“The Afterparty” has placed all sorts of lenses on its murder mystery wedding romp in Season 2: the generic conventions of rom-com and film noir, specific directorial styles like Alfred Hitchcock’s and Wes Anderson’s, and even whole modes of filmmaking as in Feng’s (Ken Jeong) found-footage episode peppered with vertical iPhone videos ready for TikTok.
The sheer number of different visual styles the show needs is a challenge, but so is creating a “normal” look for the present-day interrogation scenes with Danner (Tiffany Haddish), Aniq (Sam Richardson), and Zoë (Zoe Chao). Working out the feeling of that grounding “home base” look was as challenging as crafting the show’s most extreme visual styles, and in both cases required cinematographer Ross Riege to do a lot of calibrating in order to get it right — and then keep it straight.

Joker Dp Lawrence Sher has been named president of the jury for this year’s FilmLight Color Awards, which are open to TV and movie colorists.
The jury also includes cinematographers Greig Fraser, an Oscar winner for Dune who also lensed the upcoming sequel; Natasha Braier, whose credits include Honey Boy; and American Society of Cinematographers past presidents Michael Goi and Stephen Lighthill.
“I’m very excited to be president of the FilmLight Color Awards [jury],” said Sher, who earned an Oscar nom for Joker, and whose work includes Godzilla: King of the Monsters, War Dogs, The Hangover, Garden State and the upcoming Joker sequel. “I believe the color tools we have today are perhaps — along with the digital sensor — the most transformative change in filmmaking in the last 50 years. My relationship and collaboration with my colorists is as important as any relationship I have with my camera, grip and lighting teams.

Kochi, Dec 23 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer David Hussey thinks the 2016 Ipl winners Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) have probably overpaid for the services of England batter Harry Brook in the ongoing 2023 Ipl Mini Player Auction.
Brook made his England T20I debut against West Indies this year. In 17 innings, he has averaged 26.57 at a strike rate of 137.77 and was a part of England’s T20 World Cup-winning team in Australia. Recently, he was named Player of the Series in England’s 3-0 Test series triumph in Pakistan for scoring three centuries on tour.
He had entered the Ipl 2023 mini-auction at a base price of Inr 1.5 crore and Royal Challengers Bangalore along with Rajasthan Royals initially began the bidding war for him. Sunrisers Hyderabad joined the frenzied bidding and eventually got to sign Brook for Inr 13.25 crore. This will be Brook’s first appearance in the Ipl through the 2023 season.

Melbourne, Sep 4 (Ians) Days after taking in New Zealand pace bowler Trent Boult in the Big Bash League (Bbl) Player Draft, the Melbourne Stars have signed a new two-year deal with Adam Zampa, which will see the Australia team leg-spinner remain with the club until the end of Bbl-14.
Zampa has been a key figure for the Stars since moving to the club from the Adelaide Strikers in Bbl-5. During his time with the Stars, Zampa has taken 82 wickets and established himself as one of the premier white-ball spinners in the world.
In the 2021 Icc T20 World Cup in the UAE, the spinner was named in the team of the tournament and was recently named as part of Australia’s squad for this year’s T20 World Cup. Australia will look to defend their title at home.
Melbourne Stars general manager Blair Crouch said Zampa was a crucial signing for the club.

IndieWire reached out to this year’s nominees for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour), and Limited Series or Movie, and asked them which cameras and lenses they used — but even more important: Why were these these the right tools to create the look of their series? The nominees answers are aggregated below:
Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour)
“The End of the F***ing World”
Nominated Episode: Episode 2
Format: 4.5K Pro-Res 4444 Xq 16:9 crop
Camera: Arri Alexa Lf
Lens: Zeiss Supreme Primes. 99% of the show was on 35mm, 50mm, 65mm. Zeiss Cpz Zooms.
Benedict Spence: From the beginning, director Lucy Forbes and I wanted the show to have an honest, minimalist, but very filmic aesthetic. Season 1, shot on Red, had a strong look but we wanted to push it further. We wanted a mixture of the starkness of the original graphic novel,...

My friend Cynthia Moody, who has died aged 89, was a film-maker and editor by profession and devoted her retirement to documenting, safeguarding and promoting the work of the sculptor Ronald Moody, her uncle. Ronald's Johanaan, carved in elm in 1936, has frequently been on display since its acquisition by the Tate in 1992. His high standing as a sculptor owes much to Cynthia's astute judgment and persistent diplomacy.
Cynthia was born in London. Her mother, Ruby, was Welsh. Her father, Charles, was born in Jamaica and then became a dentist in Britain. Harold, her eldest uncle, was the founder of the League of Coloured Peoples.
Cynthia spent part of her childhood in Jamaica, returning to Britain aged 13. After secondary school, and a brief spell in the Women's Royal Naval Service, she worked for the Shell Film Unit, receiving a thorough training in all aspects of film. She became a respected director and editor,...

Britain's Prince Charles has failed to impress with his cricket skills in Australia. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited Melbourne Cricket ground as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour to put their talents to the test, but one schoolgirl was left disappointed at Charles' attempt to bowl. Bella Geitzmann, who was practising the sport during the royal visit, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: 'Well he didn't bowl, he was just, like, threw it pretty far from the wicket.' However, Australian international batsman David Hussey was easier to please, describing the prince as a 'very nice man, very welcoming and easy to speak to'. Their trip to the stadium was followed by a visit to a historic winery...
