to and acted on preview complaints about inversion controls, and I’ll be the first to raise a glass to toast the Resident Evil 6 development team. Now, if only the cover system can be upgraded, I’d be in bliss.
For those who don’t know, Resident Evil 6 features three distinct campaigns bundled into one game. Perhaps you’d expect for graphics or combat to be sacrificed, but from our initial previews, animations are fluid, textures are crisp and gameplay is as good as you would expect from the Resident Evil franchise.

It's been three years since Activision and developer Radical Entertainment unleashed the first Prototype onto the world. And the time since has seen the passing of nearly a third of the current console generation. So has this open world sci-fi action game been able to evolve with the times, or is trapped in the primordial ooze of good ideas and poor execution?
The Basics
Following the escape of Prototype's mutated reluctant hero Alex Mercer, the virus that mutated him has spread throughout New York, turner into into a plague zone full of mutant beasts and shambling ex-humans. The military and corporate entity Gentek have swept in to keep order and contain the outbreak, but of course, Gentek has more on its mind than simple containment.

2009's Prototype was an unexpected bio-horror blast, mixing the open world mayhem of Grand Theft Auto with a super powered protagonist that skipped on the razor's edge of morality in the quest to fill in the gaps in his amnesiac mind. It provided an excellent mystery rife with personal and historical revelations, all wrapped up in a gooey, monstrous wrapper. A sequel was inevitable, but a follow up presents an interesting series of problems, mainly in the character of Alex Mercer and the nature of the virus that ravaged his body. By the end of the first Prototype, Mercer was a hyper-evolved demigod, swarming with the grotesque power that the Blacklight virus gave him. For a sequel to present a new...

Chicago – Remember when sequels of any kind were viewed with disdain? No, you don’t, because you aren’t old enough. Of course, now we have a situation where sequels, reboots and even simple rehashes are often better than what spawned them. In the case of “Prototype 2,” a number after the title is definitely better. That said, it’s also noticeable that the more you play the game, it’s the middle of a larger story. Like the middle of many stories, it feels a bit dull at times. Overall, this is tailor-made for “Prototype” fans. While it doesn’t deliver on every little thing it promises, it offers an even bigger opportunity for players to throw on the mantle of god-likeness and wage some serious war.

The virus is back. The sequel to Radical’s hugely enjoyable original takes place once more in New York (though this time it carries a new “Zero” tag at the end), which is over-run by a new virus, which has turned the place into a bloody, gorey shitstorm. Along with the new virus, we also get a new protagonist in virally-modified James Heller and a new villain in the familiar shape of infected former hero Alex Mercer. Heller is driven by vengeance, thanks to the virus killing his family, and his sense that Mercer was to blame, turning his back on a good life to hunt and potentially destroy his prey, with the help of his own, more impressive infection.

As free-roaming carnage simulator Prototype 2 nears its imminent launch, Activision has taken a unique ‘world first’ approach with its advertising for the game.
Taking place in London’s Covent Garden, live actors took the parts of Alex Mercer and new protagonist James Heller, clashing in a gruesome live battle. The staged advert was streamed on the official Prototype Facebook page on Sunday night, and restricted to over 18’s only due to its gory content.
Viewers were even given the opportunity to vote for one of two different endings, with the one which received the most votes being included in the finale of the event.
My time spent with the original Prototype has given me faith that the sequel in development is bound for greatness. Prototype 2 has appeared to evolve the destructively playful brutality of the first installment. Radical Entertainment has given us 11 reasons to believe it.
The first run through of the original game world as Alex Mercer was something of pure fun. Making players feel they were powerful was the key component in creating gameplay that remembered video games are still games, and focusing in on the core idea of being fun to play.
Sadly, for me it felt the initial “wow factor” that gave you a fresh jolt of energy for action games, fell just short of avoiding repetition. Players could feel they were powerful simply by having a small play session. After extended sessions however, each button press slowly became a chore. This resulted in smaller play sessions again.

Last week in Las Vegas during the Dice summit, Activision invited people to check out the first hour of their upcoming Prototype 2. This was complete and unfettered access to the experience, hands-on and with no one telling you what you could and couldn't do. As it turns out, the game takes care of most of that for you. Throughout the first 15 to 20 minutes of the game, you're driving newcomer Sergeant James Heller through a training course, learning how the controls work and seeing his horror of a world unfolding in front of him after the man who apparently killed his wife and daughter infects him with the same Blacklight Virus that gave Mercer his powers.
Unfortunately, the promised Mercer vs. Heller "Murder Your Maker" storyline that was teased when the game was announced back in 2010 never surfaced during this first hour of the game, and Heller actually looks like he's...

Activision's Prototype is no stranger to the 4-color treatment, having received a comic adaptation courtesy of DC's Wildstorm imprint back when the first game was released. Now, in preparation for the springtime release of Prototype 2, Dark Horse Comics are releasing a 3-part miniseries that bridges the two games. More details from Joystiq after the break. The three comics will be released digitally via Dark Horse's website, and each focus on a different aspect of the Prototype mythology. The first issue follows the exploits of the mutated Alex Mercer, the second centers on a group of survivors, and the third introduces us to Sgt. James Heller, who we'll be playing as in Prototype...

Chicago – Last week, we gave you a list of the top ten video games of 2011. With a list that included “Arkham City,” “Dead Space 2,” “Portal 2,” “Skyrim,” and “Uncarted 3” 2011 definitely had some highlights, but, as mentioned in the previous article, 2011 will not go down as one of the greatest years in game history. There were some very fine games, but overall, games seemed to be lacking a bit…at least compared to 2010.
But now we turn the calendar over and start up a new year. With tons of new releases coming our way, there are definitely a great series of games to look forward to. “Halo” fans are sure to be excited about a new game in the series, there is the possibility that “Grand Theft Auto: V” could be released this year, and if the trend stays consistent, there will be a new “Call of Duty” release come November. But...

Radical Entertainment's Design Director Matt Armstrong began his career in the video game industry over 13 years ago working on the seminal classic Final Fantasy VII as a Qa Tester. A few short weeks of this was enough to convince Matt that his future lay more in the creative arts, and he soon found himself working as a 3D modeler, texture artist and animator before eventually finding himself drawn into the world of game design. Since then, Matt has worked in senior design positions at Blitz Games, Rockstar Games and Radical Entertainment, culminating in his current role as Design Director for Prototype 2.
Fun Fact: I have been told that Matt has a serious and disturbing obsession with the Mass Effect franchise and into double figures for the combined number of times he has completed them. Matt is also bravely weaning himself away from this addiction by sticking to a strict, doctor-prescribed regimen of fine Canadian beer.

Prototype 2 has seen its first real bit of media come out in the form of a micro-documentary/trailer that explains not only the new hero, James Heller, but reveals its new villain…Alex Mercer? The hero from the first game? Huh? Check it out after the break. The trailer, on loan from Destructoid, reveals that not only is the morally ambiguous Alex Mercer no longer the protagonist, but he's now an antagonist in Prototype 2. This is a surprising turn of events, although not that surprising given the fact that Alex Mercer was basically an unrepentant sociopath throughout the first Prototype. The best part of the trailer is the gameplay, which looks to be like the first game cranked up to 11,...

He'll actually be the Enemy this time, pursued across the healing streets of a virus-wracked Manhattan by the grief-stricken military veteran, Sergeant James Heller. As we learned previously, Heller is freshly back from a tour overseas when he learns that his family was killed in the aftermath of the virus' spread through New York City. Mercer is blamed for those events, and he is also the one responsible for infecting Heller at the start of the game. The rest of the story unfolds around Heller's pursuit, and his attempts to destroy his maker.

Alex Mercer returns later this year for "Prototype 2," but not how you'd expect. As we learned last week, Mercer is the villain this time around. He'll be facing off against Sergeant James Heller, freshly back from a tour of duty overseas and looking for revenge over the death of his family in the wake of Mercer's gyrations about New York City in the first game. None of that has any bearing on today's news, however, which features a new trailer showing off the quiet beauty of flight and the messy aftermath of a high-speed landing.
"Flight" in this case is one very unfortunate soldier being flung from the rooftop of a building by what is certainly an exceedingly pissed off Heller. It's hard to say what the poor soul could have done to deserve such a fate, but it's fun to marvel at his imminent virtual doom as he soars...

"Prototype" was a good game that came out at a bad time. Hitting shelves almost at the same moment as the PlayStation 3-exclusive "inFamous," the end result was two superpower-driven open-world action games competing for gamers' attentions.
