Coco Gauff is returning to her Cincinnati Open approach ahead of her match against Iga Swiatek at the 2024 Roland Garros, because that's the only place where she bested the Polish player.
The two players have faced each other 11 times in Wta Tour-level matches so far, with the Polish player winning 10 of those. The tenth win came not too long ago in Rome, and it was just one of many lopsided wins for Swiatek.
Gauff has a Swiatek problem, and solving it will be very tough, considering how well the Polish player has played so far this year. The American has also been pretty solid, but given how things have gone in the past, she will be entering their semi-final match as an underdog.
Speaking ahead of the match, Gauff admitted that she would approach it the same way she approached their match in Cincinnati, and that does not ignore what happened in the past.

Iga Swiatek felt honored and humbled to be mentioned in the same band as 22-time women's Grand Slam champion Steffi Graf.
Graf is considered one of the best female tennis players of all time and holds a multitude of tennis records, some of which have stood the test of time. She held the No. 1 ranking for a total of 377 weeks, which is a record on the Wta Tour.
The German tennis icon is the only player across both tours to have won the calendar Golden Slam, the colossal achievement of winning all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal in the same year.
Graf became a fan favorite during her career and built a reputation as the most dominant champion of her generation thanks to her incredible forehand, exceptional work ethic, and supreme athleticism.
It's not a surprise that Swiatek, the current Wta No. 1, has been compared to Graf...

Iga Swiatek played another match at the 2024 Roland Garros, and it was once again a crushing victory, as Marketa Vondrousova couldn't find any answers in two sets.
The Wta's world no. 1 has been utterly impressive this clay season, winning back-to-back trophies in Madrid and Rome. Not many expected her to play even better in Paris, not because she couldn't, but because it seemed almost impossible, but she did just that by thrashing opponents in most of her matches.
The only showing in which she had troubles was against Naomi Osaka, but that was more about the Japanese player being brilliant than Swiatek playing badly.
In the quarter-final, she faced reigning Wimbledon champion and former Roland Garros finalist Vondrousova, and the match wasn't even close. Handing a bagel to a fellow major winner, a top-five seed at the event who is also a reigning Grand Slam champion, is pretty crazy,...

Iga Swiatek served a double bagel to Anastasia Potapova at the 2024 Roland Garros, and Marketa Vondrousova will want to avoid that fate and possibly do even more.
The world no. 1 has been playing absolutely amazing tennis at the French Open so far. She's hoping to win her fourth French Open this year, and if she keeps playing like she did in the previous round, she will likely do it.
Her tennis is absolutely crushing opponents right now, and nobody looks particularly close in level. Standing between Swiatek and another trophy are a few players, the first of whom is Vondrousova.
She is a former Roland Garros finalist herself and a fellow major winner, as the Czech player is a wonderful clay player whose very tricky game can cause many problems for many players, including Swiatek.
She'll be able to counter the Polish player occasionally, but she'll need more than that...

Iga Swiatek seemed in a bit of a rush in the fourth round of the 2024 Roland Garros, as she thrashed her opponent in 40 minutes, 6-0, 6-0.
Double bagel wins do happen in tennis, but they're very rare, happening barely, almost never on the men's side and occasionally on the women's side of the sport. The Polish no. 1 is no stranger to them, though, as she famously handed one out in the final in Rome a few years ago.
That was against former world no. 1 Karolina Pliskova no less, and it took less than an hour to complete, and her match in Paris was similar. The opponent was Anastasia Potapova, and it also took much less than an hour to complete.
Already before the season's only clay-court major, it was clear that Swiatek was the best player on the red dirt and the biggest favorite to win the tournament, but every...

Ons Jabeur is known as a very good and very cheerful tennis player but behind the contagious smile is a dedicated worker who endured quite a few unfortunate events.
Jabeur's story is pretty well-known to most tennis fans. A trailblazer from Tunisia who hopes to inspire across the Arab world. It took her a long time to work herself to the top of the Wta Tour, but she's made it and is certainly one of the best players in the world.
Getting there took a lot of hard work and hardships, but she's powered through with a bubbly personality that allowed her to keep smiling in spite of all of that. The first Grand Slam tournament of the 2024 season is on the horizon, and the entry list for the women's edition of the Australian Open has been released.
Running from January 14th to 28th, next year's Australian Open will have a historic Sunday start. One hundred twenty-eight women will compete in the biggest party of Australian summer, but only one player will be lucky enough to emerge from the fortnight with the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup.
The Australian Open is played on outdoor hard courts at its famed home - Melbourne Park. It's been ten years since there was a successful title defense in the women's tournament, so is that trend likely to continue, or will Belarus Aryna Sabalenka defend the crown she won 12 months ago?

The 2024 Adelaide International, is the last Wta 500 tournament before the first major of the season, and it will run from January 8th to 13th, as we already know the draw.
Before the first Grand Slam of the season - the Australian Open, women are treated to two Wta 500 tournaments, which give them a chance to accumulate a total of 1000 points, which is almost as much as the runner-up finish is worth in Melbourne.
The runner-up finish is something that Elena Rybakina achieved at the Australian Open in 2023, and that's also maybe one of the reasons, why she's one of the few players that elected to take part in both of these Wta 500 tournaments, to make up for points that she may loss in the Melbourne Park.

Angelique Kerber will head the Adelaide International, not just as an alternate but as a main draw contender in the second Wta 500 event of the brand-new tennis season.
The 2024 Adelaide International will kick off on January 8th and run till January 13th, a day before the Australian Open. Several players ranked in the world's Top 20 have already confirmed their participation at the event, including Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Marketa Vondrousova.
Kerber is currently part of Germany's team competing in the second edition of the United Cup. The 35-year-old returned to action for the first time since 2022 Wimbledon in Sydney, where Germany qualified for the quarterfinal as the best runner-up in the city.
They'll face one of the tournament favorites, Greece, who are led by the effervescent pair of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari on Friday. Kebrer has accounted for two losses in singles against Italy's Jasmine Paolini and France's Caroline Garcia.

Novak Djokovic will once again need to push Serbia to the finish line as he had to win both of his matches against the Czech Republic to advance at the 2024 United Cup.
The Czechs are a tricky opponent, especially with the reigning Wimbledon champion, Marketa Vondrousova, leading their team. She showed why she's the leader, beating Serbia's Olga Danilovic in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

His opponent was Jiri Lehecka, who is capable of causing an upset, but going into this match, the Czech player was on a four-match losing streak, and it didn't seem that the 24-time Grand Slam champion would be a man against whom he would end it.

Iga Swiatek once again proved to be a dominant force in 2023, but her reign was seriously challenged and will be challenged again in 2024.
2022 was a spectacular year for Iga Swiatek who played amazing tennis all year long. 2023 was, in many ways, a more impressive year because she overcame quite a few obstacles and still came out on top despite several players improving their level.

Vondrousova demonstrated tremendous tennis skills years ago when she reached the French Open final. She lost that one to Jelena Ostapenko, but it was only a matter of time before she got another chance.
She was simply that good. It took her a very long time, though, as it only happened several years after that achievement and not in the place where you'd expect. She's generally regarded as a pretty strong clay player with a very good hard-court level as well.
Even so, her maiden Grand Slam trophy came on grass. That was a major shock to her and everybody else because she's never been known as a good grass player.

Marketa Vondrousova and Elina Svitolina are the biggest favorites to win the prestigious Wta Comeback Player of the Year award after the list of nominees was released.
As the Wta Tour rests after 11 months of intense competition, it's time to hand out the post-season accolades. The Wta does a good job of honoring some of the players in its customary annual awards in five categories.
One of those is the Wta Comeback Player of the Year award which recognizes the forgotten women on tour who enjoyed a resurgence this season. The five-woman shortlist has been determined and it is led by Vondrousova.
What a difference a year makes. At this time last year, the 24-year-old Czech had just won a W100 title in Shrewsbury. It was her breakthrough comeback tournament after a torrid year was hindered by a wrist injury.
Nobody doubted her talent, but could Vondrousova stay fit for a whole season?...

Ons Jabeur endured more heartbreak this year by losing in the Wimbledon final, but she's backed to finally get it done in 2024 by former Wta player Martina Navratilova.
The career of Ons Jabeur has been fascinating to observe. She is a late bloomer struggling to find her footing early on in her career. With time and hard work, Jabeur worked her way to the top of tennis, where she's been for a few years now.
She belongs at the top as she made her way to three Grand Slam finals so far in her career but lost all of them. It was pretty heartbreaking, especially the Wimbledon one this year, as she faced a player who was not known as a great grass player.

After 11 months of entertainment and intense competition, the 2023 Wta season came to an end this past week.
Iga Swiatek played second fiddle in the Wta Live Race in 43 of 44 weeks but sprinted to the finish line in the final lap ahead of Aryna Sabalenka who can count herself unfortunate not to hold onto the No. 1 ranking. Going to the Wta Finals, just 630 points separated the world's top two.
The math was very simple. If Swiatek defeated Sabalenka and won the Wta Finals she would reclaim the No. 1 ranking that she momentarily lost after the US Open. The Pole did just that, beating Sabalenka in a one-off semifinal in Cancun and demolishing Jessica Pegula in the title match.
Swiatek pipped Sabalenka to the top spot by just 245 points. The Belarusian will have to do it all over again in Australia at the start of next year where she will defend 2,500 points in January.

Leylah Fernandez has joined forces with Gabriela Dabrowski to beat Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, and send Canada into the final at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
The 21-year-old Canadian has shown great form on the Wta Tour in recent weeks. She was on a seven-match win streak, and funnily enough, it was Katerina Siniakova who snapped that streak.
But that didn't matter much for Fernandez as she proved to be in incredible form at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Seville. First, beating Sara Sorribes Tormo, then overcoming Magda Linette, before besting also Marketa Vondrousova.
The Canadian won all three of her singles matches at the tournament, but with the semifinal tie against the Czech Republic levelled at 1-1 after two singles matches, she needed to step up once again if she wanted to see her country play in the final.

Leylah Fernandez is a real Mvp for Team Canada at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, beating Marketa Vondrousova to keep the country's hopes of reaching the final alive.
Only recently, the Canadian was on a seven-match winning streak, and while that streak ended, she came to Seville for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, and displayed her form to every opponent from Spain to Poland and, most recently, also the Czech Republic.
After eliminating the United States, in a victory to which Marketa Vondrousova contributed with a crucial win, the Czechs took on an inspired Canada, who were in great form ahead of the semifinal tie, not losing a single match before.
That changed in the first match of the semifinal tie, when Marina Stakusic lost to Barbora Krejcikova who proved to be too strong for the 18-year-old, who was a crucial piece in the puzzle for Canada.

The USA is out of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals as the Czech Republic beat them in the crucial tie, sending their country to the semi-finals.
It was a mammoth job to begin with because the Czech Republic really needed only one win from singles to give them the best shot to win the tie. They were always strongly favored in doubles, because they had Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova playing.
They are not only one of the best doubles pairings in the world, but they play together all the time, which means the chemistry is great. That's a rare thing to have. So Danielle Collins won the first important match; however, Sofia Kenin had no chance against Marketa Vondrousova in the second.
The US team even tried some tricks by changing the nomination late to give Collins and Townsend some leverage; however, it didn't work because they just...

Marketa Vondrousova did what she was supposed to do by beating Sofia Kenin to keep her Czech Republic in play at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
The last time we saw Marketa Vondrousova play was recently at the Wta Finals, where she played pretty badly, but she didn't like the court very much there.
Back in Europe and indoors, Vondrousova looked much more comfortable in a must-win match for her Czech Republic. Danielle Collins gave the US its first point in this crucial tie, but now it's 1-1.
The doubles a bit later will determine who moves on to the semi-finals, and the Czech Republic will have Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova on the courts, a very strong doubles team.
When it comes to this match, it was pretty much a no-contest. The Czech player proved her status as one of the best players this year by completely smashing Kenin,...

Iga Swiatek won this year's Wta Finals and truncated Coco Gauff's huge lead in the Olympics Race.
The Polish star reclaimed the World No. 1 ranking after besting the eight-woman field in Cancun, Mexico, to win the prestigious season-ending championships for the first time. Swiatek walked away with the full 1,500 points on offer for going undefeated during the week.
Her dominant title win was historic for a number of reasons. At 22, she became the youngest Wta Finals champion in 12 years and broke Serena Williams' decade-long record of dropping the fewest games to win the title by some margin (only lost 20 games).
Among the impressive feats she conjured in Cancun, Swiatek's performance in the final match was simply breathtaking. She completed a rout over World No. 5 Jessica Pegula, in the most one-sided championship match in Wta Finals history.

Paula Badosa is the latest player from the women's tour who spoke about the controversy surrounding this year's Wta Finals.
The women's year-end championships in Cancun came under intense scrutiny and criticism from pundits and fans. Some of the players who competed at the tournament did not conceal their disapproval and condemned the abject playing conditions and the state of the court.
In fact, the main court for this year's tournament was constructed just a few weeks leading up to the tournament and it was only completed a day before the start of play. The world's top eight singles players and doubles teams had to use makeshift hotel courts during practice.
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova did not hold back in calling out the Wta leadership team, notably the CEO Steve Simon, and stated that a change is needed within the hierarchy. Some of the Wta players who made their feelings known include Aryna Sabalenka,...

Iga Swiatek broke a decade-long record held by Serena Williams at the Wta Finals in style as she romped to win her first year-end championship.
Swiatek conceded the fewest games (20) during her title-winning week in Cancun, Mexico, thereby trumping Serena's record by some margin. Since the event switched to a round-robin format back in 2003, it was Williams who lost the fewest games (32) en route to the 2012 title in Istanbul, Turkey.
Like Williams, Swiatek did not lose a match at the tournament and did not relinquish a single set. The Polish star also made history by ceding just one game in the final match against Jessica Pegula, beating the records of 1983 and 2003 finals.
Aside from Serena Williams, only three other players feature in the list of having fewer than 40 games. These are Kim Clijsters (37 in 2003), Justine Henin (34 in 2007), and Caroline Wozniacki (34 in 2017). Swiatek has beaten all these names and is...

Iga Swiatek is back on her perch once again after a successful week in Cancun, Mexico, culminating with a Monday final, which she won in devastating fashion.
The Polish star won the Wta Finals for the first time in her career and reclaimed the World No. 1 from Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek ends the season with 9,295 points, beating the Belarusian to top spot by a mere 245 points in one of the tightest finishes to a Wta season.
19-year-old Coco Gauff will crown her breakthrough year at Grand Slam level with a Top 3 year-end ranking. The American young sensation won her maiden major title at the US Oepn and was a semifinalist at this year's season finale in Cancun.
Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula complete the Top 5. Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova failed to qualify from their group but still finished sixth and seventh in the rankings. Czech players dominate the world's Top 20.

Doubles partners Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff will fight for a spot in the 2023 Wta Finals, and it's going to be a good one.
This is a rather interesting matchup that we haven't seen that often. We've seen them on the same tennis court often, but it's for doubles as we only saw three matches between them.
It's been a solid week for both players, as they actually won matches. Last year's finals were dreadful for both as neither won a single match, singles or doubles. It's been better this time around despite the very complicated conditions that were particularly annoying for Gauff in her most recent match.
She faced Marketa Vondrousova and won , but the match was abandoned multiple times because of rain and featured heavy winds for much of it. It was really tough playing, and expect that to be the case today as well because the weather is not cooperating.

Coco Gauff will be playing in her maiden semifinals at the Wta Finals after she qualified thanks to multiple things going her way.
The easiest way to qualify for the semifinals at the Wta Finals is to win all three round-robin matches, but because all of the players competing are in the Top 8, it's not that simple. Yet, Iga Swiatek managed to do that this year , and so did Jessica Pegula.
But Gauff's journey wasn't so simple. She lost to Iga Swiatek , and because of that, she wasn't certain to make it to the semifinals, especially after she lost the opening set of the match against Marketa Vondrousova.
Eventually, the American won in three sets , but she still needed Ons Jabeur not to win her match in two sets . That didn't happen, meaning that the 19-year-old made it to her maiden Wta Finals semifinal.
It marks her best-ever Wta Finals participation.

Iga Swiatek will be playing in the 2023 Wta Finals semifinal, and all she needed was a little help from Marketa Vondrousova.
The Polish player had a great start to her 2023 Wta Finals campaign, securing a commanding win over Marketa Vondrousova , and then doing the same thing against Coco Gauff in her second match .
Because of how the Wta Finals format works (round-robin stage), thanks to dominant wins, Swiatek had nearly a 100% chance of advancing, yet, for things to be official, she needed to wait for the conclusion of the match between Coco Gauff and Marketa Vondrousova.
However, she eventually didn't have to do that, as the Czech player won the opening set before losing the match , so already after the first set of play, Swiatek knew she was into the semifinals, as there was no scenario that would see her outside of the Top 2 places in her group.

Less than a month ago, it was reported that a high number of Top 20 players table a formal letter to the Wta with a list of demands.
Chief among those demands was the subject of prize money and improvement in players' welfare. The report has been verified by the Athletic who confirmed that a three-page document, single-spaced letter was ratified by at least 20 of the leading Wta players.
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka together with Grand Slam champions Elena Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova led the revolt by affixing their signatures following meetings held in the early days of October at the China Open.
Some of these players have joined Novak Djokovic's breakaway players' union, Ptpa, and requested in the letter to the Wta for it to be formally recognized on the Wta Player Board through a representative, in order "to improve transparency and communication."

Coco Gauff defeated Marketa Vondrousova in her last round-robin match at the Wta year-end competition, the 2023 Wta Finals .

Coco Gauff still can make it to the semifinals at the 2023 Wta Finals, and that's thanks to the unique format of the competition.
After confidently crushing Ons Jabeur in her first round-robin match , the 19-year-old faced problems against her old nemesis, Iga Swiatek, who beat her in two sets in her second match at the 2023 Wta Finals .
However, thanks to the unique format of the year-end Wta competition, the American still has a chance to qualify for the semifinals. On top of that, thanks to her convincing win over Jabeur, her chances are quite high.
Up next, Gauff is set to take on Marketa Vondrousova , who lost both of her matches so far, with her latest defeat coming to Jabeur on Wednesday . The Czech player lost all four sets she played, with her set record standing at 0-4.
And that may be the crucial stat, deciding the tie between multiple players.

There is a very good chance that Coco Gauff wins this match and secures her place in the next round of the Wta Finals . She's arguably the better player between these two and certainly looked far more comfortable in the opening round match of either.
Gauff smashed Ons Jabeur easily in two sets, while Vondrousova couldn't do much against Iga Swiatek . Even if it looks very simple at first glance, there is some nuance to it. Obviously, the way the court plays suits Gauff far better.
Her versatility as a player allows her to play both attacking and defensive tennis equally well. That, with the bouncy conditions, gives her an edge in pretty much any matchup. Even so, she can be beaten, as Iga...
There is a very good chance that Coco Gauff wins this match and secures her place in the next round of the Wta Finals . She's arguably the better player between these two and certainly looked far more comfortable in the opening round match of either.

Ons Jabeur lost a few times to Marketa Vondrousova this year, but she won at the 2023 Wta Finals quite comfortably.
Vondrousova handed Jabeur one of the toughest defeats of her career when she bested her earlier this year at Wimbledon. It was a match Jabeur was widely expected to win, but it didn't happen.
She finally got her revenge at the Wta Finals , and it was a pretty convincing win for the Tunisian. Her first match against Gauff a few days ago was not good , as she was all over the place.
Today was kind of similar, but she was still far better than Vondrousova, who struggled immensely the entire day. She wasn't very good against Iga Swiatek either , so this isn't a huge surprise.
Control was the biggest problem, as she couldn't find the right angles on anything. Her serve was off as she committed a few double faults.

It's a new week, but Coco Gauff 's dominance in the Olympics Race shows no signs of waning.
The American teenager superstar has earned 4,200 points since the race began in mid-June, thanks largely to her three title triumphs on US hard courts which included a maiden Grand Slam title in New York . Gauff leads second-placed Iga Swiatek by 1,340 points ahead of the Wta Finals.
Marketa Vondrousova is in third place and is currently the Czech Republic's top-ranked player. The bulk of her 2,835 points came from her shock Wimbledon success in July . The lefty is ahead of World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka by just 30 points.
Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys are two of three American women inside the Top 10 in the Olympics Race (along with Gauff). One nation can only be represented by a maximum of four of its best-ranked players in the 64-player draw.
African hopes will be shouldered by Tunisia's...

Marketa Vondrousova added her name to the list of players disappointed by the 2023 Wta Finals in Cancun and the way the event is staged.
Vondrousova probably grew up with talk of the Wta Finals being this amazing experience for all involved, and yet her first experience with the event hasn't gone so well so far.
Like many other players, Vondrousova was disappointed to see the end result. She worked hard all year long to be able to play at this event, and then it's one of the worst organized tournaments in the entire calendar.
For an event that's supposed to be the celebration of the best players in the world, that's just unacceptable.
My first Wta finals is not at all what I imagined. We work hard all year to get to the finals & in the end it's just a disappointment. The stadium is not at all ready for the...

Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova contested a really big match earlier this year, and now we'll see another one at the 2023 Wta Finals in Cancun.
The match in question was the Wimbledon final, which is still the most heartbreaking loss of Jabeur's career. She talked about it a few times after that match, admitting that she simply should have won it , and she was right.
She lost to a player who admitted her expectations as being a quick round-one loss, but either way, Vondrousova is a very good player. She's not just someone who stumbled into winning Wimbledon. She played well and won it deservedly.
Head-to-head:
The Wimbledon match was the most recent one they played, but it's not the only one. They actually played seven matches so far, including three this year, and funnily enough, Vondrousova won all of them. She bested Jabeur at the Australian Open to start the year.

Iga Swiatek had a really shaky start against Marketa Vondrousova at the 2023 Wta Finals, but she ultimately won the match in two sets.
Something similar to this happened at the Cincinnati Masters , where they played last time, and much like that match, this, too, ended with a win for the Polish player.
Vondrousova greatly troubled Swiatek in that match but ultimately lost the opening set in the tiebreak, and the same thing happened to her in Cancun at the 2023 Wta Finals .
Swiatek was just very erratic to start the match, totaling 15 unforced errors in just a few games of play. She would finish the opening set without committing much more and win it in the tie-break 7-3. She finished with 14 winners overall, much better than the five that Vondrousova had.
The second set opened with an early break for the Pole. By that time, she was fully in rhythm and...

Ons Jabeur has played three Grand Slam finals so far in her career, but she didn't win a single one, and she's particularly regretful about the last one she played.
Ons Jabeur dreams of becoming the first African player to win a Grand Slam title. She also wants to become the first Arab player to win the trophy, and so far, she played in three finals.
That's a pretty decent amount, considering that most players never even play in the Grand Slam final. The first one came at Wimbledon last year, and Jabeur won the opening set against Elena Rybakina.
She looked on the verge of getting it done but then lost the second set and, ultimately, the final one. The second chance came later that year (2022) at the US Open. She faced world number one Iga Swiatek in the final and failed to win it once again.

Iga Swiatek hopes to finish off the year on a high note at the Wta Finals, and challenger number one is Marketa Vondrousova .
The Czech player had a surprisingly good year overall that saw her win her maiden Grand Slam. She contested a Grand Slam final before losing at Roland Garros a few years ago, but winning Wimbledon was the most shocking thing that happened on the Wta Tour.
She's not known as a grass player, and she expected a swift exit but went all of the way. That, coupled with other good performances, allowed her to book a spot at the Wta Finals , where she'll face Swiatek in the first match.
Head-to-head:
They played before with the Polish player winning all the matches. The two that happened a few years ago are not that important because things changed for both since then.
The one in Cincinnati this year is an interesting one to observe.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has fired the first warning shot to Coco Gauff and she wants a rematch of their US Open final bout that was won by the American.
Gauff came from a set down to beat the Belarusian and win her first Grand Slam . She became the youngest American teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams over 20 years ago. The result culminated in mesmeric rise into the world's Top 3 for the 19-year-old who put together a near-perfect summer on home soil.
While the limelight shone on Gauff in that final, Sabalenka didn't have a pleasant experience, losing her first Grand Slam final. The two players have not crossed paths since that match, and have avoided each other in the group phase of this year's Wta Finals following Friday's draw.
Sabalenka, playing in the season finale for a third year in a row, drew Gauff's compatriot and doubles partner Jessica Pegula,...

The draw for the 2023 Wta Finals has been released, in which the race for the No. 1 ranking will be determined.
Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek will contest one last sprint to the finish line in Cancun, but there is a trophy to win and a whopping $3,024,000 in prize money for the undefeated champion .
Sabalenka and Swiatek learned before the draw ceremony that they wouldn't be paired in the same group because they were drawn from the same pots . But the draw is set to rekindle some exciting rematches.
The Wta Finals usually begin in the round-robin phase, where two groups of four players will vie to finish in the top two. The top finishers in each group will face the second-placed players in the other group in the semifinal (knockout phase).
Bacalar Group
