"Gabo: The Creation of Gabriel García Márquez," a portrait of the Nobel Prize-winning author who died last year at 87, has been scooped up by indie distributor Icarus Films for North American release. In the latest installment of the Bring Your Own Documentary (Byod) interview series sees host/documentary filmmaker Ondi Timoner interviews Justin Webster, director of the documentary "I Will Be Murdered." In the doc, Webster examines Rodrigo Rosenberg, the Guatemalan lawyer who predicted his own demise at the hands of the Mexican government, with his subsequent murder causing a national uproar. In the interview with Byod, Webster discusses walking the fine line between informing the audience of the political situation that ultimately played a part in Rosenberg's death without getting bogged down in explicating the many factors and issues plaguing the Central American country. "Avatar" won two trophies at the 57th annual Golden Reel Awards given by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse). James Cameron's game-changing sci-fi film took home Best Sound Editing of Music in a Feature Film award and Best Sound Effects and Foley in a Feature.
The Mpse also honored Steven Spielberg with its 2010 Filmmaker Award.
