Spelling Television has cut a deal with Tom Stern to option his newspaper comic strip CEO Dad with an eye toward developing a comedy series. The nationally syndicated comic strip, which is featured in such newspapers as the Seattle Times and the Detroit Free Press, centers on "a man caught between two worlds," Stern said. "At the office, he's in complete control. But at home, he's constantly frustrated because no matter how bad things get, he can't fire his family." Stern, who launched CEO Dad last year, writes the comic strip, while Emmy-winning art director Phyllis Hofberg Bruskin is the strip's artist. It has yet to be determined whether the TV project will be live action or animated, Stern said. Spelling TV confirmed that the project is in the early stages of development but declined further comment. Stern added that he would serve as co-producer on the project. Ed McMahon and his son Jeff also will be involved in a producing capacity, Jeff McMahon confirmed. Stern was repped in the deal by attorney Robin Gorelick.
