Palestinian poet known for his activist work with the Palestine Liberation Organization. In 1988, Yitzhak Shamir read Darwich's "Passing in Passing Words" to the Israeli parliament as an example of the Palestinians' unwillingness to live alongside Jews. Darwich's supports claim that the poem was misunderstood and mistranslated.
