A year following his passing, Ray Liotta‘s cause of death has been revealed. The 67-year-old actor died in his sleep from pulmonary edema and acute heart failure, according to reports. Documents obtained say the Goodfellas star had fluid in his lungs, suffered from respiratory issues, and his death was “categorized as natural and nonviolent.” Reports also state Liotta was battling atherosclerosis, which builds up thick plaque in the arteries. The New Jersey native died in May 2022 while filming the movie Dangerous Waters in the Dominican Republic. The actor is survived by his fiancée Jacy Nittolo and his now-24-year-old daughter, Karsen. The thriller Dangerous Waters has yet to be released and is directed by John Barr. Eric Dane, Saffron Burrows, and Odeya Rush also co-star. The Cocaine Bear actor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame posthumously in February 2023, with his daughter paying tribute to her father.

Ray Liotta was on an emotional high while filming “Cocaine Bear,” according to Elizabeth Banks.
The late “Goodfellas” actor, who unexpectedly died in his sleep in May 2022, wowed the “Cocaine Bear” cast and crew as production wrapped, delivering a moving speech about what production in Ireland meant to him.
“He wrapped his last scene, and he was covered in blood and guts — and then he gave this beautiful speech,” Banks told Esquire. “He said, ‘I’m adopted. My last name’s Liotta, and because of my career, everybody assumes I’m Italian, but I recently found out that I am actually mostly Irish.’ And we’re in Ireland.”
Banks continued, “He said, ‘So this trip has been so special to me because I didn’t understand the connection that I actually had to this place and to the Irish people. And everybody’s been so nice.’ I could tear up...

Elizabeth Banks had a great experience working with Ray Liotta on her film “Cocaine Bear” before his tragic death in May 2022 at age 67.
A synopsis for the upcoming flick, which is inspired by a true story, reads, “An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converge in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine.”
Banks tells Variety that although she “definitely took gore out” after seeing the first full cut of the film, she didn’t take much out.
She explains how she took particular care with a scene between the cocaine bear and the film’s real villain, a drug dealer played by Liotta.

The late star passed away in his sleep just a week after he rerecorded his dialogue with Banks, the magazine shares.

When Israeli film director Ariel Vromen called up Ray Liotta to join his film, “1992”, the late screen legend had one question.
“In the last five years, Ray was playing softer characters in television and film, so when I called, he said, ‘Is it dirty? Because I want to go down and dirty on this film. It’s been a while!’” Vromen told Et Canada at a preview screening for friends and family at Hollywood’s Harmony Gold theatre on Wednesday. I was like, ‘Perfect.’”
Set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the film follows a custodian played by Tyrese Gibson, who brings his son (portrayed by Christoper Emanual) to work only to become embroiled in a heist orchestrated by a father-son duo played by Liotta and Scott Eastwood.

The late “Goodfellas” icon passed away in his sleep at age 67 while filming “Dangerous Waters” in the Dominican Republic. One of Liotta’s final screen credits is the AppleTV+ limited series “Black Bird” co-starring Taron Egerton, which premieres July 8.
While promoting the series on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Egerton opened up about working with his “hero” Liotta.

A representative for Liotta confirms to IndieWire that the actor passed away in his sleep while filming “Dangerous Waters” in the Dominican Republic. Liotta is survived by his daughter Karsen Liotta. The star was engaged to be married to Jacy Nittolo.
Liotta was best known for portraying the rise and fall of mob man Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 classic, but also made a name for himself thanks to his charming and often menacing contributions to crime cinema beyond “Goodfellas.” He had starring roles in cult classic “Blow” and the “Silence of the Lambs” sequel “Hannibal,” as well as “Killing Them Softly” and “Identity,” always elevating a genre assignment to grittier and often profound places.

Ray Liotta, the intense actor from New Jersey best known for his turn as the hustler turned mob rat Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s GoodFellas, has died. He was 67.
Publicist Jennifer Allen told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor died Wednesday night or early Thursday in his sleep in his hotel room while in the Dominican Republic making the movie Dangerous Waters. His fiancée, Jacy Nittolo, was with him. He had begun work on the film about a week ago.
The boyish, blue-eyed Liotta also was memorable as Ray Sinclair, the violent ex-convict husband of Melanie Griffith’s character, in Jonathan Demme’s Something Wild (1986); as the disgraced Chicago White Sox baseball player Shoeless Joe Jackson in the Kevin Costner starrer Field of Dreams (1989); and as the corrupt cop Matt Wozniak on the 2016-18 NBC cop drama Shades of Blue, opposite Jennifer Lopez.
