I was set to cover Black Lotus when it was released in the UK a month from now when, to my surprise, a friend announced it was our movie watch for the weekend. It seems it was released over here with pretty much zero publicity, which is never a good sign. But his enthusiasm “It’s got Frank Grillo and a seven-foot Mma fighter!” won me over. And since I was going to be watching it now, I figured I might as well write it up now as well.
Armed men have taken the German National Opera hostage and are demanding a three hundred million ransom. Three hundred million what is never mentioned but be it dollars, euros, or marks, they want three hundred million of them.

"There's always something to fight for." The Movie Partnership in the UK has revealed an official trailer for an action thriller film titled Black Lotus, made by a Bulgarian filmmaker named Todor Chapkanov. After opening in The Netherlands last month, it will be available to watch on VOD / digital directly in June this summer - it's skipping theaters. From the looks of it, this is yet another direct-to-video quality action bash with a derivative plot and nothing really new to offer anyway. Rico Verhoeven (who's also a famous Dutch kickboxer) stars as an ex-special forces operative who reecntly lost his good friend on a dangerous mission. He returns to Amsterdam, where he wages a one-man war through the streets of the Dutch city to rescue his friend's daughter from the local crime syndicate that takes her. The main cast includes Marie Dompnier, Peter Franzén, Pippi Casey, and action regular Frank Grillo.

Scott Adkins brings redeemed Russian Mma fighter Yuri Boyka back to the screen for the third time, delivering another helping of blistering bloody bouts of carefully choreographed carnage. Outside the ring, director Todor Chapkanov fails to complement the action with a solid narrative or naturalistic dialogue, but fans of the Undisputed series won’t care one bit. For the late-night action crowd, Boyka: Undisputed is a knockout. Picking up some years after the events in Undisputed III: Redemption, we catch up with the world’s most complete fighter in Kiev, still honing his trade for cash on the underground fight circuit. Boyka (Adkins) has found religion, donating all of his winnings to a local church, but the demons of his past sins continue to haunt him....

Boyka is back, with Scott Adkins once again taking on his most popular role to lay one hell of a beatdown in the upcoming Boyka: Undisputed. This one breaks with the format of the series somewhat with the title character beginning his life and trying to make a name for himself outside of prison but, sure enough, we quickly find ourselves back in tournament fighting mode. Previous director Isaac Florentine slides into a producing role here with the directing reins handed to Todor Chapkanov, and Chapkanov has clearly paid close attention to Florentine's previous work. The After Dark Film Festival will host eight new indie horror features this year. After Dark has already announced that Paul Soter's Dark Circles and the Irish themed Red Clover will participate. Also taking part is Todor Chapkanov's Asylum. This looks like a bloody title involving the supernatural, spirituality and a whole institution run amok. The story is simple. When a troupe of soldiers are sent in a la Aliens, they find the fight of their lives. The first trailer for Asylum is available. In the clip, a small army group must face hundreds of escaped patients. Even the staff seems infected with a powerful and seductive force. Have a look at the clip inside, with the launch of After Dark 2 coming soon. Director: Todor Chapkanov. Perhaps I could be considered a philistine when it comes to vampire flicks but they the majority of them just simply bore me. And with the recent introduction of more vampire romanticism its lowered my expectations even more. Of course every now and again a game changer comes along and completely changes my attitude. However, UFO Films' 'True Bloodthirst' isn't likely to be one of those from looking once agsain at the trailer ahead of its premiere next week on SyFy. The Todor Chapkanov helmed flick, where the title alone borders on copyright infringement, stars Andrew Lee Potts ('Primeval'), Neil Jackson ('Make It or Break It'), Ben Lambert and sexy Spanish hottie Claudia Bassols -belown ('Rob'). 'True Bloodthirst' will screen on SyFy on Saturday 14 July in the Us. You can check the trailer below....

Syfy has a new Original Movie heading our way on Saturday, July 14th, entitled True Bloodthirst; and we have a look at the trailer for the flick, in which humans and vampires must band together against a new hybrid type of super vampire.
True Bloodthirst is directed by Todor Chapkanov, written by Rafael Jordan, and stars Andrew Lee Potts ("Primeval"), Claudia Bassols ("Rob"), Neil Jackson ("Make It or Break It"), and Ben Lambert (Vampyre Nation").
Synopsis:
Bucharest, Romania. The not-too-distant future, but an entirely different city. The human population is dwindling. The vampire population, meanwhile, is exploding. Having emerged from the shadows a decade earlier, vampires now walk openly amongst the human population, as a precarious peace exists between the two. A peace made possible by the introduction of a synthetic blood substitute, dispensed by the Romanian government, making traditional vampire feeding, and preying on humans, no longer necessary. But even so,...

Thor: Hammer Of The Gods
Stars: Zachery Ty Bryan, Mac Brandt, Daz Crawford, Alexis Peters | Written by Steve Bevilacqua, Rafael Jordan | Directed by Todor Chapkanov
Vikings always seem to interest film makers, we’ve had the classic Kirk Douglas movie, we’ve even had the comic Erik the Viking, and we’ve had the 3D “spectacle” that was Beowulf. Now that we have moved into super hero territory with the most recent Thor film we’ll also get the smaller lower budget versions that don’t try to make Thor an alien but the God that he was in the original legends.
In Thor: Hammer of the Gods Thor is in fact a human character who along with a small group of other Vikings including his brothers invades an island looking for riches. All they find though is a group of people who are being terrorised by creatures that could...

It’s hard not to watch this trailer for Vampyre Nation and not get the sense that the makers of the movie watched Daybreakers and wished the film had more to do with characters hunting down those mutant vampire man-bats. And I would agree with them 100% on that point.
Vampyre Nation may not be an Asylum mockbuster of Daybreakers but it sure does sound like it could be.

This is an early look at an upcoming post-apocalyptic vampire thriller titled Vampyre Nation. This film is from the man who made Weather Wars and Monster Wolf, Todor Chapkanov. Vampyre Nation stars Andrew Lee Potts ("Primeval"), Neil Jackson (Push) and Ben Lambert. In the future, vampires and humans live in a cold war atmosphere, where a synthetic blood substitute keeps the bloodsuckers at bay, temporarily. This truce will last for only so long.
Chapkanov's previous films Weather Wars and Monster Wolf were both shown on the SyFy Network and this title will also likely show on this channel, in 2012. This director also completed work on Miami Magma, which was shown on television. Have a look at all the details for this production below, courtesy of UFO International.

The late David Carradine makes one of his final appearances in this monstrous smackdown that sees genetically engineered reptilian rivals escaping their confines and chomping their way through a series of scientists, tourists, and bikini babes in Hawaii. The actors chew the scenery almost as much as the monsters.

Daybreakers and Stake Land have given audiences different views of what a futuristic world overrun by vampires would be like. Now Syfy is gearing up to give us their take on a Vampyre Nation, one that features vampires outnumbering humans, synthetic blood, and a virus that causes vamps to devolve into man-bats. Wait - doesn't that sound just like Daybreakers?
Amid the slate of disaster flicks bound for Syfy, UFO International Pictures recently unveiled for 2011 Vampyre Nation. Here's the mammoth plot synopsis UFO has posted regarding the film's plot:
Bucharest, Romania. The not-too-distant future, but an entirely different city. The human population is dwindling. The vampire population, meanwhile, is exploding. Having emerged from the shadows a decade earlier, vampires now walk openly amongst the human population, as a precarious peace exists between the two. A peace made possible by the introduction of a synthetic blood substitute, dispensed by the Romanian government,...

Remember that final scene from American Werewolf in London where the huge black werewolf, snapping at police and trapped in a corner, glares back at the woman he once loved? Director Todor Chapkanov took that scene and stretched it into a film.Monster Wolf is the lesser known brother of Sharktopus, which came out with considerably more hype. You won't see catchy theme songs about Monster Wolf, clever wordplay, or really anything about Monster Wolf. Heck, with a name as banal as Monster Wolf, it's clear Syfy is pinning its hopes on the flashier, trashier Sharktopus...

Syfy's gearing up for its annual "31 Days of Halloween" by letting the wolf out of the bag, so to speak, with a clip from the October 9th premiere of Monster Wolf. As you may have deduced from just looking at the title, yes, it is indeed about a monster wolf.
A creature of ancient legend manifests, bound to protect the ecological balance of the land and killing anyone that threatens it. This elusive guardian is initially both feared and celebrated by the locals, but when a deadly curse affects them all, they must unite and recapture the monster wolf’s spirit or face their ultimate doom.
The creature is a monster wolf that kills to protect the planet from the scourge of filthy humans that desecrate and pollute it? If only that crazy anti-mankind environmentalist that took the Discovery Channel hostage a week ago could have lived to see this Syfy original!

Zachery Ty Bryan? The eldest son from "Home Improvement"? As Viking superman Thor? Seriously? Is this some sort of sick joke?
Well, kind of. You didn't think I was talking about the upcoming blockbuster based on Marvel Comics' Thor comic book character did you? Oops. I probably should clarify. You see Zachery Ty Bryan will be playing a viking named "Thor" in the upcoming Sci-Fi Channel original movie Hammer of the Gods. Described as "a supernatural action horror set amongst warring vikings," the film deals with an angry Viking who goes to war with the Gods battling giants, trolls, Valkyries, and such.
Produced by the United Film Organization, Hammer of the Gods is directed by Todor Chapkunov (Sci-Fi's surprisingly good Copperhead) from a script by the increasingly prolific Sci-Fi Channel screenwriter Rafael Jordan, the scribe behind Copperhead and this past weekend's Yeti. The film was shot earlier this year in...
