- Son of Kam Fong, the actor who portrayed the original Chin Ho Kelly on the original 1968 version of Hawaii Five-O (1968), a role now portrayed by Daniel Dae Kim on the 2010 version of Hawaii Five-0 (2010). Kam Fong's given name at birth was Kam Tong Chun, which is why Dennis Chun's last name is Chun, and not Fong.
- Chun made three guest appearances, as three different minor characters, on the original Hawaii Five-O (1968). He also made occasional guest appearances on the new Hawaii Five-0 (2010), from 2010 to 2012, all in the character of Sgt. Duke Lukela, later graduating to semi-regular (recurring character), also portraying Duke Lukela, beginning in 2013. In the original series, the character of Sgt. Duke Lukela was portrayed by Herman Wedemeyer. Wedemeyer, much like Chun, appeared occasionally in the early years of the series, as the uniform officer at the scene of the crime, or doing crowd/traffic control, later graduating to become a plainclothes detective team member, and a regular cast member, in the later years of the original series.
- In addition to making appearances in both series incarnation of Hawaii Five-O/Five-0, Dennis Chun also made appearances in both series incarnations of Magnum, P.I. (1980) (in one episode, as a one time character); and Magnum P.I. (2018) (in two different episodes, as his regular/recurring character from Hawaii Five-0 (2010), Sgt. Duke Lukela, confirming that the second incarnations of both series are considered to exist in the same television "universe").
