Well Go USA is releasing this direct-to-video survival thriller titled Escape, which is not the most original or interesting title. It's already available on VOD now after premiering last year. After being taken from an island resort by a criminal gang, ten young women hatch an escape plan through the deset as they fight for survival against their ruthless kidnappers. They're caught off-guard when some of the women break free and fight back. his trash action thriller film stars Sarah Alexandra Marks, Sophie Rankin, Sean Cronin, Angela Dixon, Glenn Salvage, Jon-Paul Gates, Ksenia Islamova, Megan Lockhurst, and Tiffany Hannam-Daniels. "I really wanted the film to be a total blast and an epic journey... It's outlandish and larger than life. The action & violence are visceral and the landscapes striking. When the women fight back, they fight back hard," the director explains. This really looks as terrible as any movie can - avoid at all costs.

Ahead of FrightFest’s UK premiere of The Ledge at the Glasgow Film Festival, director Howard Ford talks about how he nearly lost his life to a mountain fall, reviving The Dead and playing ‘Russian Roulette’.
Your latest film, The Ledge, is receiving its UK premiere at FrightFest Glasgow 2022. Excited, nervous?
Well it’s always an exciting time with FrightFest and I do love the big screen with a crowd as that’s why I got into making films in the first place. With ‘The Ledge’ I have tried to frame it to work well as cinema in its traditional manner as I wanted the shots and mountain scenery to breathe. So it’ll be exciting to share that immersive experience.
The Ledge has been described as a “suspense-filled, deadly cat and mouse game thriller set on a mountain”. Happy with that?
I’m more than happy with the description.

Ahead of the UK digital release of his latest film The Lockdown Hauntings on May 3rd, director & writer Howard J Ford talks about being a one-man crew, casting Tony Todd, his do-it-yourself SFX kit and losing his uncle to the pandemic.
You shot The Lockdown Huntings during the UK’s first lockdown. Was the Covid-19 outbreak the inspiration? If so, why a ghost story?
It absolutely was. I am a believer in using what you have as an indie film-maker and I had a global pandemic! There was a sudden influx of fear, isolation and anxiety. I wondered, could I do anything cinematic with that? I then heard that the virus is not even alive, yet this not-living thing was out there taking lives and not only that, it was Invisible! None of us knew how close this deadly thing was to them… I wondered, could I weave that into a plot,...

Mankind found a way to overpower its Gods in Tom Paton’s throwback sci-fi horror Black Site. After discovering that Elder Gods were in-hiding and draining our planet of its most precious resource (people) for millennia, humanity found ancient incantations to bind them and ultimately deport them back from whence they came with no chance of return. It’s the type of knowledge that could disenfranchise the masses with proof of our “creators” being nothing more than a malignant species from far away that craves our souls as food. So those in the know reinforce the lie by building so-called “black sites” with the off-grid capability of facilitating the incarceration and expulsion of these nightmare fuel Lovecraftian monsters. And right now one is preparing to do exactly that.
One man’s enemy is another’s salvation, though. If enough people see Elder Gods as their makers, they’ll surely sacrifice themselves if asked.

One of this year’s Frightfest World Premieres, Black Site had people excited with only its description promising John Carpenter-esque action… Which is all I needed to hear to give it a watch. In truth, despite despite this playing at Frighfest, it’s not really a horror movie. The sci-fi elements more than make it worthy of being shown at one of the World’s leading genre festivals though.

With the highly anticipated folk horror Dogged currently doing a tour of the festival circuits, I had the opportunity to talk with actresses Nadia Lamin about developing the character Sparrow and her experiences making the film.
How did you get involved in the film Dogged?
My agent Jo Southwell, Aston Management. She put me up for the part of Sparrow and told me about the project. I read the script and I thought it was brilliant. It is one of those scripts that I read from front to back in less than an hour. I just read it all. Normally it takes me a long time to read stuff, so I knew that I really liked this. I love the character Sparrow so I went to the audition and that evening I got told that I had the part.
So, you instantly from the script had a sense that it could be a good film.

Action thriller Never Let Go is now available on demand so we sat down with actress Angela Dixon to discuss her role in the film.
How did you first get into acting?
It all began at a very young age. I had always wanted to be an actor growing up but I didn’t really think that it could be more than a dream. Then, at the age of 16, I played the part of Barbara Allen in ‘Dark of the Moon’ at college and it appeared that I had some talent. At that point it started to become a reality for me. I studied drama at college, University and finally I went to drama school. So all in all I studied drama and acting for 6 years. Although the real learning starts when you are actually on the job.

Angela Dixon in Never Let Go
What would you do if your child was kidnapped? How far would you go to get them back? Never Let Go, the new film from The Dead director Howard J Ford, sees a Us single mother visiting Morocco go all out to pursue the people who snatched her baby. It's a visceral film with some stunning stunt work and a great central performance by Angela Dixon. We caught up with her to ask what originally attracted her to the part.
"It was a great opportunity to play a complex strong woman in a role that historically would have been written for a man," she says. "This film would have passed the Bechdel test with flying colours. For those people that aren’t familiar with it, the Bechdel test asks if a work of fiction features at least two [named] women who talk to each other about something other than a.

A number of years ago, before "The Walking Dead" was a huge thing and zombies were just coming to the forefront of popular culture, the Ford Brothers released a movie that brought something new to a, then already tired, genre. The Dead (review) was a success which the directors followed up with a sequel and now Howard Ford is stepping out with his own project Never Let Go.
Starring Angela Dixon, it's the story of a single mother who takes the law into her own hands when her child is kidnapped. It looks and sounds a little like a mix between Taken and one of the Bourne movies, complete with exotic setting and the suggestion of political intrigue, and that's perfectly great [Continued ...]...

Dana Carvey returned to the SNL stage last night with heaping portions of nostalgia (Wayne’s World!) and a mixed bag of skits that ranged from pretty darn funny (Church Lady railing against the Kardashians, fawning over a certain floppy-haired pop star) to downright disastrous (an opening monologue/musical number I thought would never end). Carvey also pulled off a brilliant Regis Philbin impression that was dragged down by Nasim Pedrad’s utterly off-the-mark Kelly Ripa. Oh, and best supporting player? Justin Bieber! No, seriously. (In a possibly Bieber-related phenomenon, NBC reports that last night’s SNL was its second-highest...

These films both look like they could be worthwhile (h/t Urban Cineaste for the tips)…
The first film is called Hard Shoulder, and is described as… “A psych thriller journey into the despair of one man, striving for the forgiveness of his family for allowing his neglect to permeate and destroy those things he should hold dear.”
It stars Wil Johnson, Jamie Foreman, Jill Greenacre, and Angela Dixon.
Will Johnson, a name and face I’m not immediately familiar with, stars in one of the UKs top rated crime series, titled, Waking the Dead, which airs on BBC.
He also stars in the second film called Disoriented Generation, billed as a UK-Nollywood production, described as “an enthralling new comedy/drama which follows the fortunes and misfortunes of Ishmael as he tries to keep his life on the emotional roller coaster we call love…” The film’s site says it...

God, who's Not afraid of Carnies. Small hands. Anyway, the first trailer for Nicholas David Lean's UK shocker Hard Shoulder has leaked online and between the premise and some great looking photography it's looking very impressive indeed.
Synopsis:
When a work-obsessed man reluctantly agrees to a weekend away with his disgruntled wife and disruptive children, a leisurely trip to the country becomes a fight for survival as a convoy of old-world carnival-type travellers force the family off the road, and then seem to engage them in a series of terrifying mind games in an abandoned roadside diner.
The film stars Wil Johnson, Jamie Foreman, Jill Greenacre and Angela Dixon.
Not 100 per cent sure on a release date, but we'll be sure to let you know.
Check out the trailer after the break.
Embedded video stripped, see full HTML version.
