Ben Affleck has been one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, and he has also made a mark as an acclaimed filmmaker. Having his breakthrough with the Oscar-winning drama Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Matt Damon, Affleck rose to worldwide stardom as he headlined blockbusters and became a slough-after actor.
Affleck’s tryst with the superhero genre has been bittersweet. While his role as Daredevil has been regarded as cheesy, with the actor himself considering it a mistake, his role as Batman in the Dceu has been divisive. Now, the actor is rumored to be in the running for Doctor Doom in the MCU, which fans seem to be completely against.

Marvel Studios is set to introduce the X-Men/Mutants into the MCU earlier than expected. They were even hinted at in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series in 2022.
Now, it is reported that after leaving the Dceu and the Witcher franchise, Henry Cavill has likely reached an agreement to portray one of two X-Men characters in the MCU. One possibility is Wolverine—the role Hugh Jackman played.

Kool Keith has announced he’s bringing back the pompadour and shades for Black Elvis 2. The long-awaited sequel album arrives on June 16th via Mello Music Group, but you can preview it now with the title track.
The follow-up to Kool Keith’s 1999 cult classic Black Elvis/Lost in Space features a reunion with Marc Live — who collaborated with the rapper on the production of the original album — as well as guest appearances from Ice-t, Raaddrr Van, Dynamite, L’Orange, J. Produced by L’Orange, “Black Elvis 2 (Intro)” features sinister strings and the non sequitur rhymes that Kool Keith fans have come to expect: “Gigantor express, big like a robot/ I walk ’cause I’m so hot/ Back and forth on any tour/ Watch it with my rain pour/ Make it a like headboard.” Stream it below.

With “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” playing out its second weekend in global theatrical release, much of the chatter around the film has focused on its baddie, one of the seemingly countless variants of Jonathan Majors’ Kang. The Marvel marketing machine is pitching the would-be conqueror as the next Thanos-level threat, with appearances in this third “Ant-Man” and the first season finale of “Loki” before getting his name in the title in the summer 2025 release “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
For a look at what makes Jonathan Majors’ Kang a different kind of threat, and a different kind of character from Josh Brolin’s universe-killing Thanos, TheWrap spoke with Jeff Loveness, the screenwriter behind both the recent “Ant-Man” threequel and the upcoming “Avengers” team-up flick.
Loveness spoke about Kang, what he does or doesn’t know about future Kang-centric adventures and why he used the opportunity to give Michelle Pfeiffer an MCU spotlight.

David Jude Jolicoeur, who passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the age of 54, helped revolutionize hip-hop and change the course of popular music. It’s why he’s being mourned so widely in the rap community today, and far beyond it as well. As one-third of De La Soul, alongside Kelvin “Posdnous” Mercer and DJ Vincent “Maseo” Mason, the Haitian American musician and producer who adopted names like “Jude,” “Trugoy the Dove,” “Plug 2,” and, finally, just “Dave” expanded the art form in ways not seen before or since. What is it about Fantastic Four that’s made it such a cursed property as far as movies go? In this episode of Marvel Revisited, we dig into 2005’s Fantastic Four, which was 20th Century Fox’s attempt to spawn another superhero saga that could complement their X-Men movies. While a big enough financial hit to merit a sequel, in hindsight, many consider this to be the nadir of superhero movies. Hilariously, it’s one of several bad Fantastic Four movies, with Roger Corman infamously making an unreleased version in the nineties that was so bad it’s never gotten a legitimate release. Then, of course, there was Josh Trank’s “gritty” version from 2015, which torpedoed a few careers. To many, 2005’s Fantastic Four is considered the worst of the bunch, but what exactly went wrong?
Indeed, the thing people remember most about the movie is the cast, which isn’t all that bad.

One of the standout films from this year’s Tribeca Film Festival was All the Streets Are Silent, a documentary about the intersection between skateboarding and hip-hop in New York in the 1980s and Nineties. On paper, 1990s East Coast hip-hop has been dissected ad infinitum in countless books, TV shows and films — for a certain age, the culture defined their teenage years more than anything else.
But director Jeremy Elkin, a veteran of skate films who grew up (and continues to be) obsessed with hip-hop, finds fresh material in...

Exclusive: All the Streets Are Silent, a documentary portrait of the skateboarding and hip-hop scenes in New York in the late 1980s and early ’90s, has been acquired by Greenwich Entertainment.
The U.S. rights deal precedes the film’s world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June. The film will be released in theaters on July 23.
Jeremy Elkin is making his feature directing debut with All the Streets Are Silent, which is described as “a love letter to New York” blending elements of Paris Is Burning and Larry Clark’s Kids.
Between the city’s rebound from near-ruin in the 1970s and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Lower Manhattan was home to the thriving subcultures of skateboarding and hip-hop. Their convergence would give rise to modern street style. Eli Gesner, founder of skateboard gear and fashion brand Zoo York, will narrate the film. Hip-hop producer Large Professor, known...

The Bay Area-based producer has worked on projects such as Gorillaz’s debut album, Handsome Boy Modeling School (with Prince Paul) and multiple projects with rapper Kool Keith. Pre-credit sequence. Poor Jaclyn is all alone and there's a scary creature in the trees. "You've gotta do what you've gotta do," Natalie tells Jaclyn, who also praises her fellow castaways for their acting and being fake. "I'm loyal to a fault in my life," Missy replies. Natalie and Jaclyn get into a shouting match about who does or doesn't know Jon. Jaclyn is particularly angry, which I guess makes sense. This, of course, is exactly what Natalie wanted, because she wants people to be wary about aligning with Jaclyn. She knows it'll take effort to maintain her ties to Missy and Baylor in the short term. "You've gotta put in work if you want to win this," Natalie says. 3-and-2. It's the morning of Day 36 and Baylor and Missy are talking about their shared dream of being in the Final 3. Baylor's currently still planning on going to the...

The relationships between rappers and presidents have always been tenuous at best. Or at least so we thought. This week, there have been two incidents that have united the worlds of hip-hop and presidential politics in ways that nobody really saw coming. Earlier this week, George W. Bush declared that the moment that Kanye West announced "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a telethon was the lowest point of his presidency. West responded in typical fashion, saying that he related to Bush because they both have been under the same kind scrutiny.

Unless you're a top-shelf superstar with major label clout or a cult band with a fiercely devoted following (and a healthy merchandising business), it can be difficult to get the funds together to record an album. Plenty of artists have turned directly to their fans to solicit donations for production purposes (including high profile campaigns from Public Enemy and Jill Sobule), but few have gone to the lengths that hip-hop outlier Princess Superstar is willing to go to make her next album.

Thanks to Jay-z and Beyoncé repping for Grizzly Bear and hanging out at Coachella to see some Pitchfork-approved acts, indie rock and hip-hop have been having a very public love affair lately. Sometimes it's a late night hook-up that is walk-of-shame worthy in the morning (paging Weezer and Lil Wayne) and other times it's so seamless you wonder why nobody thought of it before. Kid Cudi rolled out the carpe for Ratatat and Mgmt on his studio debut, Ghostface Killah has admitted to loving Vampire Weekend and the Black Keys chopped it up with everyone from Mos Def to RZA and Raekwon on the Blakroc album.
In the most recent example, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon revealed that he spent a couple days earlier this year in Hawaii with Kanye West, laying down some of his patented hushed, pastoral vocals for 10 songs that might appear on West's upcoming CD. That...

This one veers off our normal subject matter a bit, but it's so full of awesome I had to pass it along. Boing Boing's Xeni Jardin alerted me to the recent debut of an animated music video for "Spacious Thoughts," a collaboration between Tom Waits and Kool Keith (no, seriously!) created by the N.A.S.A. (North America/South America) project.
The animation for "Spacious Thoughts" is absolutely wild (see it for yourself after the jump), and BoingBoing spoke to the creators of the video's visual element, the Montreal-based duo Fluorescent Hill.
"The giant Cloud in the chorus was the first thing we came up with," said the duo. "We felt the chorus had to be big, and Waits' voice is just so huge you just have to go with something towering over the rest of the video, and in this case the city....which ended up working out...

Sounds like Wes Anderson might be blasting off in the direction of Planet Quirk. "I'd like to do a movie in space," the director told Access Hollywood reporter (and former EW intern) Dave Greenwald at the premiere of his new movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. "If possible I would like to try to actually shoot some of it on location in space. That’s my preference." Let's go over some pros and cons here. Pro: You know this movie would look super-cool and interesting, like The Life Aquatic times 10. Especially if Anderson got to shoot on location. Con: He would definitely...

Kool Keith has never been synonymous with quality control or consistency, so fans are right to be skeptical of a project whose name essentially promises a completists-only collection of obscurities, glorified demos, and random shit left lying around the studio. The third disc of the Lost Masters Collection (which is packaged with two previously released odds-and-ends discs) benefits from low expectations; it’s profoundly half-assed, but intermittently brilliant all the same. Like his kindred spirit Doom, Keith has become predictable in his unpredictability. Fans know to expect plenty of bizarre non sequiturs, nonstop scatology, and bizarre, bitter riffs on mainstream-rap ...

The All Points West Music Festival was a hot mess in more ways that one, but it was also filled with special musical moments. It was a long weekend, but we came out of the festival feeling wiser now that we know what it takes to survive during an action-packed summer music festival. Between the unforgettable sets and the strange sightings, here are the 10 things that will stick with us.
Coldplay
Even though All Points West was packed with top-shelf talent, more than one of the weekend's largest bands failed to live up to expectations. Coldplay, on the other hand, played with swagger and unquestionable passion. They get a lot of heat for being middle-of-the-road, but when it came to delivering the big rock moment with a healthy dose of spectacle — witness the giant balloons rolling over the crowd during "Yellow" — nobody else came close.

“New York’s a pretty cool place,” lisped Tool’s Maynard Keenan from the All Points West main stage on day two of the mud-logged festival. “But all joking aside. You can’t fuck with Jersey. Unless you want your ass kicked.” Probably true, but fans seemed on good behavior as skies stayed clear, a cooling breeze whipping in from the water, following a rain-drenched first day, which led festival organizers to announce that Friday tickets (even if used) would be honored for Saturday and Sunday (no doubt a bad sign for the promoters).

Early this morning, “Weird Al” Yankovic dropped his latest single and video, a Doors-esque homage to Craigslist called, um, “Craigslist.” It’s not the first time in his career that Yankovic has written a song about a Web site — he had a minor hit in 1999 with “Ebay,” which borrowed its tune from Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way.” It’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination, and the video is especially impressive (Yankovic makes a surprisingly convincing Jim Morrison doppelganger). Yankovic is a self-described “pop satirist,” and making fun of the Internet is sort of his job. But there are plenty of songs out there (many of them excellent) that pay tribute to various stops on the information superhighway. So while you’re doing your morning cyber-cruising, check out this “Odes to Online” playlist.

As a nice change of pace, I am finally reviewing an album without the threat of violent reprisal. This time around there was no James Zahn with a rubber hose looming over me, and no Doctor Raven throwing the CD case at me and running away. Recently on the Fangoria Musick MySpace page, a reader asked why we don’t cover hip-hop and rap. I thought that was a good question -there’s certainly enough gore and violence in rap to make it dark and edifying. Also, there are a few rap acts that I enjoy immensely, but they’re older and not adequate representations of what the genre is currently doing. By and large, modern rap -like country --makes my stomach turn with disgust and contempt. It seems like there really aren’t that many good rappers left, and of those that remain, most focus on materialism. Gone is the lyrical brilliance of N.
