- Kirsten's parents are both Scottish (from Dundee & Glasgow) and she has dual citizenship between the UK and Canada. Although she was born in Canada, she grew up in many different countries across the world. She lived in London for many years and considers it her home. She speaks with a British accent.
Kirsten began her career as an actor in a Signal toothpaste commercial in Cairo, Egypt (aged 11).
Kirsten trained at the prestigious London drama school Central School Of Speech & Drama, whose alumni include Judi Dench, Julie Christie, Christopher Eccleston, Gael Garcia Bernal, Jennifer Saunders, Carrie Fisher, Laurence Olivier etc.

- She is the niece of renowned footballer Jimmy Gabriel (1940-2021). Jimmy Gabriel was a Scottish international defensive midfielder who enjoyed a long career both as a player and coach in Britain and America. He played football for Dundee United, Everton, Southampton, Bournemouth, and Brentford before moving to America in 1974 as a player/coach with Seattle Sounders in the North American Soccer League. He was traded to Everton from Dundee United in 1960 making Jimmy the most expensive player to leave Scotland and, at the time, the most expensive international trade ever.
