Studio Ghibli’s first ever television series, Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter, dropped on Amazon Prime in January of this year. The studio is known worldwide for its beautifully animated stories of friendship, family and regard for the natural world, but pacing issues and mishandled digital rendering mean that Ronja fails to live up to the high expectations that come with the Ghibli name.
Directed by Gorō Miyazaki, the son of Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki, the 26-episode series is based on a book of the same name by Pippi Longstocking creator Astrid Lindgren. Ronja (Teresa Gallagher) is the daughter of Lovis (Morwenna Banks) and Mattis (Rufus Hound), chief of a robber clan occupying a fort deep in the Scandinavian forest. Venturing alone into the forest, Ronja meets Birk (Kelly Adams), son of a rival clan chief. As the two learn to navigate their dangerous forest home, they slowly develop a...

While live-blogging the Oscars you really don't get too much of a chance to take in all the acceptance speeches. I catch a few moments here and there, and I can pretty much tell when the air is being let out of the room as well as those moments where someone is really capturing the moment. What I've put together below are the five speeches where I think the winner really managed to stand-out. I also love the true excitement coupled with the words chosen in these speeches. Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave, especially, seemed to capture the room with her infectious smile as much as Jennifer Lawrence a year before, not to forget her brother, Peter, who photobombed Ellen's Twitter-breaking selfie and is clearly someone very special in Lupita's life and she in his. The only truly strange thing about these speeches is John Ridley and Steve McQueen failing...

Yes! Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey for her guidance. And for Solomon, thank you for telling her story and your own. Steve McQueen, you charge everything you fashion with a breath of your own spirit. Thank you so much for putting me in this position. This has been the joy of my life. BBC Three army comedy Bluestone 42 has been picked up for a second series, it has been confirmed.
The Richard Hurst (Secret Diary Of A Call Girl) and James Cary (Miranda) show about a bomb disposal unit in Afghanistan has pulled in strong ratings for the broadcaster, and BBC Three boss Zai Bennett has ordered a new run of episodes.
"I'm incredibly proud of this bold, brave and hugely funny comedy drama series which has been enjoying big audiences on BBC Three," said Bennett.
"The cast, crew and writers have played an absolute blinder in this important series which completes and complements BBC Three's already extensive coverage of the war in Afghanistan."
Mark Freeland, head of BBC in-house comedy, said: "In-house comedy is at its best when we try extraordinary and slightly scary things. I believe Bluestone 42 is both.

The creators of new BBC Three comedy Bluestone 42 have defended the show from criticism that it may be offensive to serving troops.
Written by James Cary and Richard Hurst, Bluestone 42 is a comedy about a British bomb disposal detachment serving in Afghanistan.
The show launches in March and stars Oliver Chris (Green Wing), Kelly Adams (Hustle), Gary Carr (Death in Paradise) Stephen Wight (The Paradise) and Katie Lyons (Boy A).
Exec producer Stephen McCrum said that from the very beginning it was vital the comedy "got the spirit" of the army absolutely right.
"The one thing that came across with our early research was that it was really important to these people that we treated this world with respect," said McCrum.
"They take their professional lives very seriously. We made absolutely clear that these people are engaging in a serious and dangerous job and are doing it with great professionalism.

We are about to embark on what will hopefully be a rather fun summer of movies. With that in mind I focused the second installment of Streaming for Pleasure on some films you should see before this summer hits. Having a familiarity with an actor or director’s career can often shine some light on what their future projects may have in store. Also it can help garner more motivation to see a film you would have otherwise avoided. Curious what the Avengers might be like? What Tom Hardy has in store for the character of Bain? Well check out some of these films and they just might answer some of your questions.

“Hustle” has been running since 2004 on the BBC and this marks the eighth series since its inception by creator Tony Jordan although he has said that this will be the last series, at least in its current form and with its existing cast.
The series stars The Man From U.N.C.L.E’s Robert Vaughn plus Robert Glenister, Adrian Lester, Kelly Adams and Matt Di Angelo.

Every now and again we get high on a British film that’s so full of life and eccentricity that you can’t help but fall in love with it, and slowly become addicted. Our next dose of this metaphorical drug is Bronson.
Definitely one for the niche film fans, this is as odd as a rabbit playing pool whilst roller skating. It’s quirky, dark, brutal and brilliant. It has that raw edge that makes British cinema stand out from the clean cut world of Hollywood. It’s not pretty and perfect. It’s not modified or brightened. It’s natural, hard and mean.

Originally titled “Beacon 77”, low budget British science fiction conspiracy thriller “The Seventh Dimension” is an imaginative affair written and directed by Brad Watson. The film is certainly ambitious, attempting to tackle grand themes of science, technology, religion and the supernatural, despite for the most part only taking place in a small, nondescript flat. Having enjoyed a successful run at genre festivals, the film now arrives on region 2 DVD via Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment, coming with a making of documentary. Set in London, the film begins as a young woman called Sarah (Kelly Adams, who recently appeared in Nicolas Winding Refn’s awesome “Bronson”) accompanies her friend Zoe (British television actress Lucy Evans) on a mission to declare her love for her tutor Malcolm (David Horton) at his flat. They are somewhat surprised to find his living room filled with computers, which he and his fellow hackers, the disabled Declan and the...

Predators (15)
(Nimród Antal, 2010, Us) Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo. 107 mins.
Twenty-three years and three sequels after the original, the sub-Alien sci-fi movie at last gets a proper follow-up, and even if Brody barely has the bulk to fill one of Schwarzenegger's combat boots, this serves up the semi-guilty action pleasures you'd demand. Brody is one of a gang of random human badasses who wind up in a strange jungle and realise they're now training material for apprentice alien badasses. So who will survive to be the, er, worst ass?
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (12A)
(David Slade, 2010, Us) Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner. 124 mins.
Another teen-conquering exercise in sexless erotica, but at least there's an actual film around it this time. A new vampire threat and Bella's love triangle won't be enough to entice newcomers, but fans will enjoy the unconsummated fantasy thrills they crave.

This British attempt to do a Da Vinci Code-style conspiracy thriller is silly and suspense-free, says Peter Bradshaw
There's no earthly reason why British film-makers shouldn't turn out material in the supernatural thriller genre to rival Hollywood product. But this just isn't it: a silly, relentlessly unscary, and frankly awful film. Kelly Adams and Lucy Evans play students Sarah and Zoe; Zoe is having an affair with her lecturer, and impulsively takes Sarah on a visit to his flat. This, bizarrely, turns out to be the computer-hacking headquarters of a shadowy group led by a wheelchair-using motormouth Declan (Jonathan Rhodes), who is attempting to crack a Dan-Brownish cyberconspiracy involving the Vatican, the Pentagon and who knows what other sinister group, centring on the Bible Code. Ghosts pop up out of nowhere. People are always shouting things like: "Oh my God they're on to us!" while hammering away at their computer keyboards.
